Wintertrekker glad you enjoyed the videos. I've always enjoyed interacting with nature. And when they come to you it's even more rewarding. I can't bring myself to shoot or kill the ones who respond well to the calls. unless I take them right away. Once I befriend/bond with an animal I will not harvest them. I have to move on in search of another one. But my favourite way to hunt is with a camera, then traditional bow, and lastly rifle. If I was lost or having to provide food for family, I would harvest all animals. I'm glad that is not the way it is. Best of luck with your grouse calling adventure, thanks for watching and please video your experiences.
is this the same grouse in all the videos? real neat what you are doing, we call them partridge here in upper michigan. keep the videos coming. what was your total catch on animals this past year?
actually grouse and partridges are 2 completely different birds all together. They are commonly confused for each other. So you aren't alone in your thinking. :)
It's a male and it's was the fall of the year. You can actually call them in. I've done it many times with many different birds. Check out the video where I catch a spruce grouse male with my bare hands.
Hey. Really amazin vid. Can you explain what the sound is that the grouse is making? Ive heard them do this sound when they spot you in the bush, but when they fly in a tree they usually remain silent.? Thanks for any insight.
To be perfectly honest I'm not sure. I use the HMPH calls to locate and start gaining their trust, then I switch to a combo of hmph's and cooing calls. The cooing calls really seem to relax them and it seems to greatly enhance the connection with the grouse, kind of like you talking to a crowd of people and then taking the time to have a more intimate one on one conversation with someone. I had a video that I deleted where I had the grouse really cooing back at me but I allowed someone to use some of my grouse calling videos and they turned around and filed a copyright against my original video... I could have disputed it but I just didn't bother....
@NLGhostWolf And I'm glad that they are. They are delicious! I actually thought of capturing some and raising them for eggs/food. It wouldn't be hard....
That was amazing. I watched all 4 parts, plus the winter one with your bow. I will be looking for grouse to practice those calling skills.
