I didn't notice any surface issues on lunges...tho I was quite slow on them. Rox zone was massive compared to say Manchester and Glasgow. A good minute extra there. Burps were a little slippy but manageable...sleds were great...for once
Can relate to a lot of this, albeit on a slower scale for sure haha - my Hyrox experience to date has always been in mixed doubles. Birmingham was my first solo. My background is in CrossFit and weightlifting style training and I purposefully went in to this having made zero alterations to my training, in fact, I haven’t touched a sled since Hyrox Glasgow last year. This was entirely on purpose as I didn’t want to out myself under any pressure or go chasing any particular result - this one for me was about surviving and just confirming to myself I can do it. Being struck down with a cold for the 2 weeks prior made it all the harder and meant any time ideas I had went out the window anyway - but…. Got it done and got a time in the bag. Now I’ve a few months build up to Manchester and I know what I need to work on to go and set a time that’s more of a reflection on my level of fitness and capability. Great weekend was had overall, raced Friday morning, wall ball judged Friday afternoon and evening, sled push judged Saturday and Sunday. It’s just served to remind me of how much I enjoy this sport and why.
Yep, the ‘refresh’! My most recent experience of trying to book an event was down from 1000+ in the queue down to less than 50…then refresh. Over 6 times on my laptop and 5+ times on my phone where I was also trying. And within 1 second of tickets becoming available. Eventually managed to book but what a system eh? 😮
Ironically I captured this particular queueing reset during the sign up to Manchester... the fact this problem still exists after Birmingham is bad form....but predictable enough to record my screen during the sign up for this video! Since Birmingham I have not been able to get a ticket in conventional ways, neither of the subsequent ballots proved successful either... however I have bought one second hand, got one on a last chance email, and the last one off some dodgey link on an instagram story.
Genuine question here. I quite fancy trying a Hyrox. I'm a competitive runner and do S&C sessions so it'd be a good test and good fun. But genuinely- why are the vast majority of guys topless? People can perform at a high level with a vest or t shirt. It just seems biazzare looking from the outside in that all these guys are doing the event topless for some reason. Is it vanity? It's just not something I'd see in Track Athletics. Or any other sport. Just wondered if there was a reason they all chose to compete in this way?
Mostly..it's because it's hot in the indoor arenas (exhibition halls not athletic facilities) , air circulation is not great you sweat through everything in the first 5 mins. Less is more, you dry quicker without. Sure some do it for vanity, most do it for comfort. I've done both. Ironically the one other sport you see this loads is Spartan Race
Another good, informative video Martin. Interested to hear how you found the surface on the Lunges and the length of the Roxzone at Birmingham

Great effort Matrin, roxzone was massive, we did the pro and also thought the sleds were fine.. throughly enjoyed the event 😅😅

The more videos I watch, the more I think ive bitten off more than I can chew here haha
You got your first coming up?. I don't make it look particularly graceful 😂
@@martin-boyce Manchester this weekend, (which I thought was at the end of the month) and i've been wiped out for covid for the past month haha

How did you get a ticket. It’s impossible!?
@@rkcdavid failed miserably initially but later got one second hand. Nowadays I'd try roxtickets
