I'm currently rebuilding a 390 FE for a 1971 F100, my first total restore I'm tackling. Thank you for this complete teardown, it's a lot of things I've learned during my teardown process as well - especially just throwing out all the old, hard rubber! I'd love to see a video that looks at some older engine blocks and determines if they're still good/usable or not. I haven't really been able to determine what can stop a block from being used - other than obvious cracks.
On the subject of wiring...I would love to see you put a Painless Wiring kit into something like this. My 79 Firebird has factory wiring and it needs to all go away but such massive electrical work scares the crap out of me. I would love to see how you do it in your typical, point by point, long form videos.
@@SOLDOZER I’ve had the car since I was 15 (I turn 46 this month) so the wiring hasn’t been butchered like a lot of cars. My main problem is its old and brittle and in places the insulation is just falling off.
@@madrabbit9007 I just bought an 84 C10. The AC was trash and dont need any of the emissions garbage. After removing it all there was not much left. Other than the headlights there was only like 4 wires.
I was trying to find the part where you did the tq converter bolts, it may have been brief, but I missed it! But other than that, this was a great refresher. I’m about to pull my 300 6 cylinder from my 82 f-100 which is essentially the same exact process as here. Thanks! I figured out the tq converter nuts myself pretty easily!
Great video man, I am currently attempting to remove a seized engine from a 1982 bronco. How do I remove the bolts from the flywheel if my engine is seized?
I was in your shoes many moons ago. The work can be long, hard and frustrating but there’s no better feeling than driving a vehicle you fixed yourself and saved big money doing so.
I’m self taught and rely on videos like this for guidance. Any advice for someone like me with zero experience? I know to take my time, but is there anything else I should know or be aware of? Thank you
Hey quick question. I was wondering what model number and brand is that impact gun? i was going to get air tools; but, this seems like a good option here. Also, where did you get the sockets? so, exact impact gun model and socket recommendations, pretty please. Thanks so much, you are doing great work! I am super motivated!
Looks like a DEWALT 20V MAX XR. Phenomenal battery powered impact gun. I almost bought one, but went with the Milwaukee brand because of all the batteries I have are from Milwaukee.
Thank you Ryan! So detailed and through. I will be pulling a Ford 460 BB out of my 67 Mustang gt. It is shoe horned in, no room and not much to disconnect. It is paired to a C-6. I want to swap in a 351W stroker motor (408). Should I pull the C-6 with the Engine, seeing that I probably will have to use a different bell housing? Or just pull the C-6 out sepatately? Thanks for sharing. Appreciate all your time and effort in making this great video. Cheers from Motown.
Awesome! Thanks so much for watching! I'm a fan of taking the transmission out first, just because it is easy to lose control with all that weight and harm yourself or you car. Hope that helps!
@@2carpros Hey Ryan, agree. the 460 is 750lbs alone. Will disconnect trans from engine and then tend to the trans. Hey! and all that with Jack Stands!!!! lol (but I am used to it now.) Cheers from Motown and Thanks for your speedy reply sir.
So I'm assuming its a manual 3 speed and those you don't have a torque converter to unbolt. Typically you just have to unbolt the manual transmission. To remove the engine. Sometimes you have to take the line off the throwout bearing but sometimes it's just a fork and it's super easy. Thanks for watching!

if your rad hose gets stuck like his and you had to make a hole, cant you just drill a hole in it and wait for all the coolant to leak out and then fully cut it? 😂

On a vehice that old a lot of the wiring is garbage and for emissions. You can just cut it out.

Hey I’m at the part where I took the starter off but my torque converter isn’t spinning 😬 what should I do? Any help would be much appreciated!
Wait i think im looking at the wrong thing…
So if i also wanted to change torque converter, does it just slide out after engine is removed?
Yes, but it is much easier to drop the transmission if you are just doing a torque converter. Thanks for watching!
What bout removing from a 3 speed on column . Do you still remove flywheel bolts

Do you need to put vehicle in neutral first if moving it after pulling engine?
Yeah just keep it all in neutral at all time and use wheel chalks. Thanks for watching!

You would just have to disassemble more of the engine while it is still in the car or truck to free up your stuck pistons.
