    I have removed and put back the tank twice. When you put back in to make it easy and to avoid struggling and lifting the tank: 1 connect the vent tower to the breathers and push the tank in place with the tower attached; avoids connecting 2 difficult to get to hoses, 2. Push the rear of the tank into place (with a small jack) first while supporting the front of the tank on blocks about 150 mm high above the ground, then put in the back cross support with its 2 bolts loosely screwed in. 3. tie a string or wire round the plug up into the fuel gauge signal and pull this up into the car cabin. Make sure that as you raise the tank this plug comes right up through the hole. You may have to verify this when doing step 4 other wise the sender wire will get stuck between the tank side and the body . 4. using a small jack push the front of the tank up slowly but don't jack so hard that you put a dent in the tank. 5. Put in the front support strap by putting grease on the rod so it does not fall out of the strap and then screw in the bolt of the left hand side of the car. If you follow this you will find it easy to put the tank bank in as no lifting is required. from Jeff

    Gtechniq makes a ceramic coating for Black trim called Gtechniq C4. It lasts for 3 yrs and is very easy to apply. Now is the perfect time to apply the coating to protect the brand new finish and not have to worry about putting on dressings every couple of weeks. Nothing makes a car looks old and tired as fast as faded black trim. I use it on both of my cars and trim still looks like day 1.

    No need to drop coolant, just move the pipes out of the way. Also check the current draw on the fuel pump. It's much higher than the MR2 and the Walbro 255 so you could melt some wires if you don't update the wires.

    Another tip is to grab a fuel pump electrical plug from a scrap yard car and connect up two long leads to it. Then you can drop the hose off the discharge of the pump and slip on a long length that you run to a fuel can with the tank still inside the car. Now you can run the pump from a battery and drain the tank completely before removal. Of course you could also just drive it until it runs out too..:)

  • @toddk4115
    @toddk4115 4 роки тому +1

    The easy part is getting that out. The difficult part is getting it back in and hooking up the lines. You may want to either buy a new fuel filler hose or use a hair dryer/heat gun to heat soften up the filler hose a bit as they stiffen over the years and it's super difficult to get back into place that way. The Evap lines are a PITA and since you have A/C lines those can be a pain as well. What makes this job even more difficult is the heat sheild you have to remove whereas the first generation MR2's had a plastic cover that was much easier to remove. Don't know why Toyota made the fuel pump in a place were you have to drop the tank to get it out but I know it's mostly for safety reasons with the long hardlines that are running to the engine from the top of the tank. That braided covered hose usually cracks on the end or both ends and 'should' be replaced but also can be reused and more than likely won't be a problem b/c the clamp(s) are forward of where those cracks are and all it is is vapors.

I hope you also change all the related wiring on the pump and etc since you have access to it now.

    Omg, Sarah, the repairs and maintenance you do on your cars is mind blowing and impressive. You have so much patience. Here’s an idea for a project car. How about you just build a car. Like find a shell of any car and install wheels and axles and interiors and carpeting. Like LEGO style build an actual car. There has to be something out there. You’ll have bragging rights to say you’re a leading wonderful woman who just kicked ass and literally built a car. Everyone talks about project cars and you have done your share of repairs and replacement of parts. Just an idea! Keep up the great work!

    Reminds me of my college days when I dropped my Pontiac Fiero's fuel tank for pump shenanigans too. That was the first time, but not the last!

    This video has made sure of something for me. I should not buy the Quickjack. Just doesn't lift high enough to justify the price. Seeing a much smaller person than myself underneath that proves it out.

    Hey Sarah, when I re-use coolant, I pour it through a paint strainer funnel into the cooling system. Gets all the chunks out.
