- "Breaking the SIlence": courageous testimony, or treasonous propaganda?
"Breaking the Silence" is one of the most controversial organizations in Israel. Its members compile testimony from Israeli troops who've served in the Occupied Territories.
Many in Israel consider them traitors: current- and former IDF soldiers who've joined the organization "Breaking the Silence." The group compiles the testimony of troops who've served in the Occupied Territories. Some of these reports contain allegations of misconduct. Nadav Weiman served as a sniper in an elite army unit near the Palestinian city of Nablus. Weiman comes from a military family -- but he's raised serious concerns about the Israeli occupation, and wants the public to discuss these issues. But many Israelis accuse the "Breaking the Silence" group of spreading lies, and damaging Israel's reputation.

Israel must have a very fragile democracy if 'Breaking the Silence' is seen as a threat or in some way undermining the state. May be some people don't like to have their conscience pricked by such matters of morality and International Law.
I read a diary of a boy growing up in a kibbutz in 1949. Stealing from and vandalizing Arab farms was a daily activity for which they were praised. The boy never saw the error of his ways and the people who translated his diary were brimming with pride, not about his treatment of the Arabs, that went totally unnoticed but pride in having a diary from that time that tells of what they consider the success of life in an early kibbutz.

@@caiqueportolira not sure about the book but there was an article in Haaretz back in 2021 about a diary like this by a kibbutz boy in 1940s (before 1948). I quote directly:
"My father and his friends were brought up to be familiar with every inch of land, to bond with it whether in farming or in nature, to believe that it was theirs and not to hesitate to take it at any price. Members of that generation were raised as lords of the land: strong, brave and convinced of their right and of their prowess in charging ahead and in conquest. In addition to physical training, there was a need for psychological preparation that forged confidence and indifference to plunder, and haughtiness in the face of weakness.
The children frequently climb up to Isfiya, the Druze village high on Mount Carmel, bathe in its springs and hang out in its olive groves (“The way is delightful in its beauty. We returned by the Druze trail”). Freely roaming the territory reinforces confidence in controlling it, and with it the sense of entitlement. The youngsters would steal electricity cables from that area, and obtain items for campfires by similar methods (“We made a trap where the chickens and the pigeons of the Arabs wander around”)."

Im an old interceptor pilot from the Israeli air force. It took a while for me to see the madness and pain we inflicted on innocent people. When we used banned chemical weapons and took out a whole block in Hebron for a couple of suspected terrorists I together with other new pilots who also later refuse to fly these missions. There are whole platoons of soldiers joining "Breaking the silence". Im active in both Breaking the silence and now as a commercial pilot Im holding speeches for Pilots for 9 11 truth. I cant stay in Israel for my familys safety so I live in exile from Israel.

The bravery, to tell the truth, is awe inspiring. While the basic issues are simple to understand but difficult to solve. These soldiers are risky much to stand-up for the truth and to seek a just and hopefully amicable solution. Without dialogue, nothing can be resolved for either the Israelis or the Palestinians.

What we are seeing now is beyond words, the terror the horror. I cannot imagine what it must be like for the people trapped in Gaza with no water, no power and running out of food. Why is there even an occupation
I cannot understand why, living in 2018, looking back at the past and the many wars that have ended, why this "war" is still being allowed to go on..the Palestinian people have an equal right in this country just as much as the Israelis people do.
