the jaunty rhythm of the windfall theme is emblematic of the joy resulting from justice system in the village that jailed tingle for unspecified reasons
Oh I do hope this isn't just a quick jaunt into the Zelda franchise, but rather a full adventure. The way you make sense of the magic behind these songs is so delightful, I'd just love to see it brought to more Zelda tunes.
This was awesome. I never personally noticed the overlaps between Kakariko and Windfall and now it seems so obvious!
I'm particularly fond of Outset Island's music. It also incorporates Kakariko music, but it seems to use Kokiri Forest as its foundation.
Just recently my house mate was listening to windfall while we were doing chores. As I was humming along I sudden exclaimed in explicitives yelling how windfall echoed Kakoriko and how mad I was that it took me a decade to hear it. I'm glad I wasn't going mad.
I love this ! It's always hard to follow music theory videos when you don't know much about it, because most people sort of assume that if you're watching a music theory video, then you have to already know music theory. But the way you briefly and clearly explain things and how you manage to not break the video's flow with said explanations is just awesome !
I’m not as familiar with the series, but still find this fascinating! The way you illustrate these is absolute fun and improve exponentially with each video. I also appreciated the Sonic cameos!
Once again, this shows why quality will always be better than quantity. Amazing video!
Holy shit. I always knew, even as a kid, that I'd heard the specific arrangement of notes somewhere before from oot kakariko. You mentioning the taps chords are exactly what my child mind all those years ago was thinking about. I've never solved that until now. That is genius. Thank you!
the way you talk about notes and chords and arrangements as little islands or falling to solid ground kind of blew my mind, I was really able to understand the technical side of it all with how you described things
I just found your channel and I am absolutely obsessed. thanks for the effort you put into making these. I love the connection to musical themes and real life or in-game themes like the lighthouse and dire dire docks landing on the 1. I would love to see some ocarina of Time videos. the main theme, Kaepora Gaebora's theme, Zelda's lullaby, and Zora's domain jump out to name a few. the ocarina melodies would also be rad. basically all of it.
PS I Loved the Taps/Kakariko theme tie-in, I don't know how I never realized that.
I absolutely love this song and I never expected you to make a Music Theory video out it!
Amazing video! Keep up the great work!
@@THEGOLDENXGOLEM What do you mean what am I doing here?? I've been watching this channel for a year lol!
Thank you, that really opens my eyes to more music theory and what the composers were thinking.
More of this please (when you have time of course).
Love the time and effort you put into these, always a great time no matter the game
If you’re familiar with/enjoy Undertale, I would highly recommend doing a video or two on that. The soundtrack is phenomenal and I’d love to see someone cover it in as much detail as you would
The fuck... I literally just listened to Windfall Island for the first time in probably 6 years yesterday. Crazy timing and much appreciated!
This really is an underrated channel. You're so good at this, I pray the algorithm finally notices you. Fantastic video.
Windfall Island is easily one of my favorite locations in any game ever, so this analysis was an absolute delight. You do such a good job of spelling it out for people like me who barely know anything about music theory.
I don’t read music but the way you described and illustrated all of the details here was really cool and made sense. Well done and thanks. Also, the visuals were so clever. Pigs!
fantastic video, this music is so masterful
Alex I fucking love your videos.
Fantastic video, as always! I immediately caught the nod to Kakariko Village's theme, but never made the connection to the bugle call-esque melody. Also the technique where the tempo fluctuates is known as rubato. :)
PLEASE do Dragon Roost Island, that's one of my favorite Zelda songs and also happens to be from Windwaker 😭💓
Just discovered that these two songs were so similar, great video explaining it!
You should do a music theory about Dragon Roost Island. O-o
Another fantastic piece on a great track. I'm learning so much from these videos, please keep up the great work!
Your videos are the most accessible I've found yet. For the first time I feel like I might be able to intentionally make music for my projects to get the players to feel something on purpose, lol. Thank you so much!
Jesus christ these videos never stop being good.
I really liked this video and the music, very informative. I didin't play Wind Waker and without your video probably I would take a while to discover this beautiful music wich is inspiring me to study it!!!!
Love your choice of music for both analyses and comparisons! Always right up my alley.
I love these videos and this was very informative - but I'm surprised ANYONE missed Windfall's use of Kakariko's melody.
Zeldas my favorite series, and seeing how well put your sonic videos were. Im glad you did this music justice!
I don't know anything about music theory, but this is a great video.
Maybe I should learn more about it.
Please do kokiri forest -> outset island next.
I believe they are related as well.
Oh and of course we should thank Koji Kondo for these masterpieces.
If you also listen closely, you can hear the main theme for Zelda in the music for, “The Great Sea”
I didn't noticed that! You blew my mind! I DIDN'T NOTICED THAT!
Man this channel is incredible. I love video game music and this is just such a fresh way of listening to it and understanding it.
Can I make a request? Stickerbush symphony or aquatic ambience from Donkey Kong country 2?
Its an untraditional soundtrack to say the least, but I think you should cover the Portal and Portal 2 soundtracks, if it's your style. It's one of the more brilliant examples of setting the environment and tone with the soundtrack that I have seen, it blows me away.
beautiful work, as always. thank you!
I've never played this game or heard the song before, but still enjoyed this videos - your videos are always great!
Kakariko villages theme has always been one of my favorite Zelda tracks it’s original LTTP version and all others but I never made this connection
As always, love the video! The way you visualise music concepts is amazing for giving people a mental image to reference to when applying this stuff.
Always love to see a new video, and this one is superb like the rest
There are so many references 🤯 i aways learn a lot with your videos
03:32 - this melody is used in Green Greens (Kirby), so much so that as soon as the first section played, I recognized it! Surprised it wasn't mentioned here!
I feel like this was their college final exam and then they posted it on UA-cam :D
If I recall, this song is also in Link to the Past. The Kakariko song, I mean.
Always love your content sir. It teaches me more and makes me want to test out these methods in my own stuff. I do believe once you get into Undertale and Deltarune's leitmotifs and composition choices, you'll get the rightful eyes on your content as people have a hankering for that sort of stuff for that series. Those songs are chock full of lore significance but also have huge lessons on transforming character motifs to fit the mood of the story.
Cool commentary. Outset island reincarnates the music from Kokiri Forest as well
Weirdly Kokiri Forest is used twice in the game. Once for Outset Island and another time for Forest Haven.
You guys are seriously geniuses for figuring this out and for explaining it in such a way someone like me who doesn’t know a lick of music theory can understand. Nintendo are geniuses for writing music like this but you guys are just as great for discussing it. I’ve watched this video like 4 times now and keep coming back to it because it’s so good. Please, more stuff like this! Please!
Oh hey, Wind Waker! I didn't expect a video on this game, but I'm here for it. Great video!
What an analysis! It's so neat just how much can be pulled from "just" a bit of music!
By the way, on a lighter note, I think the 8-bit Sonic games could use some love! Sonic 1's different compositions for some of the same areas as its 16-bit counterpart could be neat to take apart, as an example, given that its composer was Yozo Koshiro instead of Masato Nakamura.
Utterly fantastic stuff, as always!
Your skills, flow, editing, knowledge, and comedy has improved in just the short time I've seen you. Congrats man can't wait to see the goldeneye pause music video.
Bomberman hero ost underrated.
Great editing!
Great editing. Keep these up brotha!
These videos are incredible!
I like how you're making videos about more than just Sonic now. There are plenty of games with fantastic soundtracks to explore!
excellent video; as usual! never played the game but today i felt like i learnt something! :D
Wow, great video
god these videos are so good
Great video!
I thought it was common knowledge that windfall was a remix of kakariko village. It's so obvious.
Loving the video editing and insight in the channel. I have to disagree a bit how you see the I7 chord when moving to IV, as the more commonly used term is V7, or dominant seventh chord, which is what is happening in all of these cases. The I7 -> IV movement is just V7/IV -> IV , so it's easier to see the chord as a Dom.7 of the IV.
It did take a few playings of both games for me to realize the themes were one and the same. As someone who holds a BA in music and loves Nintendo games, I enjoy watching these music theory videos on the music I grew up with.
No matter which video game soundtrack it is, you manage to make it so interesting.
Pleasant surprise to see you doing Zelda games
First time I heard this as a kid in 2001... I knew it was Kakariko reincarnated...
This was great, an episode on Wind Waker is a nice surprise. If you were to do another one on this game I'd love one for Dragon Roost Island.
Cool to see you branching out more from the Sonic 3 videos, not that there was anything wrong with those haha.
I await you to do hydrocity from sonic 3
Good video.
There are people who didn't realize that Windfall is a rearranged Kakariko???
I've been figuring out how to play the various Zelda songs on Ocarina and I can't believe I never noticed that Windfall Island is just a slightly altered version of Kakariko. I've been playing these games my entire life, and it took me 20 years to notice....
You know, they say good artists borrow, great artists steal. And Koji Kondo stole from..... Himself
amazing work! I didn't know anything about the relationship between these Zelda songs, it's incredible. In the Wind Waker I always loved the song of Dragon Roosr Island, and I would love to see an analysis, but I don't know if it will have as many interesting things as Windfall Island hahaha
Linebecks theme twilight princess kakariko spirit tracks overworld theme all
Use the start of kakariko surprisingly.
Now do a video about how outset island harkens back to the kokiri forest from ocarina of time
I didn't understand a word about the musical explanation. I don't really understand why the song is good. I just know what I like and I've always loved Kakariko's theme since ALttP first came out. (I didn't play OoT as a kid)
Fantastic analysis of a fantastic song. Also 10:28, Hell yeah! I LOVE Jackson Parodi Check him out people, his covers are accordion covers are always great!
“Younger than young Link”
Heh yea
I7 - IV is also a V7 - I in disguise :-)
4:12 the pig lol
But when they said that the shield was used by the hero himself I think they were referring to minish Cap because the goddess pearls were in minish Cap but they were scrapped so I think the two games were going to be connected somehow
love it!
fire song 🔥🔥
This stuff is fascinating.
.....there really aren't any drums in Kakariko huh. I always felt like it was harder to bop along to and instead you rather let it encompass you gently, neat.
this is epic!!
Wait, people missed the fact that it was Kakariko village music in wind waker? What?!
Yeah, peek around at comments, you'll find plenty of discussion on both sides.
You should make a vid on the great sea or hyrule field in TP
Awesome analysis! I will say however, i wouldn't agree that the kakariko melody is stealth in here... ESPECIALLY after the rising part 🔥the only reason you wouldn't recognize it is if you didn't play OOT😂
@@AlexYardZone what mistake? I fully assumed you played OoT bro 💀 i was saying the only reason 'you' (as in anyone) wouldn't recognize the kakariko melody was if they never played OoT 😂
@megashadow1390 I had played OoT but didn't catch the kakariko melody in WW, as was the case for other commenters.
@@AlexYardZone wow, i find that very unusual, was the opposite for me and everyone i know
New video yay
Great video! Zelda music is consistently bars
You should try to analyze Mother 3's soundtrack, it would be fantastic !
Fine I'll watch it
It was good
please do more zelda.
Rad!
you should do metallic madness from sonic cd
8:45 those red things are looking kinda sus, and the one green one is definitely an imposter among them 😳
Gotta admit, this video pulled a few tears out of my eyes, especially when referencing the "taps" chords that lay deceased veterans to their rest. Didn't expect that out of a video game music theory. Well done!
Same here. Especially after realizing the theming of taps too
