I would love to see a “lunch with Chris” series.
Always enjoyed the lunch with Darren videos.
Is there a new new engineer on the team to take over for Darren?
If so maybe a lunch video with that person would be interesting with regards to new products.

I had the absolute pleasure to meet Chris at AXPONA. After hearing a couple of different FR Series I had to seek him out simply to congratulate him on his accomplishment. Asking him questions would have been pointless because I probably would have not understood the technical aspects but what I did understand very clearly is what his work did for my ears. Most people go to work every day, me included, and just work. Others like Chris, humbly create amazing things.

In these videos, if they are presented as a conversation between Chris and Paul, say sitting in a couple chairs, and Chris answers the question of the day, that might help. He answers to Paul but really is answering to the audience. Sort of like a guest on a talk show.

I can tell you first hand that Paul is right, Chris is a treasure trove of information about all things audio, and video also. When Paul and Chris came to set my new FR 30’s up when I was lucky enough to get one of the first in the US. We went out to dinner later in the day and Chris carried most of the conversation, not Paul, which is surprising because he likes to talk. Chris was very insightful about why he chose certain things on the FR 30’s and what he wanted to do on the rest of the line. He is a wealth of knowledge that would be a great addition to the You Tube channel.

    Greetings from Germany
I´m so happy with my FR30, as long as they don´t break I will never buy anything else. Beating these great speakers "clearly" would cost such a huge amount of money, somebody has to put the brakes at some point, all together is in a crazy area anyway, crazy
Powerplant20 doing its job really well too, totally happy with it.
With the electronics I did go another way, Playback Designs MPD-8 as DAC and MPT-8 as Transport (CD, SACD/Streamer) driven by Jeff Rowland 625 S2 and Capri S2 SC .
My dealer was astonished, he has the same Speakers at his place driven by psaudio amps and their SACD-transport, DAC was the big MSB Reference and he said my chain sounds even better

Consider saving any questions that come in that have anything to do with speakers, design, placement, room treatments etc, for maybe a once per week or once per month video with Chris. Just sit next to each other one camera and pose the questions to him. Maybe after a while he will get more comfortable in front of the camera in that format and find a way to do a weekly video on his own in a format he is comfortable with.

I'm hearing music and notes continuing longer as the sound fades at the end of tracks, beyond what used to be the end of the track. Not playing my system any louder, and my system hasn't gotten a better signal to noise ratio al of a sudden. What's most impressive is these are tracks I've played nearly 100 times over the years. Increased resolution from tweaking is really fun.Tracks continuing several seconds longer at the end is something I've never heard anyone comment on, but it happens when you are really getting somewhere. I think that's why we picked up Stereophile and TAS every month, even though we couldn't afford to buy the equipment reviewed. We could sometimes picture some new quality of the sound that the reviewer was describing, as more advanced equipment opened up new sonic vistas that were never experienced before. Like sharing a journey with us, into totally new territory. Have all the analogies and adjectives been used up? How many video reviewers take our minds to places like they sometimes could in print?
Have any of you lucky six figure souls gotten to the pinnacle? Is it a place that's truly worth getting to? And why not tell us all about it. Not in descriptions like better clarity, better soundstage etc., but REALLY... what it's like. Just how different of a place is it? And experience wise, what is so different about it?

No one is claiming to be FIRST today. It kind of throws everything out of whack on here, don't it?

    • @bobr9605
      @bobr9605 23 дні тому

I'm not sure I am the person that should respond. If the qualifications to properly respond are to be an Engineer, designer, or a six figure soul, that has reached the pinnacle. I am unqualified on all fronts. If loving the idea of this conversation qualifies me, I'm in.
I will put it this way. For my entire life I have never (including now) liked opera music. I would hear people talk about how moving it was and the expressionism, the subtilties, blah blah blah. When it came to Stereo listening, I could at least relate to so called good or bad sound and that's where it stopped. If I heard something I liked, obviously it was good, Right? but I had no idea why.
As a kid I loved listening to music for hours. It took me away from the stress of life. Life priorities then took over. A career, Wife, Kids and a home consumed my time and money. About 5 years ago I reconnected with a high school buddy that loved music listening as much as I did and was inspired by my dad's very modest system from the late 70's and early 80's. For twenty-five plus years he proceeded to put together one of the most impressive systems I've ever read about and one thousand times better than anything I have ever seen in a personal home. After getting a chance to sit and listen for a number of days while catching up, it hit me like a brick. I now fully understood how people could describe opera in ways that impacted them. (I'm still in the what's the fuss camp, its opera)
How do you describe to someone seeing the Grand Canyon? I don't believe you truly can the same way I do not believe I can explain what I heard. In exactly zero seconds, I was fully aware that my friend's system would never be afforded in my home. That being said, I set out to put together a system I could enjoy knowing I was just settling. For the first time in my life the stars aligned, and things went in my favor. Even getting used equipment, I am humbly aware that the system I put together is far above my knowledge and pay grade. It turned out that I found the same speakers at less than a quarter the price as new. I then got some quality equipment to drive them. To my absolute shock I now truly believe my system is better than my friends. Not because it is but because this one is in my house. When you spoke of hearing things never previously heard I knew exactly what you were expressing. because of the time I have invested in set up placement and researching and a lot of listening, I have heard far greater things in my own home than I ever did at my friends, only because of the time at my home versus his. Once you hear something you know what to listen for. I now hear things in my crappy car stereo because I know to listen for it. No, it's not as good clean clear or whatever adjective you can use but it's made better by knowing the sound is there.
      The elusive "pinnacle"
If you were to multiply my net worth by a thousand, I am not sure I could get and have the perfect system. In the audiophile world my system is moderately nice. In the real world it's ridiculous. I have rapidly discovered that most of the average populous feels the exact same way about me and the love of the sound I hear the exact same way I look at fans of the opera. (they're nuts spending that kind of money for that entertainment.) Now that I have a very revealing system, I struggle with the idea of listening because I like the music or listening because I like the sound of the recording. Listening for the sound of the recording has opened up a world of music I would not have otherwise listened to. (No, not opera, that and rap still are not listenable.) The curse of the pinnacle search is that when you go from various recordings from one artist let alone different artists and engineering styles. Not one system can make all of them the tonality and presentation that I prefer. I went from zero to obsession and slowly learned that transitioning to appreciation for what is in front of your ears can make for some really nice plateaus.
      Happy Listening.

When I started my channel, I found it incredibly difficult to talk to camera (camera shy if you like) and if you watch some of my earliest videos vs laterones you can see the journey of becoming "comfortable on camera". SO, you hinted at it - maybe the trick is to do it together, interview style. That way he's talking to you and not the camera. That might work.

Sure, hearing directly from Chris is great, but if he prefers not to appear on UA-cam, good for him. To all those begging to have him put on camera, think about being asked to talk about your area of expertise on a worldwide video platform, available in perpetuity. And think also of the comment section: besides all the positive and constructive commentary, plenty of annoying, bad-faith comments from know-it-alls and pseudo-experts. These are just a couple of reasons why even someone who is good on camera, such as a Chris, might prefer to concentrate on working his magic behind the scenes.
