  • The Dragon is a mountain bike trail about 30 minutes northwest of Grand Rapids, MI. As of summer 2023 it's about 75% complete and it'll be around 50 miles of prime single track when done.
This ride was from Newaygo State Park to Brower Park. It's about 10 miles one way making a nice 20 mile ride out and back. I would say this piece has some of the best flow of all the completed sections so far.

If you’re a MTB’r I’d recommend the Dragon. Fun trail with a little bit of everything. The loop is now complete and I think it’s around 44 miles around the whole thing. 😊

little nervous about going to this place to bike and it is my first time to mountain bike. I watched your video before I go, still got leg cramps on both haha, the climbing up is quite hard for the first timer, I do find mountain biking joyful tho, thanks!

Thanks for showcasing our local trails! Just rode the Brower Loop and Section 5, yesterday. It was great riding in 68 degree weather, in February!

Heck yeah!! Such a great trail. I'm hoping to get up there this coming weekend in the 60'ish degree weather. :)

The Dragon being 2 way seems a little sketch to me. This trail looks very fun. Hopefully one day next season I can find a way to get there.

Honestly visibility is pretty good on most of the trail. I've never had an issue and (most) everyone is aware and cautious. Definitely find time to ride it, it's a super fun trail. 😊

I like to ride fast. Some of those curves look sketchy with a two way

That speed is being careful for two way traffic?

    • @FlyFishtheMitt

Hey none-ya. Visibility is pretty good in most areas but you do have to exercise caution is some spots. I think the camera makes it look faster than I was going. 😂

@@FlyFishtheMitt Okay, thank you for responding . A friend and I are going to ride it at the end of April on bike packing hard tails with rear racks and such. I definitely won't be going that fast and prefer not to get hit. 🙂

@ Are you bike packing just the Dragon or other stuff on the same trip? You'll love that trail, the views and the trail itself are pretty incredible. They did an awesome job building it.

@ we rented a place to stay so are going to ride the dragon one day and route out some gravel for a second day. If you have a single track recommendation suitable for bike packing hard tails I'd appreciate it. Really the only reason I'd be hauling the rack and bags is for training with the extra weight.

@@none-ya2242 Not too far away is Mosquito Creek. I wouldn't call it a bike packing trail as it's only like 10 miles but it's a fun trail. Plenty smooth for a hard tail. Another one to consider is Owisappee near Muskegon. Both trail have plenty of dirt roads around them to add on if you wanted. Last one I'd suggest, that isn't that close depending on where you're coming from, is the Barry Robaix course. It's all dirt roads but marked well at 18, 36, 64 and 100. Hope you have a great time!

I'm visiting my in laws who live about 5 miles from here, is a 140/130 bike overkill for these trails? Nice video!

    • @FlyFishtheMitt

Hey thanks!! It's all machined flow trail...nothing chunky. I ride a FS also and typically "lock out" on the dragon outside of a few fun DHs. Enjoy...fun trial. :)

Very smooth footage. Is that a chect mount? This is some of the most watchable live trail footage I've seen. I don't know if it's because the trail is so dailed or your suspension. Also is this ride on Strava? i'd like to download it so i don't take any wrong turns when I'm out there. Nice hob on this

It's a GoPro11 with the chest mount and max lens mod. Does a nice job!! Thanks for watching!!

    Are there any jump sections?

    • @FlyFishtheMitt
      @FlyFishtheMitt  6 місяців тому

@@JKryanX It’s 99% XC riding with a few good rolling hill pieces on the west side. It’s a designed flow track. There are a few areas that have some built in jumps but I wouldn’t go there if that’s specifically what you’re looking for. Outside of that, it’s an awesome trail.

How long did it take you to do your ride

I think the whole loop was like 3.5 hours. Not too bad. There isn't a lot of climbing. I think the elevation is only like 1800'. :)
