  • This video was from 3 serparate flights over Rockaway Beach in Pacifica, CA. The fog was rolling in and the winds were 10mph, gusting to 15mph. I rebalanced the Yun-1 and went with thinner video cables for the FPV so that less stress was put on the gimbal motors. That helped a ton in the wind. I am still getting a few wobbles from the damper balls that are a bit too soft, but these will be swapped out for stiffer ones in the near future. My next step is to keep tuning the Naza on the MF450 copter. The nose is not locking in like I would like. So I'll play with the Yaw gains some more. Otherwise, I'm really happy with how everything is performing.

Very nice indeed, both quad and gimbal look to be tuned perfectly!
    Great work

Nicest flight video I have seen in a while... Looks like I'm going to have to add Rockaway Beach to my list of places to fly this summer.

Yep, you can see it right in the video. There is output for both tilt and roll to connect to your receiver. Then you just plug it in to a channel that has a dial or slider and you can manually control the tilt. It's really easy to setup thankfully.

My deepest apologies for that grevious error.

I'm still really happy with it. I am consistently getting great video from it and it so far has been problem free after the initial setup. I still wish FPVmodel would have supplied stiffer anti-vibration damper balls, but that's pretty minor and are easily replaced with heavier 300g balls.

The Yun-1 comes with an officially licensed Alexmos brushless gimbal controller. No need to connect the F1 and F2 gimbal ports on the Naza. The Naza is a terrible gimbal controller anyway. The alexmos board has outputs to connect the pitch (and roll if you wanted) to your receiver so you can manually control the pitch angle.

FPVmodel is still filling backorders. Once those are all sent out, they will allow new orders. It doesn't help though that they are out of the office this week for a tradeshow. Hopefully they get back soon and finish shipping out the rest of the pre-orders.

It's a stock 2 axis Yun-1 brushless gimbal from FPVModels. Although I recently converted it to 3 axis using two alexmos boards.

I don't see why not, you will have to figure out a way to rig it to the landing gear cross bars though. The heavy vibrations that the S800's usually put out will put the damper balls to the test though.

I agree, great video! Matt, can you tell me if you were able to find any assembly instructions for the Yun-1 and its electronics ? I have received mine but there are no instructions ? I am slowly putting it together but it is all by guesswork. It will be a while before i get it up and running i think, i am also setting up FPV and i must admit i am a little bit confused with it all !!! but very addicted !!!

    As I said, it's a "stock Yun-1 2 axis brushless gimbal".

I list it at the end of the video in the credits, but it's a Gopro Hero 3 black.

FPVmodel announced today that they will ship tomorrow to anyone that preordered and emails them requesting that they want it without the hard caseon the controller. The case has delayed shipment, but is not needed as they use clear heat shrink around the control board. They are also offering free landing gear as a gift for the delay. Check the Simple Brushless Gimbal Controller--FPV MODEL thread on RCgroups.com for more info and on where to plug in the wiring without the labels on the case.

It's from FPVmodel (dot) com (I hate the fact that you can't post links in replies). It takes some tweaking and tuning, but I've been happy with the results I've been able to get from it.

is it possible to connect it to the f1 and f2 ports on the DJI naza or does the gimbal have its own stability system?

The best thing I can recommend is going to the RCgroups.com yun-1 forum thread and read up. Look for the thread called "Simple Brushless Gimbal Controller--FPV MODEL". Read the last 10-20 pages and that should give you most of what you need to know about setup. One thing, the Yun-1 won't vertically balance with the Gopro in the case as FPVmodels shows it. Mount it without the case. Balance means that any angle you tilt the tray, it should stay at that angle.

Click on my name to go to my youtube channel and look for the video labeled Yun-1 with 3 axis mod overlooking golden gate bridge. It should be the first video in my recent uploads section.
