My 87 year old uncle has a few of these along with the shogun and big bears all new in the boxes along with hundreds of other vintage RC he bought in the 80’s. He let me put together one of each for shelf queens. But only ever got to drive the ninja. I use to race it at a track in se Portland Oregon.
Thank you for sharing your Ninja Luke!! These were impossible to get back in the day here in Australia. Picked up one from the UK to add to my collection. It's a little used but 100% complete and original owned by a collector. Been doing a nostalgia run the last few months with my hero RC's from the 80's with the Tamiya Avante, and 2 Porsche 959's that I've rebuilt/tidied up with full ball bearings throughout. (One 959 is a shelf queen without a mark on it, the other has run but still in excellent condition, body is a little damaged but repaired and looks great). This Ninja that I bought will get the same treatment. Full ball race set, rebuild and I'll run it gently.. Thanks for the tip on the front gearbox bevel gear mount too!! It's a shame that parts for these are near impossible to find. Epic looking 80's buggy!
I have one that I run and one shelf queen. Beautiful buggies. Also have a Shogun too. Marui's RC cars are actually very good and similar quality to Tamiya's
Your crazy!!! I love it!! You are the only guy that dared to take this one out !!! Out of all the other UA-camrs that have a Ninja nobody even ever talked about running it! AMAZING! Thanks!!!!! Really enjoyed that! By the way it looks TOTALLY RAD!!!!!
Hi friend, so I think some of the other rc channels just are afraid if it breaks -they don’t want to fix. Hard parts to source and expensive. They are hunting prime examples. I’m not concerned with a mint rc I actually prefer broken rc cause I can fix them all. Pretty much all my rc were broken or busted. Can’t afford what the other rc channel guys do.😂 honestly I luv all rc channels and I know most of them. I will say it takes time to do the broken ones vs great shape rc’s. Probably why I do 1-2 rc videos per month. Thanks for watching many more videos ahead.✌️
The Ninja was a sexy looking buggy and really was something special to see back in the day and it has to be said she still looks just as beautiful today also! Yours look real sweet mate nice job👍
Hi bud, no shame in using a different brand driver and adapting it. I’ve done a few rc cars on my channel and honestly I totally forgot about the non kit issue figure as I’ve done the exact kit color for them. If I see one on eBay I’ll notify you. Thanks for watching my video
If I remember correctly these buggies need a motor that runs well to a reverse direction, so a motor with an end bell that is then tuned for reverse rotation. That way you could get more speed. Am I right? Did you have to set the power cords from the speed controller ”plus” side to the motors ”minus” cord for the car to run in the right direction?
Hi sir, back in the day you could have a spec motor for racing such as Trinity to have armature and magnetic field befitting it’s timing set ahead or retarded for a max track advantage. Hand wound etc. if you remember Team associated RC10 motor was also in the same position. Most common rc that was issued via Tamiya Kyosho Traxxas came with stock silver can motors -mabuchi and Johnson motors were fixed endbell type. Your wiring wouldn’t change speed just it’s rotation-that would’ve been radio gear settings and possibly esc settings. This car in video ran 18mph and I did get 19mph earlier in video battery was weakened somewhat also it’s 4 wheel drive and heavier with lower gearing. Ex: compared to Tamiya hornet which weighs nearly 8 ounces lighter runs 17mph, And it’s only rear wheel drive via 540 silver can 27t. A ninja in stock form would be around 15mph. This buggy runs 4mph more than stock. If wiring made impact on this car it would be around 15mph or less. Slightly hotter motor fixed end 20t vs 27t. So I hope this gives you your answers. Basically a silver can fix end bell motor likes an equal magnet field. Wiring from motor is neutral. Wiring to is dependent on radio gear settings. I hope this helps and I did not confuse you.Be sure to check out my latest videos and like and subscribe. New video of a completely different rc every month. Happy RCing!🙏
I got this buggy when it came out and loved building it, and loved driving it even more, it comes with a low speed and high speed gear and I put the high speed gear in and it realy flew around with stability like no other, did you use the low speed gear because it looks like it, all it needed was real bearings throughout instead of the nylon bushes but I couldn't never find bearings that tiny but it worked fine nonetheless, I wish I could get another one because it's a realy solid car 😉👍
Hi Freddy, so high speed gear is a pinion gear you can install. Mines 13t but max is 17t as used in my shogun in video it’s basically a twin of ninja. I tested the shogun Speed would jump to 21mph vs 18mph in ninja but acceleration was less also the 4wd rooster tails, and 4wd drifting with stock 540 Silver can motor was less too. 😔. Honestly it’s really just fun no matter the speed really- many people crave 100mph rc with 8s lipos and crashes. I like to see those videos but I’m not one who wants to destroy anything I build especially if it’s vintage. I remember driving a yokomo super dog fighter and Kyosho lazer those were my favorite 4wd runners back in the day but ninjas are nice. Now years later my wltoys will smoke even those and they were the kings back then. Funny how we remember things to be so much faster. Anyhow get another Ninja. Be sure to Check out my other rc videos and new ones come 1-2 month of a completely different rc. Like and subscribe.👋
@@LukesVintageRC thanx for replie Luke, oh ok, it just seemed so slow on the vid but I spose its hard to judge if not seeing with one's own eyes though they are not as fast as today's products and Wltoys do produce brilliant rc cars, my one used to drift pretty good even on cement but I did take good care of it and never abused it as so many ppl do, a huge dog chased my one and jumped on it and bent one of the rear side shafts, I never realized right away and carried on driving it and the bent shaft damaged the socket cup that drives the wheel and the one going into the diff and I couldn't get replacements so that was that, gave it to a friend and dunno what became of it after and im sorry now I did that lol, it's a verry strong car frame wise as everything is made from verry flexible nylon plastic but not unbreakable as far as side shafts and so on are concerned, I know it would have been faster too had it not had all those nylon bushes in the wheels and gearboxes instead of real bearings and would have got more run time out of each charge too, that I cuddnt get either at the time but it's easier these days with internet and so i wish I'd kept it because they are hard to find now, you have done a awesome job at restoring that one and it needed that because It certainly was abused I can see, and yes I have subbed and liked deffo thnx so much ✌, this is a great channel and I'm a huge rc lover from South Africa where this hobby is almost dead sadly, so rc channels like yours are a great help 👍
@@LukesVintageRC I should have said this hobby has become broken like everything els in this sick country, if I wanted to visit a hobby shop these days I'd have to travel far because in my small city there's no such thing as a hobby shop anymore, we even had a awesome track for rc cars here but that too died out in no time, not been racist but since black government took over South Africa everything went down the shitter lol 👀👎
Howdy friend, it’s kinda hard to do a video like that because as everyone knows I have a lot. Over 100. I also have to do a full restore and run video of a car truck boat of some kind every month. Maybe sometime in 2024. Instagram does show an outlay of my collection though. Thanks
Hi bud, so I’m mainly just a UA-cam rc information channel as of now. I’m currently working on a trailer for Luke vintage rc and an Instagram account with my friend who’s a much larger rc channel who’s been feeding me wisdom. If there’s anything I can help please let me know I’d luv to help just ask away here. Thanks and I enjoy your rc channel.✌️
