Dude same! I remember playing this during car rides and at times when my mom dragged me along to shopping trips as a kid along with Drawn to Life. Good times!

I bought Unlimited and Unmasked on Steam a year ago (I think) and I love the freedom of creating your characters on the object editor that I didn't have when I played the 3DS version of Unlimited.
The reason why Super Scribblenauts work so much better than Scribblenauts 2, is because of the whole adjective aspect. They added an adjective to the original game title. :P
Watching this video unlocked long buried memories of writing 'pterosaur' in the notebook, because for some reason while pterodactyls tried to kill you in the first game, pterosaurs would let you use them to fly around the level. You could even use the attach the rope trick on them. Good times
Hey everyone! Just wanted to say I apologize if there's a few jaggy images or drop shadows- very small things of course, but basically, I had some rendering issues this time around, likely due to this being my biggest video. I hope the product is still something you enjoy, this was a blast to make!
I got that preorder Rooster hat, haha. It's easy to overlook just how incredible the "type anything you can think of" idea of Scribblenauts truly was when it launched on DS. I'm glad it's accessible on ios and Switch now too. I recently played Unlimited with a couple young nephews and asked them to tell me what to type and they were in awe and loved it.
Great video! I LOVED Super Scribblenauts when I was a kid, I think it was probably my favorite DS game. I played Unlimited not TOO long ago, but now I really want to go back to Super!
Scribblenauts Unlimited was my childhood. I remember loving this game and having a great time. Thank you for reviewing this. P.S. (Unmasked should've been DLC, for real)
Unmasked did the whole checkpoint thing even WORSE. Sometimes you get to the end of a mission and then the game bugs out and you have to start all over.
This video made me hunt down my copy of Super Scribblenaughts and play it again. Most fun I’ve had with a game in quite a while! Sad the series probably won’t ever see the light of day again. Thank you making this video :)
WOW you unearthed a memory I completely forgot about. I used to play Scribblenauts on my aunt's iPhone every time I went to her house as a kid. I basically did the same thing every time: Made a bunker with a bunch of humans, and then simulated the zombie apocalypse. Also I'd give myself wings.
Scribblenauts Unlimited was actually my first PC game played when I got my first laptop, I remember playing Scribblenauts on the DS as well, it was really fun! I hope some day they make an actual proper continuation of the series and not like that last one on the switch
I loved this game as a kid and and still do, I remember spending hours in the Super Scribblenauts level editor. My favorite thing to do was to type in “Me” and it’ll create the blue evil version of you and he’ll just spawn in random items. Me and my friends would see how long we could last as we typed in 3 of those guys who were just spawning random objects everywhere.
I've absolutely adored this series for years and years. Scribblenauts 1 was the first game I bought after getting a DS, and I loved it. So when Unlimited came out I was floored. It was my absolute favorite game when I was little. I even enjoyed Unmasked, even though it's not the greatest game lol. In fact, it was my introduction to DC Comics. So it has a special place in my heart for that reason, since I'm a huge DC fan now. (And I just realized that I have a Scribblenauts pfp halfway through writing this comment, haha) The one game I never got around to playing was Super Scribblenauts, and this video is making me want to go check it out! Thank you for making this, it's really neat to see appreciation for this franchise!
Scribblenauts Unmasked is also probably the only decently challenging Scribblenauts game IMO, seeing as it's the only one I haven't beaten yet. And before anyone brings up the first Scribblenauts, no. That game is actually really easy. As Jeff said, half the levels are practically clones of each other that can be solved with the exact same strategy (blob to kill all the enemies, wings/jet pack for indefinite flight, shovel/pickaxe to dig through soft terrain). At least the later games improved on that and made you actually use a varied vocabulary.
I remember how i got my copy of the first game. Borrowed It from a friend, but then he moved away and i never gave It back, and i still have it today. Thanks Mark, you gave me a really cool game 👍

As a kid I didn't have any issues with it lol but I can imagine trying to play it now I'd probably have similar complains like you. I do remember loving it and thinking how insanely cool it was, that you could type in pretty much anything and it'd pop into the game. But yeah like you covered, I just used the jetpack on like every level lol. I own scribblenauts unlimited on PC but tbh I didnt get too far into it. It didnt really grab my attention

I had this game as a kid and spent the vast, VAST majority of my time with it just screwing around in the title screen area, seeing what items I could create and how they'd interact with each other
The Switch version of Mega Pack has an option to play with touch screen if you're playing in handheld which is at least nice. You also forgot to mention the removal of the easter eggs in mega pack which is definitely a big loss
Scribblenauts Unlimited was the first game I asked my parents to buy me on PC! x) That and Remix were a huge part of my childhood. Honestly though, I don't think we need another game. Scribblenauts is such a specific idea, executed pretty much flawlessly. I just don't see what else could be done with this concept that would make it better, instead of derivative, like the later attempts to continue the franchise.
I remember growing up with the 3DS version of Unlimited but I also remember being pretty pissed that I couldn't make any custom characters in that version. I might pick up the Wii U version considering what you've described on it
Scribblenauts was one of the most influencing games of my life, hell my username everywhere is the default shop username in Unlimited. Outstanding video, you've earned a subscriber.
As a kid with an enormous vocab scribblenauts unlimited was really easy for me to beat. They should've been more creative with the levels tbh. Especially since the concept itself opens doors to boundless creativity!
Supersonic wings was the best mobility option, 2nd only to gluing a magnet and saddle to a torpedo. Yes that was a valid option. Also to delete any object instantly, hungry stapler and add candy to whatever object you want gone. It's also an instant kill in any "combat" situation
Huh. I've not thought about Scribblenauts in years, never played any beyond the 2 on DS, but now that I see this it's all rushing back. What a great couple of games. I agree I often fell into the trap of using a handful of really useful options, but even that was fun, and advanced mode helped with that. Definitely going to have to look into getting some of the more recent games on Steam or something. Using that rotary dial looks abysmal so if I can't have a touch screen I'm gonna need a keyboard for sure. And now I want Maxwell in Multiversus. That would be a great oddball choice for a character. There aren't any pure video game characters in the game outside of the original characters, so it'd fill a unique role.
Scribblenauts is one of my favorite childhood games! Unlimited will always be the best game in the series (though the ending is a little weird), and Super Scribblenauts is a close second. Also yeah, the music in Scribblenauts is a bop! Glad someone else noticed that.
t's kinda funny how the contrast is between the deaths of 5th cell's one-hit wonders are cause like scribblenauts would have died peacefully in its sleep in a hospital bed just hours after his family visited and said their goodbyes while drawn to life was like that one uncle you really liked but never heard anything about him for years on end until somebody found him dead in an alleyway with three half-eaten hookers
I've only played Unlimited and Remix. They were fine for what they were. But honestly, I feel that after Unlimited the series really had nowhere to go but down. What else can you do? The "create anything" mechanic was impressive, but it's not really a good game mechanic. It's the same problem you get with procedurally generated game worlds: the content is wide, but shallow. It all starts to feel the same after awhile, because it is.
I played this so much when I was younger, making babies run from cannibals, finding ways to weaponise everything to massacre people and fighting zombies and the reaper. A giant flying mannequin saying “HMMMM” and eating everyone in its path while making smiley and fork icons is quite something.
The kid who deleted all my save data on the game on my Wii U and completely reset my game when I went to the washroom. and how I lost my Wii U that probably got sold away.
6:50 I remember hearing once that Teachers weren’t paid very good so they kinda had to rely on students giving them foods like apples or inviting them to eat dinner with their family.
I remember spawning an invincibility thing or a force field a lot to do missions on the ds when I was in elementary school LOL but I distinctly remember a flood/tsunami was immune to invincibility. I also remember for some missions with wild animals I'd make them drink "friendly potion" so I know all too well about cheesing it
8:45 u should I note if you’re playing the original print of Scribblenauts 1 (as in the standalone cartirage) the jet pack doenst actually let you fly moreso gives you a high jump
Scribblenauts Unmasked feels like a game made for hardcore DC fans rather than a game made for hardcore Scribblenauts fans. It just hit differently... and not in a good way.
as a hardcore DC fan and a scribblenauts fan, it’s not really either. it was neat to see all the really obscure characters they had, but the gameplay was so bland.
I played pretty much all the early titles as a young kid/teenager and they very much formulated my love of creative games and fostered my creativity as an artist, thrilled to have sat down and watched this video
Currently having a great time replaying Unlimited on the Switch and feel taken back to 2012/13 when I was in middle school and spent countless hours on the 3DS version. Thanks for making this video man, glad to see people still remember this franchise.
It’s sad to know that Scribblenauts is pretty much dead. These games always had a special place in my heart because back in my childhood when the original and Super came out, my Literacy skills were not that great. But, when I started playing through them repeatedly I got a lot better at spelling. I’ll always be one of the few people who wants Maxwell for Smash Bros or Multiversus I’ll be happy with either one.
I live in a foreign country and my ex gf didn't speak fluent English. We would play scribblenauts games on the ps4 to help her study and spend time together. It's a very fun time and her favorite was scribblenauts showdown because the others took too much time and reading
Thank you for this video!! I love how in-depth you went, I love this series. I mainly grew up playing Scribblenauts and Super Scribblenauts, and a few months ago I got really into Scribblenauts Unlimited.
Thanks bro, your video helped me rekindled my love for Scribblenauts series, which have been a big help in maintaining my vocabulary as a second language English speaker!
I'm halfway through the video but was it ever mentioned that Scribblenauts Unlimited came out on PC as well? In a way, it's THE perfect platform to release on since you get a full-blown physical keyboard to type with. And I'm not entirely sure but didn't it also have the ability to take word prompts from the internet created by other users?
I recently played Super Scribblenauts again and realized that not all Levels were completable in all languages lol. That's why I was stuck at so many of them as a kid
Scribblenauts was my childhood. I always found it fun to figure out just how much creativity each game would allow as it expanded more and more each game. It's a real shame they stopped making games.
The first game of the series I played was Unlimited on the PC, and it was fun to just mess around in as Maxwell is just an uncaring agent of chaos and destruction.
Scribblenauts Unlimited on the WiiU was so much fun, I barley even played through the missions, I just enjoyed causing havoc and seeing what insane set pieces I could create
The Scribblenauts collection on DS RULED as a kid, I’d do anything for a fresh new game that evolved their ideas or unlimited’s. Unmasked… we can ignore that. I played the 3DS version and beat it in like an afternoon .-.
I had this on the DS when I was little and when recollecting games for my DS/3DS/WII/WIIU/switch collection I kept the whole franchise on priority, I got both games in a second hand store and they were being sold for only £3 AND £4... lets just say I was more than happy
Hey if ur bored in the original Scrriblenauts, something really fun to mess around with is Magic and Shrinking Magic. Shrinking Magic makes anything smaller, INCLUDING maxwell and any items he's holding. It changes up a lot o levels. Magic, though, is broken and kinda glitchy. Dropping it on anything freezes it in a block of ice, which is semi-useful for avoiding enemies, but where it's REALLY broken is in any level with switches and those metal doors. Magic can freeze those. And because they're partially in walls, they glitch out like crazy, often removing the door or moving it partially up or down, which you can then sneak past with Shrinking Magic. And if you use an air vent sideways, you can use magic on sideways doors also. Playing the game this way is honestly a wildly different experience, so I'd definitely recommend it, I have no idea why it was included in the game to be honest. This doesn't work in the other games though :(, and I dunno about the DS collection.
Also a reeeeallly easy way to cheese advanced mode in Scribblenauts OG is to find a solution for the puzzle, and then on future playthroughs, type the same objects, but with adjectives in front of them. The adjectives are obviously ignored, but the object counts as a different object, allowing you to do the same solution three times if you wanna be that guy. I dunno if this works on the DS collection tho.
Scribblenauts was my childhood and Unlimited was my favorite. So sad there's no more games like that. Such a good concept...

FUCKING DAMMIT. THEY GOT RID OF SCRIBBLENAUTS REMIX
Great comment, I agree!
Thanks. Good video!
Another bonus of the pc version is that it uses the Steam Workshop behind the custom items, and that makes searching for items so much easier
> be me
> see scribblenaughts showdown physical copy for the switch in the store
> remember scribblenaughts and how cool it was
> disappointment
We got another Scott the woz before gta 6
Love the content, subbed
I remember spawning an invincibility thing or a force field a lot to do missions on the ds when I was in elementary school LOL but I distinctly remember a flood/tsunami was immune to invincibility. I also remember for some missions with wild animals I'd make them drink "friendly potion" so I know all too well about cheesing it
Holy shit let me bust out my DSI and teleport back to 2009 with this all this nostalgia
Man I remember going down a rabbit hole in unmasked for the entries of all the characters
I truly wish that one day scribblenauts will come back, i really hope so
Bruh someone get Maxwell's parents birth control PLEASE 💀💀💀
LOL
8:45 u should I note if you’re playing the original print of Scribblenauts 1 (as in the standalone cartirage) the jet pack doenst actually let you fly moreso gives you a high jump
Greek Scott the Woz!
This bought back so many memories lol
But fr tho I found your channel close to two months ago and I love it keep up the hustle 💪🏿
Thank you :)
i’ve been wanting someone to make a scribblenauts retrospective for YEARS. i seriously can’t thank you enough for finally doing it !!!!!!!!!! :)
I feel like I’m watching Scott the woz from a parallel dimension
I live in a foreign country and my ex gf didn't speak fluent English. We would play scribblenauts games on the ps4 to help her study and spend time together. It's a very fun time and her favorite was scribblenauts showdown because the others took too much time and reading
Thank you for this video!! I love how in-depth you went, I love this series. I mainly grew up playing Scribblenauts and Super Scribblenauts, and a few months ago I got really into Scribblenauts Unlimited.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks bro, your video helped me rekindled my love for Scribblenauts series, which have been a big help in maintaining my vocabulary as a second language English speaker!
Glad you enjoyed it!!!
5:43 top right 💀💀
"Death of 5th Cell" sounds more like an MGS plot point
I'm halfway through the video but was it ever mentioned that Scribblenauts Unlimited came out on PC as well? In a way, it's THE perfect platform to release on since you get a full-blown physical keyboard to type with. And I'm not entirely sure but didn't it also have the ability to take word prompts from the internet created by other users?
I do mention it!
I recently played Super Scribblenauts again and realized that not all Levels were completable in all languages lol. That's why I was stuck at so many of them as a kid
Great video again, can’t wait for the future channel growth man!
Thank you!!!
Had to convince the gamestop employee to tell my mom this game was ‘educational’ when I was 11 lol
😊 14:24 i understand: they don’t want you to kill the leprechaun nor the athlete
making custom characters in unlimited was fun, I used to love watching DrKendoCommentaries
Thanks for viewing!
I'm so glad I found this channel through this video! I'll go watch more of your content. Subscribed 😊
I loved this series. So sad to see it go.
I can still hear the sound of picking up a Starite.
I remember playing the 3DS scribblenauts, such nostagila for this game. I was a dumb kid so every area had a zombie infection lol
I had this on the DS when I was little and when recollecting games for my DS/3DS/WII/WIIU/switch collection I kept the whole franchise on priority, I got both games in a second hand store and they were being sold for only £3 AND £4... lets just say I was more than happy
57:33 if you listen carefully, "por una cabeza" of the argentinian musician Carlos Gradel is playing in the back of the video, or a versionof it
This is a very "back in my day" type video from how much you say how it's so much better than "games in this day and age"
This doesn't work in the other games though :(, and I dunno about the DS collection.
surprised to see scribblenauts hasn't had a new game in years, I'm glad someone still cares about it though
Always a Scribblenauts fan!
I’m actually really glad to see someone going on about this game because it was big for my childhood and gave me creative thinking
