    You keep talking about Shawn’s drops, but he was totally pounded on it multiple times. I truly appreciate the time he has spent on mastering that shot, but if it’s not perfect and your opponent is already established at the kitchen line at the 4.0 level it’s coming back HARD.
    Leigh Waters say’s the third shot drop is a totally defensive play and if not executed to perfection at a higher level of duper it is a totally wasted shot.
    She wants to see a drive up the middle or to the backhand side of her opponent that puts them on the defensive and creates pop ups and miss hits.
    Great match. Thanks for bringing it.

      All I was trying to point out is that a third shot drop into the kitchen from behind the service line is a very difficult shot. Shawn did a great job with it. I was just complimenting him. Do you really think a drive from way back there would be more effective? Thanks for watching.

    • @douglasmurdoch7247
      @douglasmurdoch7247 Місяць тому +1

      @@pickleballpick-apart9787I do think a third shot drive is more effective which is why that’s what you see at the pro level. At the highest level you’re seeing third shot drive, in an attempt to force the popup and the crasher puts away the fifth. And if they handle the drive, then you have an easier, closer range fifth shot drop.

  • @jimh.4027

    Good match. Couple of observations:
    1. In the early part of the game, Amy kept rushing to the net on the 3rd shot, without checking to see whether Sean’s drop was good or not. She’s putting herself in a danger zone if Sean’s drop is high. Maybe she trusts her partner, who admittedly is quite good at drops, but still, a bad habit imo.
    2. A lot of dinking and dropping to the middle when Adam and Julie had their forehands in the middle. Hitting to a spot where there are 2 forehands to hurt you is not the optimal shot (unless it's a putaway shot).

    • @pickleballpick-apart9787

      Both good observations. Thanks for watching.

    • @douglasmurdoch7247
      @douglasmurdoch7247 Місяць тому

      Definitely not a bad habit. This isn’t rec. Yes it would be a bad habit if you don’t know what kind of 3rd is coming. But like you pointed out, she knows her partner, trusts her partner. At the highest levels, you definitely crash. If you stay back like a 3.5 rec player, you are going to miss out on critical offensive opportunities.

    • @jimh.4027
      @jimh.4027 Місяць тому

      @@douglasmurdoch7247 Watch ALW. She always looks at her partner's third shot before deciding to move up or stay back. That's the way to do it.

    • @douglasmurdoch7247
      @douglasmurdoch7247 Місяць тому

      @ that’s not true at all. ALW trusts Ben’s thirds implicitly, and is often already running up to crash and poach as soon as he makes contact. Same with someone like Riley Newman. Say Alshon takes the third from the right, Riley is up, crashing hard.
      The advice to cautiously stay back and only advance if you see a good drop is for 3.5s, not pros. When you know your partner’s third is going to be good 90% of the time or more, you start to aggressively crash. The worst thing that can happen is that they float something and you’re still standing back because you were scared, and miss the volley opportunity.

    For the first point, I can see why Julie choose to hit the ball to the lady in the near court instead of the guy in the transition zone though. I believe it is because the lady in yellow moved quite far into the middle to cover for her partner; therefore, Julie intention was to put the ball behind the lady in yellow. However, the ball was not fast enough to get behind her (probably because it was a back hand and Julie wanted to ensure the accuracy). As a result, the point was concluded

    The shot at 20:11 should have been called for a distraction. "3.A.7. Examples include, but are not limited to, making loud noises, stomping feet, waving the paddle in a distracting manner, or otherwise interfering with the opponent’s concentration or ability to hit the ball."

      I agree.
      On a return of serve, you 'run' to the kitchen to form a defensive wall with your partner, who is already there.
      If your partner is hitting the 3rd shot from the baseline, you shouldn't run to the kitchen because it opens a wide gap on your side that your opponents will target.
      If the ball goes high enough to your opponent at the kitchen, who is across from the player at the baseline, it will be an easy put-away in the gap.
      Excellent play on both sides. Good communication..."bounce it", "you go", etc
