John , I must say . Watching you fish is nothing of amazing . I’ve been tossing lures in the waters for years not giving a shit of a caught anything or not . I’ve taking fishing a lot seriously in the last 12-16 months and my catch has increased exponentially thanks to your content . This is my first comment on any of your videos been watching for the last year and half . I’m amazed at how well someone can know the lay of the land and how to catch fish almost every damn toss . I’m constantly sharing your videos with my two friends that have also seriously stepped up their game . Thank you
The tsunami sand eel is THE best cold saltwater lure at night. I learned about this lure and its natural relevance to the bass diet from your book. And since using it, man does this thing produce fish when all the other plastics and jigs aren't doing it. They see it, they know what it is, and they know that it's not entirely out of this world for that forage to be around late fall/early winter and late winter/early spring. Thank you a million times over for this insight.
I've been fishing the beach in Westhampton area for the last few years as my boat is being refit. I find that the fish can be right at the edge of the white water, and standing in the water isn't always necessary. I'm talking 5-10 foot from shore. Black and white soft plastics and black and white buck tails do well most days for me. I like to use a egg weight that slides on the line, so the soft plastics can be sucked up easily, and a leader, very slow retrieve. And if you want to catch a giant, snag a bunker if you can, and let it swim. Technically by law you should switch from the weighted treble hook to a circle hook, but a lot of times the bunker gets hit before you get it to shore. Good luck, be safe, and wear a belt with your waders.
You inspire me to keep trying to improve with every video you post. Thank you for sharing your experiences and tips, much appreciated. Now I just have to get out there more often to get my lines wet.
Nice video. I like that the other guy was considerate enough to give you some space to land your fish. I think most anglers are like that. But there always seems to be that one guy that should buy you dinner before he moves in that close. Great tips. I've often wondered what to look for on those days when the fish aren't jumping all around advertising their presence.
John, I loved this video. I bought some gulp eels today in preparation for a Thanksgiving weekend trip in DE. I wanted to figure out how to rig them, but learned a lot more than that from your video. I’m going to look into your books.
John thank you very much for sharing all of this great information. I recently bought these sandal lures for my trip to cape cod at the end of this month and I am very excited to put them to use now after seeing this video!
Hey - there have been several times in the last couple weeks where I watched others catching when I didn't and I'd be mumbling under my breath "I suck!". Just try to spend as much time as you can on the beach and watch those who are catching.
That's great fishing! I've sent for some of these 7" lures and I'm going to try them on English sea Bass. I have to say I envy you having sport like this.
Darn, I can't even catch a cold . I've been out to Gilgo state park with my jeep and have the worst luck . What should I be looking for in July and August at that beach ? It's time I catch something . Btw best videos I've found in you tube so far. I watch at work when I'm overwhelmed and man do the relax me
July and August are generally slow best bet is to fish the Bay side with bombers and plastics or the inlet with eels Until the baitfish start to migrate around the first ten day stetches of fifty degree nights .... Good luck
Every time I go into a bait shop I see these same baits and some different other types I keep over looking them next time I get out I'm deff going to buy some
I just bought some gulp sand eels and swimbait hooks ... I wanna try fishing them but don't really know where the real eels hang out in the Chesapeake bay so I am doing research now ... great video
this kills me to see you kicking ass like this lol...i live on the south shore and i suck, i havent learned the real spots i guess so thats part of my problem. but i feel like im wasting my time anytime i go out there
Hey there John. I am getting a new light tackle rod from Star and I need to refill my arsenal with new lures for stripers and blues. I was really focusing on this lure. I was wondering what the sizes are and if you had to guess, what weight do you think this lure is that you are using? By the way I purchased your Bucktailing book a couple days ago. Keep up the great work! Tight lines!
John. Great video, as usual. You fished next to me this spring, & we spoke. I use your FishersLog. How can I do a backup? I have to change computers. Thank you
Great informative video john! I live in South Jersey and have just started surf fishing again, mainly looking for stiper and bluefish. i tried surf fishing last weekend with clam and squid and caught nothing but skates. We fished off of a jetty. we gave a bunch of lures a whirl too, no fish. I think i was not fishing in the right area. Any ideas on how to find good areas were these fish might be congregating like in this video? Other then birds.
Great video. You mentioned yu picked this spot because it was deeper water. I couldn't tell any difference from the video where you picked and the water around you. Are there clear signs of deeper water? Thanks
a tsunami eel is the only lore ive ever caught striped bass on in Sea Isle City NJ. I tied a 2 oz weight about 18 in above the lure to get it out further and it worked like a charm. Is this NOVEMBER on LI?
Could you briefly explain how white water in the surf generally serves as good structure for bass? I know its not the situation here, but what about on a more rough day.
4:15 is the gear/tackle used. Spooled 30lb test spider wire stealth braid with 3 feet leader of 50lb test flourocarbon, joined to the braid with a barrel swivel.
where were you fishing at? I'm from Indiana and my family takes an annual trip to Florida(panhandle)(St. Joseph Beach to be specific if you know where that's at) and I always surf fish but I just leave bait in the water. This year I am going to bring a lighter weight pole and fish with lures. I will defiantly be picking up one of those tsunami sandeel lures. I was wondering if you could message me or just reply to this comment with some tips for surf fishing with lures. I am also looking to buy a few other lures that will catch just about anything. So basically I'm looking for a versatile lure that can catch any sort of fish that I reel it by. So it would be wonderful if you could get in touch with me some how with some tips and suggestions. I am also going to bring a shark fishing pole so if know anything about shark fishing rigs or techniques for surf fishing for sharks that would also be great. Thanks for taking time to read this and if possible please reply.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing thanks! Have you tried any of the savage gear imitations by any chance? I have a bunch of 3 to 5 inch sizes in mackerel color and white/pink color... didn't know if those would be like the tsunamis (outside of the size being shorter of course)
Hello I live in the boston area and fish at a local bride. It's Not a very large bridge with a fast current. Any recommendations for lures to be used here.

I love the guys driving around, not fishing, while you're hammering the line siders!

John if this video shows anything... it's that if I ever see you on the beach, I'm just gonna pack my shit and leave
Great vid!
Lol
Opposite for me.. If I see him he may have a new fishing buddy for the day. Wanted or not
I've just started sea fishing from the beach near my home in Devon. I found this vid fascinating and very informative.
Thank You John for your very detailed and informative videos! Amazing catches you had that day!
John thank you very much for sharing all of this great information. I recently bought these sandal lures for my trip to cape cod at the end of this month and I am very excited to put them to use now after seeing this video!
Last two weeks of October this year was the best surf fishing of my life. I bet i passed you and didn't even know it!
Hey - there have been several times in the last couple weeks where I watched others catching when I didn't and I'd be mumbling under my breath "I suck!". Just try to spend as much time as you can on the beach and watch those who are catching.
Thanks for showing the retrieve speed. Hopefully you can start doing that in every video.

Thank you for all you share. Especially showing the retrieve speed in this vid.
8:20, glad to see some people still have some kind of fishing etiquette. I’m not an usually angry guy but that’s something that does get me fired up.
Wow you had a great day of fishing! Good job john thanks for video
Reliable, tackle-box miracle for November and December.

Really tough. I use LL Beans. Great warranty.

I am jealous! man! great fishing day for sure

Hi John, similar to the bucktail, do you like twitch the sandeel every couple cranks too? Thankyou love the videos! Tight Lines
Wanted a 9-footer with a certain action.

Nice video sir! Is there any particular reason why a foot of length has been cut off the base of the rod? Just curious.
Learning a lot!! Thank you
Would u consider that retrieve speed moderate speed or slow?
cant wait to go the Rockaways/Jone beach areas to try out my sandeels which i had purchase several months ago.
EXELENTE MY AMIGO SALUDO DESDE LA PAZ B C sur MEXICO ¡¡¡
John, how are you finding the deeper water? Is it that you just know the beach you are fishing or is it something in the water you're seeing?
Good, really good... But isn't it dangerous and risky to fish in that weather because thunderbolts can target you?
Can I go fishing with you? You are the man!
Between slow and moderate.
John what size VS are you using for this application?
I have an eel fishing video on my channel from a boat in Long Island Sound.
Could you briefly explain how white water in the surf generally serves as good structure for bass? I know its not the situation here, but what about on a more rough day.
White water means there`s deep water right after a sandbar (sandbar being the location at which the wave breaks).
John can you recommend any hip/chest waders that you love and wont break the bank?
John, I haven't done it myself but go pro studio can correct fisheye distortion. Instructions are on the go pro webpage.
Thanks. I might give that a try at some point.
Goin out next week with my boat onto the sound. Can u do this with real sand eels too? And if not how would u fish eels from a boat
hello ,the 4" sandeel its good for bass?
4:15 is the gear/tackle used. Spooled 30lb test spider wire stealth braid with 3 feet leader of 50lb test flourocarbon, joined to the braid with a barrel swivel.
Woah! That Reel Looks Awesome!! What Is The Name Of It?

Yeahhhhh!!! Nice video
Can I attach them to an tin or run them as a teaser as well with the non weighted ones ???
John, do you work these on the bottom, and bouncing/jigging them along, or are you swimming them?
Swim near the bottom.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing thanks! Have you tried any of the savage gear imitations by any chance? I have a bunch of 3 to 5 inch sizes in mackerel color and white/pink color... didn't know if those would be like the tsunamis (outside of the size being shorter of course)
Absolutely and those are excellent as well.
DO you use dropper loops for bucktail teasers on your rigs?

Hi friend how far you throw the line. And any particular weight? ?
