Love the sound of it. I love the old string machines anyway, and of course the Solina through a phaser 🥰, but I bet this would be incredible through one also
As always thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. The work you do and your channel are such an important historical resource for players such as myself who will probably never get the chance to lay their hands on these amazing keys! I really can’t thank you enough for sharing these videos with us!!
I am bery familiar with the KPM ad Bruton music libraries. My first studio work was with a production studio that recorded tons of radio and television commercials. We also produced sound tracks for corporate AV presentations.
Many thanks for demonstrating the two Godwin synthesizers. Sounds great! In fact you need at least two to get a lead violin - you never get the concert running with just one Godwin. All of the audience would say: "Why it is called Godwin Concert when there is no tutti. That's only a solo. Can't be, our reality collapses ..." It's not about smugness at all, it's about saving the orchestral reality, sir! I'm looking forward to the setup with the Leslie-speaker. Fader controls are a fine thing which I like, too. Maybe because used to the equaliser interface from the first stereo since I was young? All the best :-)!
I've read your article about the fixing. Massive help, thanks! My stringorchestra misses only one note, the G5 ont he viola (G6 on chello) Are you certain, that this is also the top octave chip? I checked and there is already the replacement chip on the board you mentioned.
Im suprised that the chorus is quite mild for a string machine. The sliders are good in a live situation for a expression control, a substitute for a touch response or aftertouch.
Anyone know the difference between the 249 and the SC749 ? They look identical. . . . . [EDIT] (got this from a German website), from what I can tell the '249' is a typo, it appears in a few references on the internet, probably all stemming from the same place, but the actual model is called the 749, there is no 249.
@@organfairy Well, most string synths like the ARP Solina, to my knowledge were paraphonic, having single-triggered envelopes across the entire keyboard. Individual VCAs are usually premium in this.
@@eddievhfan1984 I have heard a lot of these too - they sound odd to me, coming from the organ world. It's probably down to what the designers of the string machines were used to make: If they came from the organ world they tried to make it polyphonic but a synth designer would go for the paraphonic design. I had a organ once that had a small circuit board for each key, containing two simple diode based VCAs (actually it was a voltage controlled clipper) - one for the organ voices and the other for the piano(ish) voices, and each had their own simple envelope generator. 44 little circuit boards side by side in a tiny rack next to the tone generator board.
Given the interest in these "vintage" instruments, you'd think somebody would bring out a modern clone - trouble is, it would probably be (ugh) Behringer.
Impressive sound.
I am looking a service manual for the Godwin Symphony 849. symphony 849.
Sorry we don't have that. Have a rummage around on the internet and see what you can find. Good luck!
It amazing how you can get a string sound out of these brilliant vintage instruments.

Nice sounds, btw. String machines are very limited but add something really haunting
Another great video. Much appreciated knowledge. 👍👍👍👍👍
Amazing strings for the age of the instrument Wow !!!

Sounds great!
Thanks Nicolas!
Crumar Performer modulation section gives a similar effect to the Godwin one
Had the 849 version for many years..extra solo brass and string sections....still sublime sounding with a decent reverb..

Hi thanks for the message - send me a message via my website vintagekeysstudio.com (I offer online consultations there) and we can talk further :)

Synths need to bring back these color schemes
have you ever considered making samplers of some of your rarer synths
Yes I have. There is an ongoing project with an engineer in Manhattan. Watch this space!
Doh! Music stand against the microphone. 😂😅 Nice sound, finally a synth with few enough buttons. Thank you great work.
Cheers - the mic was unfortunately placed, but does the job fine - was about 2mm away from stand haha!
@@VintageKeysStudio I recognised the symptoms having done it live too many times myself. You would think I would learn!
@@VintageKeysStudio PS.... Still an excellent video.
Looks like a Crumar Performer, another string synth from the '70s.

I do like your videos. They are even weirder than mine :D :D
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A string synth with individual envelopes for each note? WITCHCRAFT!!!!!!
Nah, basic organ technology 🙂

The Logan string melody has individual ad envelopes for all keys. I am just have on on my bench. Water damage... But it's coming along.
Looks like the music rest was touching the mic so every key touch comes with a loud clunk 😵💫 Otherwise really nice vintage strings sound
Looks like it was, but it wasn’t! Do you hear a loud clunk?
@@VintageKeysStudio Listening with headphones, yes. thump thump thump. Love your videos!
Yes, but it’s actually the sound of the keys being played, not acoustic transferral through a stand touching a mic
I might make a video of thumping next ;)
Sorry, Gain Piero who?
Giampiero Boneschi

The behringer ones are actually not bad and very well built. They are halfway between the real thing and a plug-in
The Waldorf Streichfett and STVC are also vely good
Mk50240? 😂
Yes, the little blighter!
@@VintageKeysStudio I found a Logan string melody mk1 in the flea market. Water damage. But all chips ok I think. Starts to sound about right now.
