  • This video is something completely different for us. We had been struggling with our Titan Petrol Multi Tool from Screwfix not running correctly, so we managed to fix it and thought we would share the information with anyone else who might be struggling with getting their tool running properly. I was told by Titan the the fix we did cures 80% of the machines that have running problems.
    UPDATE May 2021- I used the tool for the first time this year and it started up and ran absolutely fine still.

      Hello, Thank you taking the time to make this video. From the video I contacted the helpline and I think it may be because my 4 in 1 tool was out of warranty, they didn't send my tool for free. Instead they gave me a eBay item number for a similar tool to buy. Fair enough, I'm ok with that. What I don't have is the instructions. They said th tool from eBay would have instructions but I'd rather use the ones you followed. If you don't mind please could you take a picture and share?

      Great video. Thank you for going to the effort to share it. I’ve just been able to turn that screw with a small pair of needle nose pliers, just like a baby set of cut lip pliers actually. One half in the cut out of the screw and the other half of the pliers on the outside of its housing. Mine needed ¾ of a turn to fully do the job but I only turned a ¼ of a turn at a time. Thanks again for the video, I’d give it 2 x 👍🏻if I could! Paul.

    So pleased I found this and very grateful. I was close to purchasing a new carburettor for my 2017 machine. I had completed all the steps apart from adjusting the needle valve. Fantastic video! I was going to throw my strimmer away but got it working again thanks to your instructions. I had to rotate it more than 270 degrees, but it’s working great now. I also used a dart (after removing the flight) which fitted into the hole and allowed me to get leverage to turn the “screw”.

    You're a star, I've been buying Titan's for years and in 2019 I bought a replacement strimmer during a sale, but didn't use it for over 12 months; when I eventually started it the performance was as stated in your video (starts, ticks over but dies on throttle). As it was out of warranty range I tried the usual (plug, fuel, filter...) then threw it in the back of the shed. Today I came upon your video on You Tube and called to request a service tool (they said it will be sent first class mail). I'll update my comment after the tool arrives, but thanks for the information (You'd think the suppliers would have done a video themselves!). Thanks again :-)

    Thanks so much. Top man for this video. I rang Titan support who said the fault was typical and was something to do with ethanol in fuel on the increase. ****TIP******* You don't need to get the adjusting tool. Try the open end of a suitably sized plastic rawl plug it works a treat. It has to be one of the basic plugs with a simple tubed end for the screw insertion. 90 degrees of turn anti clockwise and it works like new!

I’ve gone through each part as you suggested including tasting some petrol from the filter! and it fired up first time👍 It runs better now than it ever has over the last 3 years. Had similar problem with my McAlister, cleanout carb, new pipes and fuel filter still bogged down, turn the injector less than quarter of a turn and hey presto. Cutting through bush better than it has done for a while. So it also tells me that the carb is slowly deteriorating with time as the fuel will corrode it over time inevitably. In which case get an after market carb from eBay, yes they are from China but yes they do work as I have repaired other strimmers with them, on some models it's cheaper just to get a new carb than repair with a kit. Good video 👍

    Hi followed your instructions, adjusting the screw made it worse. Looking closer the inlet manifold was loose. You said the machine had a problem i found the manifold screws are a fraction to long allowing air to be sucked in between manifold to the barrel. So adjusting the carb was compensating for the air leak. Simple fix extra washer on mounting bolts. Hope this will help others .

Of course can never find the instruction book when needed , and its been so long since I messed about with 2 stroke motors i just kept trying and eventually the thing did start to run consistantly , so I assume it was dried oil in the carb that eventually washed clean . Defiantly will check the adjust screw . Great tip about running dry after use and for storage .

  • @mistral4303
    @mistral4303 2 роки тому +1

    Great video. I have Titan hedge trimmers which developed the same fault. The carburetor adjustment is a little different from that on the strimmer. It has two adjusters hidden under the start/run label and need what is called an Acircle tool to adjust them. I made this tool myself as it can only be bought as part of a 12-tool kit costing about £30. I started the trimmers and once I turned the outer adjustor anticlockwise the stuttering engine began to run sweetly. I think the fault was that the engine had been running too rich. It was certainly using a lot of petrol and when it stalled, it could only be started when cool again, which points to flooding. The adjuster was very easy to turn and perhaps it had turned slightly during the two years of use since I bought it. I have made a note of the position of the adjuster I so can see if this is what is happening.

      Update, phoned the helpline number and received the adjustment tool in the post the following day. Came with detailed instructions on what to do. I followed these and machine now revs freely so pretty faultless customer support. They even asked if I minded if they phoned back in a couple of weeks to see how things went 👍

    Hi really informative video, thanks! Have this tool and the engine works fine with the strimmer attachment but if i change to the hedge trimmer it cuts out after about 10 seconds! wandering if you had any idea why? Thanks jay

      @theroomofrock6456  2 роки тому +1

      My thought would be petrol starvation as the strimmer the tool is always the same way up but with a hedge trimmed you are constantly using it on it's side. I would make sure the tank pick up pipe is always in fuel and check the little filter and maybe get a rebuild kit for the carb.

    All good advice drain them and let them run until they cut out before storing them and you will have no probs

    Great video, do you how the trimmer should be greased. The manual says grease every 25 hours of use or before winter storage but does not say how to do it, thanks.

    • @theroomofrock6456
      @theroomofrock6456  3 роки тому

      The actual motor part doesn't need greasing, it is the accessories that do and they have grease nipples on them (if you look at the head of the chain saw you will see them. This means you will need to get a grease gun if you don't have one and some general or multi purpose grease. What I do when I have finished with the the hedge trimmer is spray the blades with WD40 before putting it away after every use to stop the blades rusting. If you are a home user I would think greasing the grease nipples every year would be fine. I hope this helps

      @@theroomofrock6456 Thank you. I did have a new carb arrive today but I got bored waiting so decided to strip and clean the carb then reassemble. So far it seems a lot better! I also cleaned the spark plug but will replace it soon to be safe.

    I've got a 2 year old titan and its always been fine until i started it 3 weeks ago, its now smoking. There is no smoke when cold but after about 15 seconds from starting it starts smoking. I've checked the oil/fuel mix and its correct. Any Ideas.

    • @theroomofrock6456
      @theroomofrock6456  2 роки тому

      Sometimes oil can build up in the exhaust and then start to smoke off as the exhaust gets hotter. I would make sure you are using a good quality 2 stroke oil (semi synthetic or fully synthetic) as the more modern ones tend to be low smoke. If the tool runs fine I would just tolerate it.

    Great video thank you, I have one only these and I hang mine up in the garage. I’ve noticed it’s leaking oil from the air filter and fuel comes from the same place. Could I be priming it too much? Thanks again

    • @theroomofrock6456
      @theroomofrock6456  11 місяців тому

      Could it be the way you are hanging it up, letting fuel leak out through the carb via gravity? If the machine runs fine, I would suggest draining the fuel back into a can so the tank is empty before you hang it up.

    Hi. Can I ask what is your fuel consumption per hour on this trimmer? I think mine uses way too much, almost the entire tank per hour of mowing grass 10-15 cm high with a line at medium-high speed...

    • @theroomofrock6456
      @theroomofrock6456  10 місяців тому +1

      I must admit I am always surprised how quickly the fuel goes down, but then the engine is revving quite high when you are working the tool. You could check the plug colour and see if it looks too sooty. I think if it was running too rich it wouldn't run properly. Also make sure there are no leaks and the air filter is clean.
