1. No petting on the head Let the husky smell u first to have them know u don’t have any thing harmful cos they can’t see your hand so u should pet them on their cheeks and have them smell u first and get to be comfortable with u 2. Don’t grab their tail They get aggravated and uncomfortable when you grab on their tail cos it’s like someone touching ur rump 3. Don’t sneak up on them while they are sleeping and touch them especially if u don’t know them. You may get bit if you do I love learning and writing notes haha

little tricks: don't shave your husky, double coats don't grow back very well brush or blow out the dead fur BEFORE the bath, or you will have an...interesting tangled mess after
I think it's abusive to shave any dog. If you're not willing to take care of a long-coated dog, don't get one! Their fur is there for a reason. It keeps them warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It also protects their vulnerable skin from sunburn. People are so lazy. And it's the poor dog who pays the price. I recently saw a shaved Komondor and it broke my heart.
Thank you for the tip OP. I usually blow coat after the bath and his fur needs a good brush through. I will try this before next wash. Much appreciated ♥
Rescued an untrained, unsocialized, 1 year old Huskey living in a 4x8 pen next door to me. Couldn't stand the crying and talked them out of the dog. They are good people, just never had a dog before...and what a dog to pick for the first one! I've had many dogs in my life, but never a husky. She has sooo many bad habits, I came looking for help and found your videos. THANK YOU!!! I've only had her for 2 weeks and she is already starting to calm down just from being around people. My other dog, George, a lab mix (and an old boy), plays with her 15 minutes and he's done! I take over, throwing the ball or tug of war. I've watched your videos on (her bad habits) the biting, chewing up socks, bathing and more. I just want to say...GOOD JOB! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Keep up the good work! I thank you so much!
@@garymarshall7559 idk my dog doesnt really mind and can like it. Not always though. Also my dog is quite small but has a pretty strong tail. I'd say most dogs will not like it
I swear my husky is broken. She's extremely docile, loves kids and naps. She rarely talks too aside from when I get home from work. She is relatively low energy for the breed. 😅 Edit: I should have mentioned that I'm her fourth owner, she's five now and I got her at two and a half years old. The previous owners all swore she was too much to manage but that's not a surprise when you lock a dog outside by themselves for days on end with no interaction and forget to feed them too on occasion. I think she's just truly happy to have a home where she's loved every day, given lots of treats and goes for car rides. The car rides were tough at first, I assume because she would just be taken and dumped off at another home. :( She's great in any case but folks really should research the breed to see if it matches their lifestyle. Not a dog to get if you live in an apartment and work 12 hours a day.
That is not unusual for the breed. Some huskies are just more calm. I've had two that are like yours. I've had 8 total. Each has their own personality.
My husky is so weird. He’s extremely energetic around everyone in my family except me. 😹 When I go up to him he just calmly sits on my foot, rubs his body against me, and have me pet him. But around my sister he’s running around and playing. I think it’s because he knows I’m not energetic and won’t run around with him and I don’t like hyper dogs. He also never talks and loves kids as well. but he can sometimes get too excited and knock them over, he loves playing rough.
*Great **dogy.training** lots of helpful instructions and ideas without being dictatorial. I like this writer's style a lot and we have found it more helpful than several of the other books that we got to help train our new puppy because of the detail he goes into.*
Unfortunately that doesn't work on roommates husky mix... She's a complete dog version of a Karen. Mean and hateful and will try to force people to do what she wants buy growling at the menacingly ready to attack.
@@bubbleslovebird4974 I have had 8 Huskies over the past 20 years and they all were rescues except for one who is different and sounds similar to what you describe. We got him at 8 weeks old and was never one who wanted to be petted. He is now 3 years old and will only now come over for attention. He has anxiety about sounds outside of the house that drives him into a frenzy. When you go over to pet him, he growls as you describe but his tail will wag. For some reason, I suspect that it’s his way of expressing acceptance, much like a cat purring. When he has had enough, he will get up and move. Since I know he wasn’t abused since we had him and at age one my husband was overseas for a year, he had consistency since it was only me around him. My other Huskies have had distinct personalities but they are generally friendly with strangers except for my special one. He has learned that he likes rubdowns but it’s taken 3 years to enjoy limited petting. My other 2 current Huskies will vie for my attention. I think my special dog has the equivalent of ADHD, just wired a bit differently. I have found herbal OTC calm aids help him but the dose is 3 chews and I give him one on most days. I don’t want to sedate him but I want to take the edge off his anxiety and it seems to help and it seems to mellow him a bit.
I think there was a hidden fourth lesson about what is a very good thing to do with huskies. Always goof and play with them as though the idea of time has yet be discovered. Maybe they like that more than they dislike the other 3 combined.
Now when you get to know the animal, the base of the tail you can rub and scratch. They can’t reach the itchies back there too well so a scratch or two would be welcome. Also, a good rub (but not too hard) , especially when the animal gets older, helps the joints back there feel better. Again, imagine that animal like yourself, and think how and where you’d want to be touched.
Thank you for timestamp! If anyone is wondering why it's so much longer than it needed to be, is because the youtubers can put ads in the middle of the video when it's over a certain length of time. It used to be ten minutes, (which is probably why this video is one second over that ten minute threshold) but nowadays I believe it's actually seven minutes to meet the midroll ad requirements.
My husky Kira was only like this for about 3-4 yrs of her life then the next 12 she was super calm and helpful. She would - without training - alert my mom of my seizures before they happened. I loved her so much. She was returned to the pound 6 times as a puppy for biting tho and when we adopted her we were told she would be euthanized if she was returned again. She stayed with us for the rest of her life. She stopped biting when she realized we weren't gonna leave her and that we would respect her boundaries while also being firm about certain things. Just lost her about 2 months ago and I miss her so damn much.
A temperamental husky fell into my lap recently and this video was very helpful. My dog seems like he might’ve had a traumatic background, so it’s good to know these three are definitely no-go activities around him if I want him to feel safe.
Same I’m having a hard time he’s not temperamental but he is a puppy only 4 months and he’s extremely untrained non stop peeing and hard hard puppy biting slit my moms finger open. Just being a puppy and it’s absolutely infuriating and exhausting. Only option is keeping him in kennel and outside unless he’s gonna be getting loved on and watched
Cus people buy huskies for their beauty then they assume they'll be great dogs. But then the husky will relentless bark or howl at them our of anxiety or boredom. People in return physically abuse them. Seen it all the time at the local shelter. Run the damn dogs they'll bark a lot less
As someone who's training a service dog, I constantly yoink my dogs tail to make sure he's used to to just in case someone random in public does it for socialization. Its possible to get them used to this, and if you have little kids or are going to be around them, its kind of a good idea to get your dogs used to it, obviously never ever do it to a dog you don't know, just met or isn't yours. Not pull or be mean, but just touch them gently on occasion and praise them for it. Obviously tell the kids not to grab a tail, but kids sometimes either don't listen or "I wonder what happens if I DO" Also, to be clear I don't purposefully make my dog uncomfortable, beyond a quick gentle grab. I do this with his feets and ears and anywhere little hands get grabby, and I started him on this as a puppy, and now he could care less. Some dogs, like my other pupper I rescued years and years ago will never get used to it and always will get pissy (not nip or anything, just grumble), so some dogs don't get used to it. In that case, extra care around strangers is the best thing.
i also have been doing this with my husky since i got him and putting my hands in his bowl while he eats so that when i do have kids he won’t be aggressive if they were to do that because “what if i do” ya know
Same here. He's my ESA to be trained to become my service dog. In 10 days hes learned more than my Chihuahua did in 3mo with a trainer. My husky is actually less energetic. I do pet him in his sleep because as a service dog I cant always control when people touch him. I gently practice stepping on his toes to make sure he doesn't suddenly bite hard. I even practice tripping over him. He's amazingly tolerant. Yesterday I felt awful and did the first day without a walk. He was fine! No extra craziness. Now to go get a dog bath. Lol
Very good points! Dogs still surprise us (humans) every day! Huskies especially! I was walking a husky down a hill (not too steep) when my feet decided to not work together anymore, and, on my way down to the ground, I discovered the dog happened to be in the way. He started growling (a VERY unusual sound!) But realized quickly that this wasn't an intentional act and just braced his legs to give me a stable place to grab. We landed - all unhurt- in a big pile (with the required cloud of loose hair) But stll friends!
I love what you put out so much, when people started adopting our Huskaroni puppies, I had them start to watch your videos. They are saying they love them. Keep up the awesome vids, people out here are listening and learning. I do this to try to keep the pupperonis in their forever homes. Thank you, thank you!
Thank you so much! We try to educate people on the breed and sensibly teach younger children the importance of studying dogs before buying and adopting them! We appreciate you so much!
Congratulations! That's awesome news! Glad you think so! A lot of people have this huge expectations of huskies being exceedingly difficult, and they really aren't. A few quirks here and there, but nothing impossible. SO happy you're finding it easy and pleasing!
My lil husky pup is the weirdest when she sleeps. She'll be in the middle of our living room floor and anytime someone passes her she'll wake up, and roll onto her belly to just lay there staring at you. 😂
Great info but rule # 1 applies to every person that approaches ANY dog for the 1st time. Every time a unknown person comes up to my pet my dog, they get that lesson right off the bat. A dog only sees what’s in front of him and let the dog earn your trust by petting or scratching under his chin. If his tail starts wagging and his ears are straight up, you’ve earned his trust….mission accomplished..!
This is a great video. I love the comic teaching. You must keep these videos coming. I love your kitty. Especially when you're trying giving a doggie treat to the kitty. He was saying, " Hey, dude, you for real? You want my forgiveness, give me bowl of tuna and it's forgotten."
Another tip for new dog owners is when they’re a pup just pull on their ears, grab its tail (both of the actions GENTLY), go straight for the head all the time and just anything that makes them uncomfortable and keep doing it so when they’re older they wont get startled by kids doing it to them.
No, that sounds about as bad of an idea as ignoring the rules that was talked about in the video. What I let any dog do when they are calm, I would let them sniff or lick my hand to get used to me. Then if they are comfortable with it, I pet them on the cheek and then maybe go for the head. I maybe one time either pulled on the dogs tail which is a no no or pull the dog back by the legs which is another no no and a reason I got bit. I even went to the head of a poodle one time and got bit really hard. That's why you don't pull on the tail or the legs.
Beautiful Huskies!!! And great advice, by the way. I live in a long term care home now, just recovering, thank heavens. I love seeing the majestic jesters in such good hands. For years I had a pack of two Samoyeds and two huskies, both male/female pairs. I miss them so much. Thanks for making me smile today. One humble suggestion of what not to do, and I’m sure you know this, but even if the Husky is wide awake, if it’s attention is focused forward, do not sneak up on it from behind. They can spin and pivot faster than you can decide to back up. Even so, I’ve only seen little nips when this happens; however, the glare of disdain you’ll receive can wither you at 10 paces.
I thank you for all your video's. When my husband and I first got our Siberian Husky's ( they are brother/sister) we didn't do our research on the breed. So we learned the hard way! Lol! They are a yr old. And with all their mischievous ways, we absolutely love them to pieces!
Thank you so much for watching! I'm glad you're having a happy life with your two huskies! That's the best to hear! I'm so glad to hear you enjoy the videos! It means the world to us!
dawn marie driver we adopted an 11 month old Husky about 10 weeks ago. She had three previous homes, due to people not knowing what they were getting into. She is an absolute handful! She is very sweet but has a super strong prey drive, and absolutely no manners! It is basically taking five humans to keep up with one dog. We have other dogs, but they are all pretty well trained.
Carole just Carole, I understand exactly what you are saying. But when I said a handful I really mean a handful! They have completely destroyed my living room. Actually my living room is no more. It's now their play room. And I'm serious. The carpet is tore up, they've chewed holes and I mean holes in the walls! They're on their 2nd couch! Most of the damage happened when we 1st got them. 20 days after we got them I had a terrible accident and was in the hospital for 2 months. Then when I finally got to come home I was bed ridden. So my husband having to work and try and take care of me and a real hard time with the puppies too. I have to say they are getting better they are just very energetic! Hang in there and try and just love them. ❤
dawn marie driver oh my goodness you poor thing! Our Akira has to be in her crate if there is no human at home, and she can’t be trusted with our cats. She actually belongs to my daughter who lives next door, but I end up having her a few hours each day. She is very very sweet. Best wishes on a full recovery!
Thanks! My bf has a way of waking me up like I wasn't sleeping and I have to remind him not to do it to the huskies too. He likes your show so he'll listen to you. Yay!
I think all the three points are valuable and applicable with any dog. Don't have a dog at home but I follow these rules with any dogs whenever I encounter them.
I thought all of these were common sense. I’m glad you took initiative to make this, but I’m a little disappointed that kids aren’t being taught this anymore.
I have an autistic 5 year old grandson...he will often grab her tail, flick her ears..all sorts of stuff you wouldnt think the dog would put up with. Evie seems to know the Grandkid is special and he gets away with murder with her. I think i love this aspect of my pup the most
I have an autistic brother, and he is very sensitive around the huskies. They're the same way - curious, but they understand he has boundaries and respects them.
I have a dog that jumps up on every human being alive, EXCEPT for little kids and my two boys that are on the autism spectrum. She just knows about my boys and ADORES little kids. She was abandoned on us a few years ago, and I’ve never been more thankful.
We got a Husky about 3 weeks ago. She's got a lot of progress, from sitting to staying in just 2 days, potty trained her in only 3 days, sometimes she still does it inside but that's our fault for not taking her out every few hours. Now something that I don't like so far, she can be very very stubborn, like she won't listen and will take advantage of you everytime she can, you give her a finger and she will take the whole hand. She won't ever bark, at all. Eventho she thinks that she is independent, howls because she always wants to be next to you. I can see now how huskies are way different from other dogs. !!
Excellent tips! And they shouldn't come as a surprise ! They're kinda common sense - but definitely worth repeating! I learned these from real life, but I UNDERSTOOD why they happened. 1) Hands open - let THEM understand and determine you're safe 2) Let them KNOW what you're doing - They can't see above their head OR right alongside the nose! If I toss something to my buddy, he WILL CATCH IT. But, go to hand him a treat, he will back off and SMELL it! And #3 - NO TAIL play! and NO STARTLING! If somebody comes up behind YOU and suddenly touches YOU, you're going to jump! And besides - everyone has SOMEWHERE they don't want touched! Good advice for ANYONE & EVERYONE! AND ANY BREED! A little EMPATHY goes a long way! THANKS TO YOU and the Pupperonies!!
Great show tx. Fyi, trainers always tell me only to show back of empty open hand. If they bite, you may lose 1 of your 5 senses. They can easily shred all the tips of your fingers, as well as your palm. You go out for milk & comeback home never being able to touch your wife, shoot hoops or shoot pool, et al. If the back of your hand is taken off, no real worries. You will just have to find another striking to utilize. Much love & peace.
AWESOME!! Just please do a ton of research first. You have to have a lot of time and be persistant with them when training. They are full of energy!! Good Luck!!
My 15 month old husky is 70lbs but he’s tall and very muscular from weighted runs/ walks. Super handsome, well behaved distinguished gentleman with the coolest personality 🐺💙 Be prepared to be very involved. Your life will no doubt change permanently, hopefully for the better! Just got out of the military and moved in with my best friend who has a husky and man i gotta say he’s one of the best dogs ive ever seen. My buddy works night shift and is gone about 14 hours a day, so me and the husky have formed a pretty close bond. As i type this comment, Suka the husky is curled up against my legs sound asleep in the guest bed. Definitely makes me want to get my own some day.
Gany Meade I am from the north 😂 they are just very dominant dogs and they are working dogs they are to energetic. They have a lot of needs that need to be met but they are very popular for their striking looks
Tahlia Talks huskies are a lot of work but however they’re NO MORE TEMPERAMENTAL than any other breeds! They demand a lot of grooming and exercise! We have two huskies a 3 yr female and a 7mo old male! We have 1 yr old grandson and they’re both great him!! Please don’t go buy Huskies because they’re cute fluffy pups; they grow up! And you can TRAIN your husky to to be a fabulous dog just like you have to train ANY DOG!
Melissa Gotwalt yeah that’s what I kinda meant they aren’t bad dogs but they need to be trained and a lot of people who aren’t willing to train their dogs or put grooming work into them get huskys
Not in my experience. The thing is they need to RUN RUN RUN... and RUN some more. Not an apartment or small home dog. Most people can’t fulfill their exercise needs. Think of it like owning a wolf who needs to roam and be outdoors.
CSnail18. You didn’t pay attention. He said at the beginning that these should apply to all dogs. Also for the others that said the same thing as you. Gotta listen, folks.
I've been with my rescue husky now for 3 weeks and definitely she's still will not let me near her tail. She has the reaction like your healer just did exactly. I wonder why that is. Maybe it's more sensitive than we understand. I do notice she's very cool about people touching the top of her head. But I still teach people where to pat her, the way you show.
Hey 60F, I just got a husky for my 17 yr old daughter and at first we were about to have a serious MELTDOWN! I’ve had dogs my entire life& it’s not new @ all to me . They are a total different acting breed than most. Well right to it, surfing I found your channel and man YOU SAVED US!!!! Your knowledge helped my daughter and myself gain control and confidence of our “shadow”!!! A million thanks bro!!! And your vids are extremely entertaining!!!
There are more than three things you shouldn't do with Husky or any read it all and these are three of them there are so many more mistakes that people make and his people are abusive and they use their dog is a punching bag and they should never ever have children or pets with all these three go for all breed but again there are so many other things that people just don't realize and they should not ever on pets you hit a dog there's a chemical that goes off in their brain and they can't learn and so their corrected over and over again and it just gets worse so this man is very lucky to have these but these dogs and this these dogs are a gift to this man and he knows it and when you treat your dog well they can do anything and it doesn't matter what breed you had it's like learning a different language it's like having an exchange student and trying to figure out what they want and what they need but this man is wonderful and I wish everyone could be like
I'm pretty far from an ideally cold climate for a Husky, but My Husky is doing alright in North Dakota even though it barely gets below -40C (= -40 F). This week we've been hovering around -40C windchills and she's been enjoying every single walk tremendously. -55 would be better, but there's few places accessible by a car where it gets that low routinely. Since we used to live in much warmer climate (North New Jersey which had pathetic winters by Husky standards) I can definitely confirm her happiness grew exponentially once she was exposed to sub -30C temps. At home I don't really keep it above 55 F (12 C), so she's good and doesn't pant. But once it gets above 60F (15 C) she gets uncomfortable, so that's a threshold temperature. Also, in winter, it's easy to just open the window and let her cool down. Just make sure you have some layers on you as nothing beats the -30 C draft :)
Thank you so much! I was just having fun and I'm glad you weren't offended by it! I typically do impressions of many different cultures on this channel. Voices are something I used to practice when I was younger!
When kids run up asking to pet my husky I always say "no, he can get pretty rambunctious... you won't like it". Haha! It's true! They always try to put their hand over their head when they go to pet him. He'd never let someone he doesn't know touch him that way!
We can’t disturb a husky when it it’s sleeping, but your husky can disturb you when your sleeping.😂😂😂

All three points apply to all dog breeds.
Especially the tail bit, I imagine that is like pulling your spine
and humans also; LOL
@@garymarshall7559 idk my dog doesnt really mind and can like it. Not always though. Also my dog is quite small but has a pretty strong tail. I'd say most dogs will not like it
Also cats- and cats are a lot more skeptical of unfamiliar humans.

I swear my husky is broken. She's extremely docile, loves kids and naps. She rarely talks too aside from when I get home from work. She is relatively low energy for the breed. 😅
Edit: I should have mentioned that I'm her fourth owner, she's five now and I got her at two and a half years old. Not a dog to get if you live in an apartment and work 12 hours a day.
your very lucky my puppy is already going off all day
That is not unusual for the breed. Some huskies are just more calm. I've had two that are like yours. I've had 8 total. Each has their own personality.
Shell Hill yeah i know how huskies can be but i like that he’s hyper
My husky is so weird. He’s extremely energetic around everyone in my family except me. 😹 When I go up to him he just calmly sits on my foot, rubs his body against me, and have me pet him. But around my sister he’s running around and playing. I think it’s because he knows I’m not energetic and won’t run around with him and I don’t like hyper dogs. He also never talks and loves kids as well. but he can sometimes get too excited and knock them over, he loves playing rough.
I feel like that's my husky but he also is energetic times

@@raadraad660 .no...
Lol he thinks 2019 was a tiring year....little does he know!
A LOT of people don;t know how to pet a dog or read their body language==especially kids. When they get bitten, it's ALWAYS the human's fault.
Always dogs fault duhh dog did the biting. Stupid human
The 3 rules (starting @ 5:13) could have been explained in 2 rather than 10 minutes. And btw these apply to all dogs.
So start watching at 5:13 and let others enjoy the whole video... 💡!
The hero we needed.
Thank you for timestamp! If
anyone is wondering why it's so much longer than it needed to be, is because the youtubers can put ads in the middle of the video when it's over a certain length of time.
Three years late but I’m so sorry for your loss
@alexisramsey5434 thank you. Grief doesn't have a time limit. I still miss her dearly

Obviously tell the kids not to grab a tail, but kids sometimes either don't listen or "I wonder what happens if I DO"
Also, to be clear I don't purposefully make my dog uncomfortable, beyond a quick gentle grab.
I Do similar things brother !!!
Absolutely agree!
i also have been doing this with my husky since i got him and putting my hands in his bowl while he eats so that when i do have kids he won’t be aggressive if they were to do that because “what if i do” ya know
We landed - all unhurt- in a big pile (with the required cloud of loose hair)
But stll friends!
what absolutely beautiful and intelligent dogs Huskies are, all dogs amazing ( and cats) but these are amazing.
They kill me. They are intent in listening it’s like they understand every syllable. They never fail to make me smile. Hugs to you guys.💕🥰🐶🐶

Just got my Siberian Husky. She’s 2 years old and it’s been 5 days and it’s going great!
My lil husky pup is the weirdest when she sleeps. She'll be in the middle of our living room floor and anytime someone passes her she'll wake up, and roll onto her belly to just lay there staring at you. 😂
They love for you to scratch their bellies.

Dude they’re so calm and well trained 😍
I had my dog since he was a puppy and now when I pet on top of his head he doesn’t even react badly he just smiles at me 💕
I have an autistic 5 year old grandson...he will often grab her tail, flick her ears..all sorts of stuff you wouldnt think the dog would put up with.
Love your video man! Great work!
1) Hands open - let THEM understand and determine you're safe
2) Let them KNOW what you're doing -
They can't see above their head OR right alongside the nose!
Kitty is so chill, I love him so much
Great show tx.

In my opinion huskys are some of the most temperamental dogs.
Probably because they are made to live in the far north and not south of South Dakota.
Your beautiful dogs make my day. You are a great pet parent ❤️

Mine does not like her tail touched either. I think all dogs tails are sensitive but it seems like Huskys REALLY dont like it.

What is the highest temperature that Huskies can live in comfortably
I'm in upstate NY , during summer I keep my dude in AC out to play for periods,I keep an eye on him, with double coat they can overheat quickly.
@Mike : Upstate NY is fine for a Husky - you guys even get a winter.
