Ed! Thanks for the absolutely clear presentation and great playing . You made me want this keyboard and I ended up buying one today!! Have not got my hands on it as yet, will be delivered only on Monday. Great stuff!!
Just bought this baby - my first keyboard (after playing only the piano since I could stand). LOVE all these details - thanks for the help navigating!! :-)
To me this is a much more authentic Hammond sound than the Yamaha Reface which everybody seems to rave about. Not that much more expensive plus you get lots of additional sounds, and best of all full size keys. I like it.
Hammond key click is not really a dust issue, but it results from a contact issue that existed even in brand new Hammond tone wheel organs. People think an older Hammond has more key click, but really it's more often that a rock player gets an old Hammond than a church, and because the rock player increases the preamp gain into overdrive the result is much more gain on the key contact issue. A clean preamp has less key click. It has nothing much to do with age of an organ or dirt. Same w/ VIB/CH
i want to record on the vr-09 usb thumb drive using the roland integral 7 sounds, can this be done, i have experimented a bit on this, and all that comes out is the basic piano sound
My greatest wish was to have a professional organ. A few years ago I chose a Roland at 300 and I deeply regret because the REAL organ resources are very scarce. It's 3 times more expensive than a keyboard like VR9 and Roland does not provide the original organ resources like these: Vibrato, Chorus, Leakage, and the Leslie controls and other effects. It makes no sense. Very sad.
I buyed but a little disapointed... I usually use in church, and the pipe organ sounds a not smooth, there is a small "attack" on each notes...can I adjust that ?
Pretty horrible Leslie sim by 2014 standards, but the tone gen sounds fine, and clearly highly editable. There's no escaping the fact that one of these plus a Ventilator is still less than half the price of an equivalent Nord. Pretty good value. (and that's coming from a Nord owner!)
He says that you can trigger the Leslie with a pedal. There's only 2 input pedals on this thing: sustain and expression...where's the third one? Also, how do you make the Leslie to STOP/Brake, pivotal for jazz playing? He didn't even mention percussion. Sorry but this is a lame review.
cont. You might be surprised to know that it's the 'Brand New Hammond' sound that has all of the tight warmth and sweet overtones, but that's not to say that an emulated Hammond with the cross talk and key click turned down is like a brand new Hammond. NOTHING is like a real tone wheel Hammond organ 1935-1975 playing through a good Leslie with a Jensen V-21 Horn and a Jensen Special Design low rotor speaker, and the tube amp. Even a $200 Hammond L100! YT- Call Me with Walter Wanderley & Victor M
Because people don't have a clue how awesome a transistor organ is who play these things. They think it's some cheesy sound that can easily be emulated once they have pleased the Hammond crowd, but any real Hammond player knows it can't be! A REAL TRANSISTOR Vox, Farfisa, Ace Tone,Wurlitzer, Conn, Gulbransen,Thomas, Rodgers, or Yamaha is bliss that you have to play to know how great it is. An emulation of a Yamaha YC-10,Vox Jaguar,Farfisa Compact, or Wurlitzer 4500 is like a photo of your date!
Great Hammond sounds, horrible Leslie effect. You'd think a company like Roland would take the current crop of 'Clones to task and integrate the quality level of a Neo Vent right inside their instrument. For my money a great Hammond sound is much easier to obtain on a number of keyboards (primarily those with drawbars) than a true Leslie rotary effect. The next manufacturer that is able to integrate Vent quality rotary effects with drawbar Hammond sounds will corner the market.
If you wanna hear the Transistor Organ see this video at 11:48. Sounds really good, thinking about getting this cause I can't afford an Electro 4 or a used Electro 3. youtube dot com slash watch?v=t9k-NBb_a5k
So, let me get this straight. The VR-09 has tone wheel and transistor organs but, no pipe organ? Its rather insulting because, these instruments owe their very existence to the pipe organ.
effect knobs intensity to heavy - half amount effect would be moe than enough - range to big - piano & organ in layer mode: leslie effect runs as well on piano - strange sound then - update needed - 1 octave more needed - but overall worth the money.ok; ed: do you know: i would like to use an ipad app connected to VR09 MIDI In to change on a preloaded Programm (file utility) sending programm-changes (Registrations) that i´m able to switch via ipad my REGISTRATION (BANKS) 1-4 programm storage places individually. can somebody tell me how the bank/programm select values from the VR09 are called? (e.g. Fantom G7 was 84 0 xxx if i remember right but doesnt work on VR09) thank you
I hope Roland is firing the designer of its keyboards and synths very soon. It’s great technology, sounds great and looks since the mid 90s like cheesy plastic Casio keyboards from the 80s. Is there nobody with taste at Roland? This organ is sounding much better as it looks. Look at the Yamaha YC61...The same for all new digital synths. Looks cheesy and feels cheesy even if you knock on the housing. So sad...
Roland if ur gonna clone a Hammond make it sound like a Hammond & ur digital Leslie is just as rubbish as the VK-8 (the worst organ ive ever played) If you guys dont lift ur game u wont have any artists left! Not just organs but the RD-800 is a joke. Ur being left behind by ur competition. I used to love Roland stage pianos but you lost it. Go play a CP1 and listen to it feel it open it! Ur damper peddles are sub standard they fall apart within months. you may think im wrong but im not alone :(
I'm watching this vid 10 years later, and its killer, what a demo :)
Thanks for your in depth VR-09 tutorials Ed! Much appreciated!
Absolutely great instrument and great presentation! Ideal for life playing, but also useful in the studio. Thank you for this video! All best wishes!

very good demo. i've been using roland product almost my whole life, always love their stuff. i'm sold on this keyboard.
Very nice this brings me back to when I was six years old I use to play the Baldwin Organ
Ed! You're the man! You made want this keyboard. Thank you for your guidance on this keyboard and your awesome playing:)

Why is it that if a keyboard being demo'd has a selection of organs, the Vox and Farfisa sims are always ignored?
This guy is great! I'm was thinking of getting this organ and he's just sold it to me!
"Maybe we just wanna go to church and pull them all down" XD
very nice to see someone who knows what he is talking about
Sweet!!! I hope you enjoy it!!!
I have a roland rd150 wich i love because of it's keybed. Can i use it together with the vr-09 to create a double key organ?
I'm still trying figure out how to save my favorite
sounds to the buttons on the right ( a, b, c, d etc)
Pipe organs usually go in the synth sound bank. This was a demo of just the organ section.
Are you in chicagoland?😊
Can the rotary speaker speed be controlled with a foot pedal?

Does the keyboard split? Can it simulate an effective walking bass line?
Yes can use that in pdf reference.
I’m ready to buy or ORDER ONE
BUT NO ONE TELLS YOU HOW.I live in Appleton Wi.
i want to record on the vr-09 usb thumb drive using the roland integral 7 sounds, can this be done, i have experimented a bit on this, and all that comes out is the basic piano sound
Is this the best bang-for-the-buck in the thousand-dollar range?
Hi, hätte eine Frage: Besteht die Möglichkeit beim Roland VR-09 den Leslieeffekt von Slow auf Fast per Fußschalter zu steuern?
Ja, und das hat er im Video auch gesagt.
My greatest wish was to have a professional organ.

Thanks, does this model have built in speakers, or does it need external?
External. or phones
6:35 - 6:54 Let's go to Church!!! 🙌🏾😀
so helpful!!!!
Followed along with the tweaks until saving in the Registration. Then he wasn't clear and lost all my work. ...back to the Manual!
how much
Thanks’ to “ ED” again - cheers . P/s - i. ignore all the “ Useless comments .
"The third organ is a transistor organ, this is more of a tube organ"
What? That makes no sense whatsoever.
KingInky13 that confused me too.
the chapel organ funeral music 😂😂😂
Ed's good at organ playing. He's very experienced with playing with organs. I like it when he plays with my organ.
.........hmmm my next performance keyboard
Dude the Hammond click isn't due to aging. It's due to a built up tone release.
I buyed but a little disapointed... I usually use in church, and the pipe organ sounds a not smooth, there is a small "attack" on each notes...can I adjust that ?

Can someone tell me, does this have weighted keys? Like a real piano. Or is is the soft organ keys?
Soft.

that knob will wear out quickly
Yes! Nord!

can you please just actually play the thing!!

Coz they're rubbish? Just joking! I think the fact is most people prefer Hammond sounds.
I hope Roland is firing the designer of its keyboards and synths very soon. It’s great technology, sounds great and looks since the mid 90s like cheesy plastic Casio keyboards from the 80s. This isn't a demo, more like a tutorial. More playing, less talk please.
He is showing you how to edit the sounds. How can he do that without talking, pray?
He said it was not a demo. A demo doesn't tell you how. A tutorial shows you how. A demo shows you what.
Talking-Talking-Talking.!!!
TOO MUCH TALKING!!!!!

Just play the thing Jesus !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There are some of us who like to know how to create and edit the sounds. This was very useful.
You talk too much
FFS shut up and play the thing!!
do you know how to get chorus3?? on a vr09b?
