Your build series on these is entirely why I started watching your channel, loved them. This rig looks great, love the hard body and the leafs. I'd pull those rear links from the frame to the axel to try it, doesn't seem like they're needed. :)
I got 1 off Ebay from China it took 3 days to show up...and it is awesome I just couldn't justify the tamiya price as I always have wanted 1... I have been running mine 3s with rear diff locked and it is a lot of fun...I rearranged the lettering to make it say Toyota... I have been mud bogging mine it went a bit funny with deep water I'm guessing not fully waterproof (above wheel height)but I quickly disconnected battery and dried it out and is all good now
I had one of these back in the 80's. Sold it probably around 10-12 years later...with regret. I'd love a re-release but just can't justify the cost right now. But this....this might by my ticket back to my childhood.
Great video. I just completed a 2012 rerelease Bruiser to add to my collection. I just received the kit version of this. It will be an outside runner. The new Bruiser will stay inside.
The Tamiya Bruiser here in the UK is £629 GBP which is $807 USD, $1108 AUD and that's without a radio, so I can see how this would appeal. I would be very interested to hear what Tamiya think about it because I would bet that they don't have a licence.
That’s one sweet rig! U know I love building my tamiya kits, I’ve gotta get one of these for sure, I’ve looked at tamiya kit of it n it’s kind of pricey but most of my tamiyas r shelf queens. Still this ones $300 is kind of steep but less then the tamiya for sure
Sorry do over!! Hey man, love watching you geek out. I was right there with u brother, good fun!! Ps. I need to google how to shut off auto correct... yeah just shameful!!!! Thanks 🙏
I must get one! Been looking at these with much interest. As far as it being a direct copy or licensed copy I'd love to know as well. From my understanding of patent laws (very minimal!) is that a patent is only enforceable for around 20 years. After that it's free reign so maybe that's the case here?
Bloody nice. I love drive shafts like the real thing. The axles are metal which is good. Love it. How much did you pay to get that? That time you bought it? Banggood sells it. Get that and modify it. Change motor and shocks for softer ones. That the car that marty mcfly got into? When you said 1985. I remembered that back to the future movie when he was in the garage. Then the scene when he said "Check out that 4 x 4 that is hot. Someday Jennifer, someday, blah blah..."
The freaken defender 1/8th scale is alright. Change motor and diff axles and shafts. Modify it. I shouldn't have sold my RCs i bought in the past. I had a Tamiya King hauler. I got rid of it. Stupid me. I had others. I got rid of.
Not quite the same as the original but extremely close. Still have my original Bruiser I got in 86. Bought it when I had to spend a year in hospital at 18 but I crashed it into someone's bed so couldn't use it. Still in my garage with the original working controller. Gearbox look different but a lot of it is very similar most people wouldn't know in my opinion. Original bumpers were a bit softer as well.
I have a HG-P401 their LandCruiser knock off, and it seems they are ok for the money. Mine needs new bearings in place of the worn bushes on the front wheels and on the input shaft inside the gearbox, 2 tiny plastic bushes worn out. The radio gear was crap on mine so new transmitter/receiver and ESC as the original is 2in1 receiver/ESC. Upped it from 2s to 3s. Most of it is holding up to the rock crawling. By that time you will have forked out $500 Australian without batteries and a good sort of charger. Will need to locktight the control arm nuts. Fit of the allen head bolts to Allen keys is not good. These P407 Toyatos look to be better quality than the P401 Cruiser which are different in every component. I can say the 401 Cruisers plastics are pretty high quality and they can take a good smash or roll over with lexan body. All these models are happy with a 3s brushed system as long as you quickly install bearings where bushes are so as not to wear the shafts, bit more grease on internal gears- box and diffs, locktight nuts but not wheel nuts. Videos on these tune-up/servicing jobs everywhere for other models but most of these crawlers are similar for basic careful and sorted servicing. :-)
I looked into it. I think the axles are standard 5mm, so it is possible to use clamp hexes or even the slotted traxxas hexes. Actually ordered the traxxas hexes and they are already in, still waiting for the car.
All parts are interchangeable or so close its good I have used the body from the HG ro replace the totally stuff Tamiya body and the axles will keep as spares the wheels are diff and NOT interchangeable with the Tamiya Dam shame
$1080 on Tower Hobbies for a Tamiya Bruiser ....WTF? And I still hate the narrow front axle .. hoped Tamiya would have made equal length axles. I believe unlike the OEM body ... the extra cab is removable ? BTW: Great review !... and I cant wait to see the inside of the tranny in your next review....
I couldn't afford one as a kid at $400 ......and I cant afford one as an adult at $1100 (actually I did have one 28 years ago) I don't think Tamiya actually wants to sell any judging by the asking price ... like hoarding gold ?
Eeeh, 300 bucks (US) and 50 bucks shipping, not that "crazy cheap" IMO :/ Must be because I live in norway.. A bunch of the re-releases are the same price or lower here.. Originals are more like 1000 bucks tho lol..
Yeah here in Australia it is expensive for the re-release kits. Then you also need to buy all the other stuff too finish it off. Probably looking around 1k mark

Bingys Backyard How do you lock the Diff?

Yeah this is a good model to use and don't damage your expensive Tamiya
I bought one. I had to...LOL!
Man i want one! That thing looks amazingly like the original! And for the price! You could get two of them! AWESOME
Love the 'TOYATO' you can so easily cut that back into a proper 'TOYOTA'
Not seen a bad review on this rig and I am definitely going to get one, I really like it, great review video Steve again 👍😁👍
Thanks Tony. They seem decent especially considering the price
Great video. I just completed a 2012 rerelease Bruiser to add to my collection. I just received the kit version of this. It will be an outside runner. The new Bruiser will stay inside.
It came with the battery plugged in ? not good. no windshield wipers ?
What about making it fast with brushless
Hey man loved watching you get gout is right there with you brother, good fun!
Thanks 🙏

Can change the tires ? Has hexagonal adapter?
Great review! So you got rid of your 2012 rerelease? And do you still have your mountain rider

Thanks man. The original Bruisers are crazy expensive but definitely fun too build.

Yeah, very interesting. Good point 🤔

I wish I still had the cash flow.

Awesome man. Got to love the original ones tho. Nice that you still have one.
You crashed it into somebody's hospital bed while you were recovering? Haha that sounds like something I would do. Good story

In the day very few could afford one. Is tempting.
Cool man, good lookin truck!
Thanks man
Just got two one rtr the other a kit
Sweet as
It's tamiya old stock when they re-released the bruiser
Nice review. Subbed!
Much appreciated brother
Is the motor 540 or 550?
Some say 540 & others say it’s a 550 motor, in the HG-P407..
540 is in it. I got the same HG P407 but in black.
Thanks for sharing. 😉👌🏼
😊👍Nice! I used to own the tamiya original.
Shen RC Steve it’s a BEAUTY! should build one in one of the buildoffs
Yeah same.
I watched a video of the truck crawling and when it was locked in all 4 wheels wasn't spinning only one on the front and one on the back.
...then the diffs weren't locked properly. Theres a pin you have to drop into both differentials to lock them.
The original was a 3 speed gear box full time 4x4 output and the front hubs were free wheeling just like the real Hilux had
Shutup and take my money. Ordered it.... oh, and subbed. Any idea where i can find A bit more normal and softer off-road tires/wheels for this?
Thanks, it's tricky with the wheels as they have a unique hub design
I looked into it. I think the axles are standard 5mm, so it is possible to use clamp hexes or even the slotted traxxas hexes. Actually ordered the traxxas hexes and they are already in, still waiting for the car.
Love your work!
Much appreciated bro
Wait that actually came with the battery plugged in? o.O
Haha weird ay
All parts are interchangeable or so close its good I have used the body from the HG ro replace the totally stuff Tamiya body and the axles will keep as spares the wheels are diff and NOT interchangeable with the Tamiya Dam shame
Very nice review an unboxing how fast is it
Not sure exactly. Will find out soon
RC Tanks & Trucks 24/7 One thing about Tamiya rc's is they are slow as heck. Lol
"Toyato" avoids licensing.
Thanks for the chinese i can afford the bruiser 😍
This is where the Chinese help us and we help them! I have one and love it!
Tamiya bruiser for less price?
PhilthyCoRC I’ve looked at the tamiya busier for the buildoffs n it’s expensive for sure
@@STEVOD313 yea it's a pretty penny!
The real bruiser is crazy expensive
Now if the Chines can make the Super Pmach I’ll be happy

(actually I did have one 28 years ago)
I don't think Tamiya actually wants to sell any judging by the asking price ... like hoarding gold ?
Chinglish!! Haha never heard that one before, but we've all experienced it. Nice review
Brushless conversion!
Max8? Hehe
I have one because I can't justify the $800 for the Bruiser that's using 30+ year old technology.
Yeah but the Tamiya is heaps better quality. The body on the HG is really good though
Try 3s
I love this
Thanks
