Bob was also bold but his words were different. It’s like a coded language. Your level of comprehension need to be high to understand Bob. I love both Bob and Tosh
A moving and insightful comment on Bob Marley's songwriting skills. Bob had a more abstract style than many reggae artists. A song about a specific experience then becomes something that can be related to in many different situations, by people from many different backgrounds. When I listen new reggae albums, I always fall in love with new riddims and excellent vocals, but the lyrics are often just endless stereotypes and common phrases. This is truly where a good musician and a good conscious artist separate and show their true colours. But don't worry, Jamaica still oozes with talent and spirituality. There will be another inspiring musical leader, and another, and another.
You can tell the profoundness of Bob's impact when you see how even the likkle children would respond to his music. Even today if you play it, it is no different.

It’s interesting that this man mentioned the opinion of the whyte oppressor, and that Bobs music touched them, lol. Fortunately for Bob, he had an African mother that he had no choice but to relate to, as well as poverty and his mothers people . He never experienced the father figure of the Senior Marley, so it seems in later years, in fame and fortune he got better acquainted with the wyte side of his culture and catered to them. We can also see these fruits in his offspring.
I can’t say I necessarily agree with Horsemouth about Bob being popular primarily because he was light skinned. Plenty of black musicians from other genres were universally popular before Bob like James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, Marvin Gay, Chuck Berry, Otis Reading, Louis Armstrong , and on.
I’m not having a go at a living legend but it’s sad how we still can’t stop reducing every single little thing down to race. How is it going to seem worse today than it’s ever been?
Most importantly though doing it takes away from real reason Bob - despite his flaws, which manifest in all men - was who he is: a Rastafari prophet of the Iyest order.
Totally agree with u brother , Bob was real his lyrics was so profound and deep his performance was so powerful and he simply sincerely and truly believed in what he was saying and the world felt and believed him in return bob popularity absolutely got nothing to do with his skin color
Both perspectives can be true. It’s no secret that melanin richness is not preferred in a world ruled by melanin deficient people. This reality does not reduce the importance of Bob’s message.

Did u not watch the whole video? Horsemouth also said bobs lyrics and songwriting is what set him apart and made him reach those bigger audiences. Those artist u mention were superstars out of America but Bob was the first superstar out of a third world country Jamaica which is a whole different feat
