    I think my opinion is
    1st precision bass or jazz bass
    2nd 5 string bass or musicman stingray bass for slap then the 3rd would be fretless bass

    The answer is "just one more..." This is the answer I give my bride when she asks me "how many basses do you need?!?". Just one more baby lol.
    I've been searching for the one bass to rule them all where the answer would be "just this one" but haven't found it yet. For recording I bring a P with flats, a P with rounds, a Stingray and something vintage sounding like a Hofner or a Guild. That'll get ya anywhere ya need to go. For live I roll with a P with flats for warm, vintage tones and a Stingray for rockin tones. That'll get most feels. Building a PJ to see if that'll be a good middle of the road bass. I'd also love to get a HH Stingray for that same reason but the SR is a serious chunk of change!
    At the end of the day, how many basses you need depends on how many tones you want. You can't make Stingray sound like a P or a P sound like a Stingray. If you want both tones available, you'll need both basses. This may be less true for live music but recording, not so much.

    this is really good advice, thank you! also just IMO dumb opinion, a 5 string bass too. Not a super great expensive one, but just in case one of your basses on a gig dies and you need to use a 5 string bass. So you can get use to the bigger neck on a 5 string. Thank you! great video!

      Agree my friend. A 5 string is always handy. Thanks for the support!

    I got the P, Jazz, and Stingray, but I honestly think that I should have upgraded my amp before I got the second bass.

      That’s awesome! If you feel comfortable with the basses you own, upgrade the amp. I still own the same amp I got when I moved to Florida. Its a Markbass CMD JB (Video coming in the future). Its a great amp with tons of options and a great set of features. Give it a check if you could. Also I use to own Gallien-Krueger amps. Love them and a great option.

      @@herobassI just have a Peavy micro bass practice amp, so it is basically just for screwing around in my practice room. I need to get something with 100w or more. Thinking about the Rumble 100v3.

      @@junahn1907 yep, anything above 100w is going to be great for live performances. Make sure it haves a DI out (Most amp these days have one).

    Used to own a stable of basses. Now I own only one, I play it every single day and I really do not want another.
    Yes I do try others in music stores every time I go, but I always put them back on the rack thinking "mine is better, I would never play this one". Something wrong with me?

    • @herobass
      @herobass  3 місяці тому +1

      Nothing wrong with you my friend. For a long time I just had my trusty Stingray Bass. I still do everything with that bass or most of it at least. These days, I just play 2 basses, both are stingray’s. I have been recording some stuff so I need different basses but nothing major that I can’t do with my main basses.
      Basically, I record my music with my stingrays and that would be it. Nothing else needed. But if I was working for other people they might ask for a different tone or something specific and that were the other basses come into play.
      If you happy with just one bass. That’s awesome! Nothing but respect.

    Right now I have a Squire V Jazz Bass (5 string) which is passive. I am thinking about getting a Marcus Miller V7 Jazz Bass which has active pickups!! I know they are both Jazz bass. Should I keep both of them so I have a back up?

    • @herobass
      @herobass  3 роки тому +1

      For my understanding the Marcus Miller V7 can be passive and active which is a nice feature. If you want to have a few different tones, you could get a p bass or something with different pickups. If the goal is to have a good amount of tones, then yes, I would get a different bass.
      On the other hand, if you have any type of attachment to the Squier bass you can keep it. Their is no law or anything that says you’ve to get rid off it. I still have my 1st Bass, it ’s a p bass. I hope that helps. If you have any other questions please let us know. Thanks for the support!

      @@herobass By the way you got a new subscriber to the channel!! Yes it does have some kind of attachment, since it's the first bass I bought with my own money, and I like the tone of it. Like you said, the Sire can be both passive and active. I think I'll let go of the Squire. Thank you!!

    A Fender PJ bass with active/passive switch is all you need then...

    • @herobass
      @herobass  4 роки тому

      That sound like a great idea. I really like it.
      For someone reason when you’re playing with a Jazz bass, that neck pick up doesn’t sound the same a precision pickup. It’s a bit different sound. I also feel the active 2 or 3 Band EQ on a PJ bass would make the bass sound a bit different from the passive sound you get from either a P or a J bass. Other than that, your idea sound great. It could be another option to keep in mind.
      Thanks for the comment and the support!
