  • Guy work crazy hard | Using waterwheels to build factories and sawmills - Ep.163
    The first rain of the season has come to my tent. It's raining so hard that I can't work outside, the banana stalk have dried I will knit a mattress to sleep. Wow! Feeling great.
    The fish are big enough, I will put them in the pond.
    The weather has cleared, I will continue to build the sawmill.
    Have fun watching the video!
    The subtitle as well as the detailed article I will update at the website "primitiveskills.net", the official website of Primitive Skills

      Primitive Skills when are you going to waterproof the waterwheel before it rots. It's very inefficient so a lot of tuning is necessary. Not just putting pig fat on the axel which is a useless act as it will just rot away like your waterwheel is doing.

    • @jimbayler4277
      @jimbayler4277 2 роки тому +1

      @ranting ant: "When will he waterproof" ? : When he feels like it. Not a minute sooner. Not at the demands of a Troll.
      When will you learn that demanding things that are not your place to demand, rarely gets the desired results.

    • @antrants7045
      @antrants7045 2 роки тому +2

      @@jimbayler4277 the bloke has no common sense takes him 3 months to build to let it rot in 18 months?
      Look at the rice basher he was told he needed to preserve the wood and the waterwheel will go the same way.

    • @jimbayler4277
      @jimbayler4277 2 роки тому +1

      Ranting Auntie: So what ?! What if it does rot ? Will the world come to an end ?!
      This is a hobby for him. If he feels it is important enough, he can repair it, or make a new one. He, at that point, could refine it even further.
      The rice pounder wasn't very efficient and became a rejected experiment. Its cycles were too slow.
      You seem to be overly obsessed with the waterwheel and with @P. Skills in general.
      Why ?!

      What I find interesting about this is how a lot of people talk about stuff like this being faked. I mean there are content creators who do fake it, but there are people in the world who live like this daily.

He obviously doesn't actually live in the woods (has to charge cameras and upload somewhere), and he may even cheat a bit (I remember catching a glimpse of a lighter when he was still in the cave), but the point is that this guy works his ASS off and you totally CAN live this way, and many people do.

    Too late now but a tip for future structures and projects. If you char the ends of your support pillars, the ends going in the ground, it will increase how long they last. Build a large fire and place the ends over and burn, or char, them until black all over. This charring is anti fungal and antimicrobial and will extend their life by years!

    • @Plotatothewondercat

      Not everyone needs to replicate primitive technology's tile roofed hut. This guy has moved beyond the realm of individual projects that serve their own purpose and is more involved in projects that build on the accumulation of useful tools and facilities he's already created to do even bigger things. It'd be going backwards to build a hut like that one at this point - even assuming the heating system was at all desirable in the jungles of Vietnam.

Why didn’t your char the posts before putting them in the ground to help prevent them from rotting? And the suggestion is that you dig a drainage ditch around it to avoid water runoff from the higher level ground at the back and sides getting into it. It would be nice to watch a separate video about the whole process with the mattress: collecting leaves, preparing, drying, selecting, and more. From the very beginning to the finished product.

      In a previous video from some time ago he soaked banana leaf stalks in the pond for some time, probably to soften up the fibers, and then let them dry. Not a whole lot to the process.

    You can burn the bottoms of the posts. they last a lot longer. Charcoalize 1/4 -1/2 inch into the wood.
    You are incredible, thank you!

    Unless you are happy to live with the constant white noise from the water course, I suggest a secondary more gentle sloping channel for the water to enter the pond. You could then divert the water to whichever channel you needed at the time - could save your ear drums!

    Have you considered cooking ants near fire and grinding into nutritious powder?
    Another thing I heard that bark contain alot of calcium so ash from bark can be use as base of mortar
