it is amazing to think the kind of quality which serie a had in its prime you sometimes hear people complain it was a boring league that there was too many single goal victories or goalless draws. when you have the best defenders ever to play the games on mass in the same league playing for several clubs it not hard to see why it was so hard to score a goal look at cannavaro he was only a kid at the time and he playing against weah the only african balon dor winner and baggio probably the best italian player in 50 years.

Cocky little fouling shit. For all his good defending, there were too many incidents of fouling in his career, it was part of his game. One of these players who had no qualms about fouling to stop an opponent, and shamelessly thought he was doing a good job because he doubtless got praise from his manager for it. When he did that shoulder barge on Weah @3:36, bowling him over with excessive aggression and not even following the ball, that should have been a penalty. Going off at that angle, totally off course from the ball, is not a tackle, and if the incident had taken place further up the field where it would have been more obvious to the officials that Cannavaro had no interest in the ball, it would have been a free kick and a yellow card. Moreover if it had been Sunday League and Weah hadn't been a good mannered man, he would probably have put Fabio in his place when he had the nerve to shout at him! He fouled Desailly about 5 seconds earlier as well; with what looks like a hand behind the Frenchman's back for good measure, he runs across Desailly's path to trip him.

@@grandfisher3346 Fair enough, he certainly was a determined player. Not one I was fond of though, which you can probably tell from my rather rude words! :)

Well, you are free to have your opinion but you are the minority in this. There’s a reason why Cannavaro won the Ballon d’Or and one of the only three defenders ever to do so.
Why I don’t dismiss the “fouling” you have mentioned, I say it was part of the game. Every great defender had some little dirty tricks in their arsenal and it wasn’t a big deal. Also, don’t forget that football rules keep changing all the time and you call “foul” may well have been permitted at the time. Cheers.

Ur crying more than the fucking players back then. Football used to be a man's sport. And even then, it was soft if you compare it to american football and hockey. Stop being a bitch because not only defenders were rough and aggressive, it was the game in general. Forwards and mids when trying to recover the ball would also be very intense and physical.
