Wow I think I just fell in love with Anita Baker. I heard this song on the radio yesterday and all I can think about is Anita Baker. I keep going on UA-cam to see her videos. She's a sweet heart in her interviews too. Wow what a voice. Her sense of timing is amazing too. I'm a drummer and I listen tho these things.
They used to play this version on KMJM Majic 108 back in the day and all I can say it was a wait to tape off the radio with the button on pause classic! The smile and throwback are for make ya smile purposes..... Peace!
I couldn't have written that any better, of course not to take away from their talents, Anita is just...more soulful, sultry, jazzy, smoother, u name it - and even better live! I loved her @ Radio City Music Hall! I remember everyone jumping up on their feet for each & every song! ~
I noticed that at the end of her phrasing on this song and many others she added a lil sound, "dut," or "uh." Whitney would do it too. I wonder why. Any singers can tell me why?
Talent. Just being able to sing so free on the stage and not just depending on to the studio version. You're right, Whitney does the exact same thing a lot. I really think it because they feel very comfortable on stage.
@bassheadjazz03 Thank you!! I agree... it's not just black music anymore and people need to stop pigeon holing a musical genre. That's like saying classical music is only for white people?? NOO!! There are black, white , asian etc people who like to sing different genres of music. Especially in the south alot of black and white people grew up together listening to jazz/rnb/soul It's universal. Singers like Teena Marie, Jon B and Amy Winehouse have proven that already.
@u2hubbard While I see where you're going with this, this is authentic Rhythm & Blues. Not "black" music. We dominated (and still do) the genre, but the crowd is a whole lot more diverse than you think. I just think it's silly to categorize good music to a specific race.
Sounds rushed live...when the bassist starts popping and snapping at the beginning of the song, seems to set a hurried pace for th song. Dont get me wrong, its a GREAT song!..just sounds rushed a bit.
Well congrats 2 u joemusicman64! U sound like my 25 year old twin daughters, only they've been fans since they were in my womb!! When I was pregnant with them I would put on her (cassette & Video) tape along and some classical music just to get them to calm down....and they would! To this day they play her CD's or in the car &/or Living room!! ; ) Her rendition of "Santa Baby" is another one of her sultry songs too! Enjoy!
365 days of the yr i want ur same ole love, this is my all time fav from ms. baker, i remember when i was a teenager every woman cross america had there hair cut n styled like anita i was like 13 then, some still have it like dat, i will be 36 in dec, my lord she is a TRUE DIVA, TRUE DIVA INDEED, i wanta c her live neverf just on tv she ever come to a city near me i'm there. i am a grown woman who love old school only damn the new shit 4 real.
Wow!! Although the whole video is phenomenal, Ms. Baker shows her true talent from 2:43 on. She manages to sing from her heart, without showing off like so many singers do these days. I'm not impressed by the voice manipulations they do....no true emotion like Anita Baker has!!! She is so blessed with that voice. BRAVO!
She came to Jamaica Jazz and Blues I think in 2006 and I never had the money to see her, only if she came back I would beg borrow rob/steal just to hear her perform! She is the greatest
boy, yall missed soul train, video soul, solid gold, american bandstand and nite trakks...try to look up these shows on utube.about to watch wats happnin starring rerun, raj, and dewayne, and dee....
She is one of the all time greats, IMHO. Quit playing at the height of her career to raise her children, or she would be far better known. In addition to her great singing, she' a great songwriter...her talent knows no bounds, And a beauty to boot. And how 'bout the band?? Funky, funky, funky. Totally in the slot. A timeless song, one of the best of the eighties and one of my personal faves. Thanks for posting it and thank you, Ms. Baker.
She's AMAZING!!! All of her music moves me. I grew up listening to her songs, now watching her, I still can't get enough ANITA :) She's complete, no one can top the standards she's set!
What is going on with the sound? I love this live version and I keep coming back hoping that the sound gets fixed Plz chk the sound #absolutelylovethisvid#

Uhm, is it mandatory for the people in the front to sit down??!! I wouldn't be able to sit down on that!
I couldn't have written that any better, of course not to take away from their talents, Anita is just...more soulful, sultry, jazzy, smoother, u name it - and even better live! I loved her @ Radio City Music Hall! I remember everyone jumping up on their feet for each & every song! ~

Nik B She's still touring!
I saw her last night. Great show and performer!
I noticed that at the end of her phrasing on this song and many others she added a lil sound, "dut," or "uh." Whitney would do it too. I wonder why. Any singers can tell me why?
I guess to be more funky or creative with the song. Most singers don't wanna sing the same songs the exact same way when they sing it live.
Talent. Just being able to sing so free on the stage and not just depending on to the studio version. You're right, Whitney does the exact same thing a lot. I really think it because they feel very comfortable on stage.
