Honestly, I miss the breakdown of each category in the Doug Score. It was interesting to see WHY Doug gave each score.
He would literally contradict himself and repeat the same lines over and over.
Honestly, his scores were nonsense.
Let’s go
Doug has become lazy recently
I miss his second channel too, more doug demuro
@@0thers1d3 that's point
@@nimish2073 He basically uploads more doug de muro videos on his main channel now .
So rare when a car company listens to its fans in the modern age. We should truly appreciate this.
Would rather buy a 400z
I think this was more or less planned from the beginning
@@crymitch8590 May I ask why?
Because Nissan pushed them to do it.
If they listened, they wouldn't have rebadged a BMW.
Thank you, Doug, for taking the time and driving home the point that manual transmissions still have value in today's sports cars. Even if they were late to the party, Toyota deserves recognition for listening to enthusiasts and adding the option to their flagship icon. Hopefully, they'll even learn a lesson for next time!
The biggest issue with manuals is that the community loves them and loves to talk about them... the idea of manual is what makes a sports car. But when it comes to folks that show up with money to actually buy, not enough buy them vs the rave and hype. 🤷🏾♂️ Guess its gotten better over the past decade or so cause companies are bringing them back for a last hoorah.
BMW or not, they’re pretty rare where I live and every time I’ve seen one sitting at a stop light, everyone’s staring. Definitely one of the most eye catching affordable cars on the road right now, and I’d bet they’re a lot of fun to drive.
As someone who owned a 2021 3.0 Supra, I can confirm they're a blast to drive. Really regret that I had to sell mine but I'll be getting another one(likely manual this time) cause I enjoyed the car so much lol
Yea i got about 5 of them in my town. Ran my buddys launch edition with my C7 Z51 stock v stock, smoked him. He threw on a dp and tune/trans tune on e40... yea he took me to GappleBees lol
Cool story. Not going to stop it from falling apart at 40,000 miles like every BMW.
@@someguy5035 "cool story" what are you? 12?
I'll take "moron who doesn't know what he's talking about" for 500, Alex.
They're great track cars too, they can put down some really quick laps. Someone in my region has been smashing SCCA class records with a supra.
Really hope Toyota chooses to offer the Supra in a green color for at least one year. Seeing the return of something like Imperial Jade Mica would be sweet.
There is a Supra MK5 in my neighborhood which has a green color to it, more like lime green but damn it was sexy.
Totally agree. Green ftw
Or like the British Racing Green they had for the last gen 86.
Wish bmw gave it isle of man green
Bro YES. Iconic color
I can only imagine how much markup there will be on those special editions
A local dealer wanted almost 80k for one. Another one was being sold for about 100k in Florida.
That’s still not as bad as the new z
$15k over MSRP for a manual a91
@@oren6488 yeah, i had a dealer trying to sell me the sport model for well over 60k... bruh
I just don't see it happening here in NW Indiana where the weather is crap and cars like this are frowned upon in the snow, so they are exceedingly rare. I've seen MAYBE 2. I have a home just outside of Phoenix and I see them all of the time while there and I can see the dealers gouging people there.
These have so much presence on the road, they truly are one of the most eye-catching vehicles out there. Amazing they added a manual option.
They look good from a distance but the body lines ruin it for me. The Ft1 concept looked 100x better
@@Joe-vx8fd if they used the ft1 concept this would be a 100k dollar car lmfao
I saw photos & videos and didn’t like it at all. But having seen them in the flesh, I actually like the way it looks.
It's actually fairly attractive in the metal. Still not the prettiest, but that's a tall standard anyway
definitely the best looking non-exotic front engined car out
As a motorsports fan and love rally, a gauge cluster indicator of gear selection is very important and I love it.
The 6 cylinder engine in the Supra, named the B58, is a very reliable engine, and it’s ironically been called the modern 2JZ.
What’s the oldest one out there now?
@@lawnmowerdude According to Wikipedia, it was first used in the 2015 340i.
I have a Supra GR 3.0, but it's auto. As an owner, the BMW plastic components in the powertrain still make me feel uneasy😬, radiators with plastic fail points, plastic oil pump, plastic injectors, plastic cylinder head cover, plastic oil pan, plastic charge pipe, plastic intake manifold (that one is ok), so much eventual disintegrating plastic.
@@Yggdrasill8 this is such an interesting comment as it makes me curious as to why you purchased the Supra? I have to imagine the driving experience for you made it worth it?
@@kiburebuc so reliable means .. history only from 2015 to 2022? Pshaw. 15 years min history imo before they can call it reliable. Most cars from 2015 won't even be at 100k miles ...
The manual transmission is exactly what this car needed to become one of the best sports cars of the modern era

Yep, can't believe it didn't come with one at launch, but at least they did release one maybe it'll get them some extra sales, but it should have been earlier.

Except It sounds like an automatic from all the rev hang... How the hell is that lovely? You people are ruining enthusiast cars by continuing to be infatuated with this neutered nonsense.
The part about the rev matching reminds me of my 85 supra it wants you to go in to each gear right away when you up or down shift it's actually something I always love about driving it though if you're good at it it feels as smooth as an automatic 😂
The first generation accord in 1976 had an additional "5 speed" badge on them when you got the manual transmission. The 2 door hatchbacks were really great looking cars.
14:19 So is no one going to talk about how Doug showed off the DougScore for the GR Corolla even though the video where he drives it isn't here yet?
FINALLY, a manual. Now the ten people that have been clamoring for it can continue to not buy it while they complain about all the other cars that don't have a manual that they also won't buy.
You're very wrong, they decided to do this because car dealers kept reporting clients asked for a manual version of this car.
I was shocked when Toyota released this. When I was playing Forza Horizon 5, the car I chose at the start was the new Supra and I naturally kept the "transmission" in manual once I learned how to "shift" on fh3 for all vehicles. I just never thought Toyota would put a stick in the Supra. I thought they could've not gone with a rotary dial and narrowed the tunnel. Great review as always Doug.
I wouldn't buy this car without the manual, so now that we have a manual I'll buy it, but I think I'll just go with the automatic (says most buyers)
Yep. Bunch of HYPOCRITS
reminds me of people getting mad at companies for discontinuing wagon models but they only sold like 3 of them .

@@rudgerscumberland9837 untrue. Smaller trucks would sell well. Regulations killed them.
Earlier today, my neighbor across the street (who owns a stick shift WRX) asked me if I wanted to learn how to drive stick in his car, since neither of his kids want to learn. I quickly took him up on the offer, and I've already driven a vintage stick shift tractor once, so I at least know how to work a clutch. I'm looking forward to learning, and hopefully someday I'll be able to afford a big block 4-speed C3 corvette.
That’s super cool! My dad taught me as a 12yr old on a Nissan Z. Good memories ❤
@@oren6488 Neato! One thing I find funny about this whole thing though, is that there are 3 WRX's on my street. His is a completely stock 4th gen, another is (unfortunately) a riced Hawkeye with a straight-pipe and way to much turbo flutter, and the third is a bone-stock blobeye that I haven't seen move in years.
Oh no 😂 What do you think about the power of the 4th gen?
@@oren6488 Never even sat in it before, so I can't say much.
Ahh
Thanks for keeping me informed in the car world Doug. I used to hate the new Supra but now I understand it.
Doug's channel is really interesting in that his editing and shooting hasn't really become more fancy. I think it works very well for his content, because the channel runs on his personality with minimal editing.
WOW. i commented on your old video if the supra was finally getting a drive, and then its here!
Saw this color at the LA Auto Show yesterday and maybe it was just the hall lights but it looked really good. It's hard to unsee the fact that this is a Z4 with a Toyota shell over it but I can overlook that with how much better the Supra body looks over the Z4 and how good the car generally is as an all arounder.
calling this a z4 with a supra shell is still such a sin. the z4 and supra are two totally different cars in the way they drive. a bodykit does not change the way a car drives, so why do people call the supra a z4 with a different body? its a completely different experience.
Yea, watch the comparison videos between the Z4 and the GR Supra. They are completely different cars and the Supra outperformed the Z4 in every category. They don’t even make the same amount of power with the same engine.
@@antriggs4190 didn’t Toyota tune BMWs engine against their wishes and that’s why it makes more horse?
Manufactured in the same plant as the Z4, same engine, same chasis. BMW interior and electronics.
Even though this is not exactly a Z4, this car is still a BMW. Kudos to BMW for creating such a good, fun sports car
@@GaryKetchum808 No, BMW's contractor makes it. Toyota has no ability to tune it "against BMWs wishes."
this car actually looks so darn stunning
it really does
It's hard to look at this car in isolation considering it's heritage, but if you do, what you see is an absolutely gorgeous vehicle.
This blue looks so good! 💙
A two door, two seat front engine car always looks good. All the styling they did was to make it look worse, as it is totally overstyled.
And b58 is better than jz too
I agree with Doug's comparison to the GM product strategy. Next year we'll see an available removable sport roof, then the following year maybe a tall MK4 reminiscent rear spoiler, then the following year in order to breathe new life into the model, a more powerful engine with a second turbo. Then and only then will car buyers feel they'll have all the features of the original MK4 Supra turbo.
Been waiting forever for this review, Doug. Liked, now watching…
In the last 10 years i have been watching Doug's video and I am not sure if this is the video with the most "Damn". Love it.
Caught me off guard, too!
Finally! This thing is one step closer to stepping out of the shadow of the MK4! I love that blue. If I could snag one of these in this blue with a nice tan interior like the one in the manual limited edition that would be the MK5 I would want
Stepping out of the shadow of the MK4 is gonna be near impossible, with how iconic, tunable and infamous the MK4 is.
@@l04d83no kidding. I think that the manual is a positive step in that direction. I grew up with the real Supra, and my first real experience with them was a 1991 Supra Turbo

I bought a Fiat 124 spider with a manual transmission this past spring. It tells you on the dash what gear you're in. I never had that before in a car but I'm now a fan. Sometimes I need to be reminded when I'm distracted.
@ 8:13. Very much so. When the car was launched, I remember at least one automotive journalist reporting that Toyota's product planners mapped-out an update schedule to help ensure sales remain consistent throughout the car's life-cycle.
When I was looking into getting a gr86 a few weeks ago one of the managers had purchased the A91 supra and let me take a look at it in the shop. I have drove the 2018 M2, with a manual gearbox and as you said, before that gearbox, I hated the BMW's manual gearboxes (so imprecise ). But the gearbox on the the M2, was the best I ever saw on BMW models. I remember also that I drove a E39 M5, with a manual, but hade a short shifter that changed things around. The thing about the new Supra is it doesn't look great on paper. If you just read horsepower numbers and see it's an automatic you were probably like nah. I did that. It wasn't until Subaru discontinued the STI that I started looking around. I had my eyes on a Lexus IS 500 F Sport but those are pretty unobtainable. The dealers I talked to were telling me straight up, expect a big mark up. Then I called one dealer and he said he didn't have the Lexus but had a yellow Supra. I wasn't even going to go see it but once I went to go see it and couldn't unsee it. It is a beautiful car in person and blew my mind when I drove it coming from 20 years of Subaru WRXs and STIs. It was nice to be back in a RWD car after all this time, even if it was an automatic. Maybe I will go for the manual one day but this is my daily driver and its nice to have a break from the clutch leg in rush hour.
The countdown to Dougcember is on.

You can tell Doug learned the word “damn” today
I have to ask. With how much you drive different cars how often do you stall them or if ever
Everyone: Nah, just another z4
Doug: Time to make the 4th review
Everyone forgets that the last generation 340i (F30 with B58) was offer limited with manual transmission (globally), which this manual is most likely adapted from. Probably not adapted from the Z4 base manual.
Sedan, RWD and manual, my favorite combo.
Smh who cares where it's "adapted from". They most likely engineered it on its own, and those engineers are probably disappointed thinking, "are we a joke to y'all?" Just be glad that Toyota decided it build it.
This transmission is reportedly a combination of parts of other BMW transmissions cobbled together by Toyota for this application specifically.

Honestly throwing in the tunability of the car is important. Downpipes, exhaust, tune and your immediately around 600whp. The b58 engine is super tunable for higher power. One of the few cars on the market that can do that for that cheap.
people dont realize but the 2jz has been out for 30 years, there is a reason they are so tunable, its just been out for longer and more time to research it.
