Watching this as an Australian is honestly crazy- this type of application you may expect from university grads trying to find a full time job after completion, definitely NOT a high school student. You just sit a final 'big' exam at the end of your hs journey, and your weighted mark (ATAR) gives you the ability to enrol into any uni for any degree, whose mark cut offs you meet. But even then it's relaxed, so many top uni's provide extra marks for studying certain subjects, there's extra marks if you experienced difficult circumstances in hs, extra marks if your school's listed as low socioeconomic, etc AND EVEN THEN you still have a chance of getting into degrees you don't meet the cut off mark for, if the number of applicants are low and the uni needs more students in the class. Only degree's hard to get in are medicine, dentistry and law, for some obvious reasons, however regardless, every person that wants to pursue tertiary education, has a RIGHT to do so, without having to experience complete burnout and mental break downs in the process. Things seriously need to change in some countries x.x

im really late to this video but this got me in the feels. i went to an ivy league but high school was an awful rush of extracurriculars, AP classes, non-stop resume builders, and my first struggle with depression. but a really uncomfortable question i often ask myself is..."was it worth it?" im in grad school now and just now realizing stuff like "i am more than my accomplishments" "i have a personality besides studying hard" "i deserve to rest" and breaking out of the toxic mindset i was conditioned into for so long. i very much relate to the pressure to be the "perfect applicant," and it sucks that to get into a top university, you kind of have to adopt this personality or you decrease your chances of acceptance. i really wish the system wasn't like this but at the same time i have to recognize my privilege and that i am complicit in the system. like you, i was very privileged in the opportunities i had in high school and also viewed them as obligations to the expected/almost required next step of college. the privilege of going to the college i went to shaped my path to the school i'm at now and i will benefit from the university name on my resume for the rest of my life, whether i want my alma mater to matter or not.
This is relatable. For me, having an older sister who wanted to go to an ivy influenced me Also a college junior. I actually wanted to go to brown when I was in hs I would’ve been so much crazier about school had my brother, when I was in ninth grade , not told me to basically chill out. I like only wore college shirts as a ninth grader and knew the rankings by memory. Which is--- not good. And my brother basically told me to throw on some non-college clothes. Looking back. I feel very similar. We romanticize a process largely based on how the achievement looks like. And that romanization leads to colleges being able to profit (like you said).

i’ve regretted not capitalizing off of those college acceptance reaction videos too and for the longest time i wanted to make a video talking about getting into my university but because i never saw someone except hs seniors doing this, i completely gave up. this video was super informational and a huge motivator. thank you for making it :)
watching this video after so long rly brought back memories of 3 yrs ago. I remember finding Kaiti on my friends yt account and binging all her vids. seeing her saying 'if I reach 5000 subscribers' in this video after watching her surpass 500k in less than 3 yrs is honestly a blessing to see. i also agree with her points lol.
This video is so interesting to watch as a Canadian. We have some top schools that literally everyone wants to go to. But my school actually stresses that those name-brands schools aren’t everything. We have an option to transfer from college and go to those universities and we all get the same piece of paper in the end. And it’s cheaper too. The amount of pressure you’ve faced seems soo insane to me. In my school’s curriculum, we don’t even have final exams anymore. I’d rather spend my time watching Netflix lol.
I'm from India... I remember I used to wonder about foreign uni's too... And while I did work my butt off and had multiple panic attacks through highschool... I had a counselor who was always there for me. She taught me to work for my own self and not for the grades... I had a 9.6 cgpa which is above 4.0 gpa in my final year too... I got into one of the top state universities in India. And will make it through even in the top one. The pandemic really affected everything and for my family... Having cheap education is important. However I do hope I can learn and prosper as much as I can without burdening my parents. I will do my best. I cried a lot previously about universities and career fields and tbvh will do even more but let's see hahahahah... I agree tho mental health first

I really liked what you said about not forcing yourself to have a "niche" because as a high schooler you are still trying to find what you're passionate about and the extracurriculars I ended up doing weren't outstanding compared to my classmates but at least I enjoyed that time in my life and cared about what I was doing
Literally love your videos, your style, everything! So glad to see more Brown University students making videos. Now if I ever see you on campus, I'm fangirling (i'm a sophmore from Arizona). I subscribed!
unpopular opinion here but while your mental and physical well being is important- inevitably we are in a system whereby an ivy league degree can and will potentially raise ur family from debt or be a determiner for your social mobility (as it was for me, first gen college student) so if u need to grind and it's tough find ur support group and you'll get through it.
I have no idea as to why I sat through this entire video when I’m a MS3 😂 But the british accent is on point! I had no idea high schools in the states were so intense!!
Kaiti Yoo the way you said ‘awards’ legit sounded like how we say it so 👏🏽💯 dayum you did amazing in high school! So well done! Would you say, from the stage you’re at right now, that it was worth all stress during your teenage years?
Can confirm, do things because you enjoy them. I didn't have any academic ECs and didn't stress about my applications at all (honestly not enough, kinda a problem) and I still ended up in a T10. If you're meant to get in you will, and if you fake your application and don't actually fit at the school it will show even if you get accepted. AOs know what they're doing. I don't know how, but I'm honestly in awe of the class they managed to create.
Funny you say that, I have to apply to Colleges and I actually just finished having a breakdown. :) And now I'm here because I'm scared if I start working again I will cry again.

Having that mentality of “once I _____, everything will be better” is so toxic. And I am so guilty of that. You have to find happiness within and not expect some external milestone to bring you happiness
I wish I saw this in HS. I moved to the US from India during high school, and was willing to do anything and everything to get into my dream school. Years later, I have so many regrets about the torment I put myself through, even if it ultimately paid off. Wow it's so interesting to listen to the differences in the US, in the UK top universities, they really focus on super curriculars (reading around your subject) and only a tiny bit about hobbies and awards etc if they're related to the subject. :)
thank you for this I really want to get into brown, as a junior there’s a lot of things thrown on top of me and watcbing this made me feel better I guess🥲
As an argentinian this is SO WEIRD. We don´t have to do ANYTHING to get into universities here. Like... literally. I remember going in, filling a form with basic information and boom that was it. We don´t even have to pay because public schools are completely free. Not even private universities ask for such things as extracurriculars... this is very interesting
I know this was supposed to make me not make the same mistakes, but I feel worse about my stats now :/ I love you tho, I'm happy that you're mentally better

Hi! Congrats on all of your outstanding accomplishments! I was wondering what you researched for the professors at ASU - I desperately want to do research in humanities, but I feel like everyone that does research is in STEM - please let me know as soon as you get the chance & congrats again !! 🎉
For those of you who feel like you failed in life by going to a community or a non competitive college you can still get $100k+ upon graduating! Just work hard to transfer to a more accredited school or even one located near a lot of companies in your first year and then NETWORK like it’s your life! Connections lead you to internships and usually 2 on your resume or 1 at a top institute will easily get you to a high paying job! One of my college colleagues ended high school with a 2.0 and now has a $120k position in only a year after graduation because he did this :)
Honestly the fact that Brown was your worst application is probably why you got in. It's a psychological thing but you tend to find that in situations where you're like "Okay I'm not going to get that" when it comes to applications for colleges and for jobs that those are the ones you get. It makes you relax a little bit compared to the ones where you're really on edge like "I NEED THIS, EVERYTHING IS PERFECT HOW CAN THEY NOT GIVE ME THE PLACE!" You don't realise you're doing it and the person assessing you most likely doesn't realise it either but the vibe comes across.
I, who am 50 years old and only had a 2.76 GPA and went to a state college, want so desperately for Kaiti to reach 500K subscribers, now not just for herself and her deservedness but so she will do a dramatic reading of her Brown essay. I want to know what this “bad” essay that got her into Brown sounds like! Back in my day, I took the ACT and got a really high score and was glad not to take the SAT’s. The SAT’s back then didn’t have an essay portion. My GPA was low in great part due to a very hard home life and in some part due to undiagnosed ADHD. But, I just wanted to be a teacher, so a state school was all I needed anyway.
I also did that technique on the floor because I had work late at night. So, I only get to review in the morning. I sleep on the floor so that I won't oversleep and wake up super early to review. It's sad. And I won't also recommend doing it.

BeKo oh no I stress a lot about it and it’s kinda like an expectation at this point for me to get a good career and into a good college (first generation American from an Asian household tho they are very supportive) like I realize it won’t matter but rn I’m just waiting for my little bubble of stress to pop so I get to live my best life.
• Sahara • I totally get that.
I think some stress is important. But especially cause you’re worrying about it and a freshman, i really think you’ll be okay.
I’m glad they’re supportive at least. And there are def unique academic pressures in your circumstance.
I wish you the best in your college admissions process. :)
Well you only have to pay the full 60k per year if you make a ton load of money...
Which in that case, you should be good
like i am a sophomore in college already but that didn't stop me from watching this video
Yeah, I'm not getting into an Ivy League...
BRO MEEEEE AFTER WATCHING THE VIDEO
Ong... I do be tryin on the essays doe
Ikr
thank you so much for that message by the outro, also love your personality and channel. love your zest for life. you literally make me so happy, i wanna be your friend
I feel like my life is literally nothing hearing all the things she did😅
THIS IS MEEE
Same
tysm for making this video. i'm a freshman rn and the 4th part is really important to me, especially because the transition to hs hasn't been great mentally, so i'll be coming back here haha
oh man. wow. i can't EVEN JUST-
Okay. let's get coherent here.
I loved this video. I mean, i can't begin to describe how much i relate to you (the same interest in social justice and poli sci, and, as you put it, the toxic mentality to just get out of this place and it'll all be worth it someday) and i just so loved this video! i know i'm repeating stuff now but... that's kinda how much i loved this. As a UPenn aspirant, i'm saving this video to my college resources playlist RIGHT NOW, lol. Please make more college videos, i would love to get more advice on college prep from you!
Edit: also wanted to add that all of the college youtubers I've watched so far have been so science-oriented! i'm so happy to hear from a fellow humanities lover, lol
I want to see that theatrically reenacted cringey essay!! You’re at 10k!!
I remember feeling like my life was over when I ended up going to Chandler-Gilbert. The road is never straight as we can both see and now you're thriving at Brown and I'm at NYU! Plus having another friend interested in media is always a positive.
Exactly! There’s always a way up and out. #mediabrosunite
You got into NYU for your Master's degree?
i’ve regretted not capitalizing off of those college acceptance reaction videos too and for the longest time i wanted to make a video talking about getting into my university but because i never saw someone except hs seniors doing this, i completely gave up. this video was super informational and a huge motivator. thank you for making it :)
watching this video after so long rly brought back memories of 3 yrs ago. I remember finding Kaiti on my friends yt account and binging all her vids. seeing her saying 'if I reach 5000 subscribers' in this video after watching her surpass 500k in less than 3 yrs is honestly a blessing to see. i also agree with her points lol.
“Do what you really are passionate about and what you truly enjoy” would also be my advice to high school students.
as someone knee deep in the college app process rn, your advice in the end was just what i needed to hear. tysm
Wait so she got rEJeCteD from Harvard???
Fav college advice advice video ever, you're funny as heck
I agree tho mental health first
Heyy
It's already been a year since u commented .. If u don't mind me asking what major are u doing rn ? Being from India even I wonder so much about foreign Uni but it's all really tough , so my confused mind is wandering everywhere after 12th thinking what to do
Saw your outfits by major video and then this. I'm 24 and already working, but I really admire and agree with all that you shared in this video. I think you have a lot of great experience and insights- keep it up!
It’s so odd that we don’t know each other irl, but I connect to you so much, Katie! I’m a baby, an incoming hs freshman-8th grader rlly, but your advice is so helpful and engaging with your personality and sense of humor. Thank you. Just found your channel and it’s amazing.
this was really helpful, I'm planning to go to MIT and this really helps as an idea of what I should try to do in the next three years thank
you
teens in the us have to hustle HARD to get into college omg i could never imagine doing so much stuff apart from keeping my grades and myself from falling apart
I really liked what you said about not forcing yourself to have a "niche" because as a high schooler you are still trying to find what you're passionate about and the extracurriculars I ended up doing weren't outstanding compared to my classmates but at least I enjoyed that time in my life and cared about what I was doing
LOVE these vids, LOVE the college content
OMG JULIA thank you for the support :,)
Literally love your videos, your style, everything! So glad to see more Brown University students making videos. Now if I ever see you on campus, I'm fangirling (i'm a sophmore from Arizona). I subscribed!
I LOVE THIS VIDEO SM OMG. Thank you for incorporating such amazing comedy into this video ❤️❤️
You’re amazing, omg
Not only about the stats, but also the way you present info, and the sense of humor...I loooved this video!
OMG IM SO HAPPY YOU WERE IN MY RECOMMENDED ive been watching your videos for two days and im obsessed 😍
THE PoLOS why do you still have them I’m dead 😂😂
Tayler Gibbons LADIES AND GENTLEMEN THIS IS THE FRIEND WHO I WAS TALKING TO IN THE DELETED SCENE
i kept my two favorite ones 🥰 and they still be fyre fits yo
ive graduated high school for 3 years and this still brings back traumatized memories of my application....
unpopular opinion here but while your mental and physical well being is important- inevitably we are in a system whereby an ivy league degree can and will potentially raise ur family from debt or be a determiner for your social mobility (as it was for me, first gen college student) so if u need to grind and it's tough find ur support group and you'll get through it.
I will never be able to understand the U.S. high school and college education system (aka how much pressure they put on students, especially hs ones)
Man you should see the pressure students have in India.. It's brutal
And in china
I think you have never heard of IIT-JEE and GAOKOA
Lmao nah
I have no idea as to why I sat through this entire video when I’m a MS3 😂
But the british accent is on point! I had no idea high schools in the states were so intense!!
LOL REALLY? I’m honored u approve of my shoddy impersonation ✨❤️ and yes they rlly be maxing us out here
Kaiti Yoo the way you said ‘awards’ legit sounded like how we say it so 👏🏽💯 dayum you did amazing in high school! So well done! Would you say, from the stage you’re at right now, that it was worth all stress during your teenage years?
this video is so underrated, new subscriber btw
Thank you so much... this made my night. :,)
Thanks to you, I'm in college because of this video.
Ah, yes. I totally knew I was the reason. You’re welcome, truly.
You are the literal dream student. I don’t see how anyone can deny you.
I loved this video. Thank you for sharing your truth. You rock, Kaiti!
✍🏾 sleep✍🏾 on✍🏾 the✍🏾floor✍🏾 to✍🏾 get✍🏾 into✍🏾brown✍🏾
Haha I’m kidding 😭
I am low-key obsessed with you
I'm so glad I live in Europe and don't have to aply to colleges I'd die otherwise
Funny you say that, I have to apply to Colleges and I actually just finished having a breakdown. :) And now I'm here because I'm scared if I start working again I will cry again.
Broken Doll this is literally me like rn....

Take my virtual hug *hug* if you're not feeling it, take a breather. I sympathize with you, so please, take a break and do whatever you want. Watch videos, read, or anything that you enjoy. Most importantly, breathe. One step at a time okay? Get back on it when you're ready.
Thank god I am argentinian
I'm only five minutes in but I can tell that we have similar personalities and honestly I'm vibing with it
I’m literally a college graduate so there’s no point in me trying to get tips but I’m still watching cause that 👏 content 👏 is 👏 so 👏 fire 👏👏👏👏
also, big Rory Gilmore vibes, my study motivation (get some rest though)
Rory Gilmore hardly did extra curriculars so doubt she would have gotten into Yale and Harvard.
I guess im watching this for the nostalgia...graduated college (went to columbia) this year. Always wish I’d given myself more freedom to explore my interests and figure out who I was in HS. For all you kids out there, school is dumb, just do what you want and it will all work out okay :) also take a computer science class
why computer science lol??? - a student in HS
@@catstuckinabox just see if you like it! you can make a lot of money working in tech, and it's so amazing to be able to build something yourself. lots of people (esp women and BIPOC) don't think they'd be "good at it," but that's untrue!! the industry needs more diversity if it wants to continue innovating, and do so equitably and ethically
You have your whole life to become the person of your dreams, but you won’t ever get back the time when you were young, could do dumb things and grow as a person (in your teenage years).
Omg yt algorithm decided to help me out. I'm obsessed!!! Thanks for the tips
bruh you're so funny 😂 also lowkey dunno why I watched this whole vid bc I'm graduating college in a few months LoL
Not me, an already college student, stressing out about how to get into an ivy league
Just started watching your videos today and I’m hooked
I loved this, Kaiti. Thank you for the motivation and I'll keep your tips in mind. Lots of love ❤️
awh omg i read your message at 13:19 and nearly teared up
I'm a freshman already at university and having the time of my life and i so agree with you saying things will work out for the best
p.s. i found you from the dresing up as college majors video and you're my new favorite person to watch because you're so articulate, with the right touch of humor and just fun to watch.
I hope you have a great day! :)
I graduated from college like years ago and this is still a cool video. I like how you're so talented but also roasting yourself
thank you for being so honest b/c i also used to sleep in an air mattress at some point in my college life and i can't imagine that you went through this in high school. honestly i really was losing my mind at the time
this made me emo i'm a first year in college now but it's so heartbreaking seeing high schoolers become depressed to get into colleges that are just stealing your money and are ranked :/
i’m literally crying for help in whap rn why am i watching this
ur advice for not sleeping on the floor is actually good advice for me to sleep on the floor lol cuz i sleep too much and never get work done
Would you say that it was all “worth” it?? Honestly I just want to get into an ok school and follow what I enjoy lol
same! ive got like 4 weeks left of school and i just wanna get my bachelor and im good
Wow it's so interesting to listen to the differences in the US, in the UK top universities, they really focus on super curriculars (reading around your subject) and only a tiny bit about hobbies and awards etc if they're related to the subject. :)
me watching this in freshman year while my dreams of getting into an ivy league are being squashed👁👄👁
wow... so many ECs! I wish I had known abt cold emailing professors and everything before senior year haha, thank you for this vid :)
thank you for this I really want to get into brown, as a junior there’s a lot of things thrown on top of me and watcbing this made me feel better I guess🥲
i love your vlogs, gUrl!!
GIRL your room is so pretty!💕
as a recent college graduate, i still do be watchin this video
I know this was supposed to make me not make the same mistakes, but I feel worse about my stats now :/ I love you tho, I'm happy that you're mentally better
just discovered your channel a few weeks ago and i’m in love with your editing style & personality! a few questions, i’m currently a hs sophomore and i keep trying to look for work/internships to apply for, i just never qualify because of my age. where do u find these resources because i want to fill out my resume with extracurriculars, but i don’t know where to start and also covid.
Lana Liang i feel you 😔😔
same im also a sophomore going through the same struggle :(
6:48 “So doz ole my awods n scoloships.”😎
Omg i love your personality and you're so pretty ahh, could you do like an advice video on how to apply for or get scholarships?
It makes you relax a little bit compared to the ones where you're really on edge like "I NEED THIS, EVERYTHING IS PERFECT HOW CAN THEY NOT GIVE ME THE PLACE!" You don't realise you're doing it and the person assessing you most likely doesn't realise it either but the vibe comes across.
i just got accepted to oxford, but looking at ivy league videos makes getting into oxford feel easy.... this is insane
Me having recently graduated from college: I'm just here for you ma'am 😘😁👍🏾
Me an indian girl wanting to get into a Canadian uni, just soaking all the free knowledge in 😂
I, who am 50 years old and only had a 2.76 GPA and went to a state college, want so desperately for Kaiti to reach 500K subscribers, now not just for herself and her deservedness but so she will do a dramatic reading of her Brown essay.
