Guild Starfire I Jet90 Demo

- Roaring to the lead of the pack comes an all-new contender: the Starfire I Jet90. Born from the iconic Guild models of yesteryear and raised with rebellious, free-spirited individuality, the Starfire I Jet90 combines the classic Starfire body shape with the slick, rugged aesthetic of Guild’s vintage 6 in-line headstock. Three Guild Franz P90 pickups anchored to a chambered mahogany center block have this baby primed for everything from crisp, vintage jazz tones to open-throttle overdrive. The six-way rotary switch allows players to dial in their preferred P90 combination for the right amount of bite to any riff, while switch position indicator pins (in the style of 1950’s Guilds) help keep the player on track. The Starfire I Jet90 comes equipped with a Guild Vibrato Tailpiece and Tune-o-matic bridge for added tonal expression and range of playability. Comes in satin black, satin white, and satin gold top.

R.J always plays the right tune for the guitar he is demoing. It shows the guitar in its best light. It also shows how good of a player he is, and a master of his craft!!
Oh my god. I just found the guitar I've been looking for forever.
Come on over to my channel and watch my review. After a little work, I'm Smitten by this guitar.
I think ... 🤔🤔🤔 Before making the purchase ... LEARN HOW PLAY 😏😏😏 !!!
ANY player could get those sounds in any instrument.
@@virgiljjacas1229 If someone is at the point where their desired instrument is a guild hollowbody with 3 p90s, it’s probably safe to say they’ve played enough to know what they’re after.
No amount of practice is gonna make a strat, tele, or les Paul, sound or feel like this guitar.
I want to play one really bad, havent found one yet. but for the money looks like it could be a lifer
This guy is just freak'in awesome! What a player! Christ if only I can play this good! Guitars are awesome in all colors! Of course it's a Guild. Guild has been killing it lately!
R.J. Ronquillo is a beast.
Wow, did not expect this to sound that good with the high gain even-that’s nuts!
They are especially organic sounding with the gain on I have found because of the harmonics that reverberate from the hollow body.
I love everything about this guitar, nice looks, nice tone, retro.
I got one in big part because of this demo and does everything he shows here.
Holy smokes! Even for you guys that’s an absurdly cool guitar!!!
What do you mean by that qualifier, "even for you guys"?
@@markkeneson6806 That I find Guild guitars in general to be very cool but this one especially so.
@@LJN71, oh ok. It sounded like a backhanded compliment the first time I read it. Sorry.
@@markkeneson6806 no need to apologise my friend! I’m only happy to clarify.😀👍
Blimey--I just sat mesmerised for 5 minutes. RJ is phenomenal and the tones from the guitar are fantastic. This one is definitely going on the "need to buy" list.
Get one - I got one based on this and no regrets. All 6 pickup selections are usable which is very rare indeed. Usually I like one or 2 but not the others.
Such a great player
Soooooo good. I love your playing. You really bring out the potential in these guitars.
What a class! Great player, great sound, great 🎸
Amazing guitar, and the test pilot is just great!
I recently bought one of these guitars, I wanted the black, but the black sold before I could get it so I got the gold even though I'm not a fan of the cream color, especially since all the other plastics are black, so I thought I would just swap out the covers with some other p-90s I have laying around, but NOPE! these pickups are designed in an almost upside down format they do not use the 2 screw method for mounting, and are larger than standard p-90s so covers from other brands will not fit. there is one screw in the middle that holds the cover on only. once you get that off, you can see that the pickup is mounted to a base with four screws into the wood, I haven't gone so far as to take that out yet, because I'm pretty happy with the look without the cream covers, a bit more gnarly and mean looking. anyway just thought I would mention this because I haven't seen it anywhere else. the bobbins are hexagonal and they have the holes for 2 screw mounting but they are literally upside down and apparently they use screws mounted from the other side in those holes to mount them on their baseplate. what this does to the tone, I'm not sure, I love the sound of these, I would like a little bit more heat from the bridge but pedals get you there. I would like to hear from Guild or any other owners that have insight.
Great sounding guitar, awesome musician
The white one is so sweet!
Agreed!
Man this is a fabulous video for several reasons! I love that piece starting on 2.00
Feels like an age since we last saw you RJ. Great licks as always
This guitar seems very versatile! Great playing R.J .
Awesome tones
Love this guitar! Super versatile! Only the tuners are very bad. Changed them for some good quality locking tuners and swapped the bridge for a roller. Now it's perfect!
Asian built guitars are some of the best, I never thought I’d say that.
Just been reading about these! RJ had just sealed the deal. Wow that's a gorgeous guitar. Super slick picking. 🔥🏁
I have yet the star jet model, a solid body with mini humbuckers. Now I want this one, the sound versality is incredible.
This Guild sounds absolutely fantastic & is beautiful too!
RJ could play a chicken bone, and tasty R&R, or blues would come out!
Well done! Wow! This helped a lot, I've been looking around and wasn't sure if I'd like the Jet 90, so your video was helped!
Oh that's interesting! Like the aesthetics and the rotary switch.
Looks like a real winner. Great player too.
Sweet tone! I think I gotta get one of these. Killer!
great playing
Wow! Well done!
Love the retro vibe and the flat finishes. I can see the black with some hot rod stripping. May be my next purchase.
Nice tasteful player.
RJ, that is some playin' !
Need one of these!
Great Video, thanks for showing all three. Great playing
Very nice 👍🏽
Would love to see you cover Mike Bloomfield, maybe Albert's Shuffle or Stop off Super Session. Just seems like it would be in your cosmic wheelhouse.
Smokin and well tasty guitar playing too
Rj always brings the best out of any guitar..this 1s so cool..looks n sound..pretty n mean all in 1
☑️ nice guild does it right 👍 absolutely love P90's on hollow and semi hollow bodied ‼️☻️😎
Ronquillo is a badass player!!
Your badass now i want one
Winner winner. Just found my next guitar. Would love to see some in that metallic green guild do but in satin.
excellent (as usual)
i think i'm in love
Thanks in no small part to this outstanding demo, I bought this guitar. I was scared that RJ made it sound too good with his skillful guitar work and happily found out the guitar itself is outstanding. The pickups sound very throaty, organic and full just like any high quality P90's (believe I read they're Alnico2's). 6 way selector is super cool and does every option but all 3 pickups together. I love a trem so the Bigsby addition is just perfect. AND because of the headstock design, the strings are a straight pull from the nut slots with no tuning issues even after Bigsby use. Not sure why they put 11's on this guitar new as I'll switch to 9's. Fit and finish great - no fret sprout - no mods needed of any kind. Only drawback is there are only 20 frets and so the high fret access is also limited. If you're a singing guitarist or a rhythm player, this guitar is great. If you play a lot of lead this might be your 2nd guitar for certain songs when gigging like the Petty type stuff etc.
Any problems with the selector I keep reading that it comes loose?
@@lefuzzyfern9386 Knock on wood so far it is working great and has not come loose. Thanks for letting me know and I will be wary of that in the future. Solid click in place and feels substantial to me.
R.J. your playing is off the chain dude! Guild has really grabbed my attention lately with all these cool retro designs, unanimous agreement on build quality and great price points. I love watching old archival footage from the electric blues era and seeing those greats using strange and esoteric gear, like Muddy Waters and his Guild T-Bird. I expected the Starfire Jet90 to do blues overdrive well, and R.J. demonstrated as such, what I didn't expect was that bitchin 80's metal riff thrown into the mix and how damn good it sounded!
Guild makes the best guitars around imo
My mind is 🤯!!!
how nice of Guild to make a signature guitar for me.
Guild is doing well. Before I can play a stafire I series DC Pelham blue then this .....so wow
Hey, R.J. Hadn't seen you in awhile...which is my bad. Great picking (as usual)... and very cool Guilds...
Me wanna have that Goldtop!
Going after the Trini Lopez/Dave Grohl Gibson I see. Sounds epic! Definitely will be seeking one out! :)
What other work has R.J. Ronquillo done besides this? Fantastic.
Yes 👍👍🎸😎
What a player he is! Where are these made?
Tasty as usual RJ
What was the pedal amp combo on that opening lick!?
RJ is one of the best all around guitar players on the internet, hand down
I loved the guitar and I want to demo it at my local store. However, R.J. barely touches that Guild trademarked Bixby vibrato (it's a vibrato, not a tremolo, big boy), which tells me lots about its tuning stability. Maybe with some Slick Nutz lube... but I feel that it won't be stable enough and I'll be mad because of it.
When are these available in the U.K?
Do I waste my savings on this? I love retro wackiness. I got a supro tritone but been wanting a semi hollow and love p90s
Pretty sure this is my next guitar. Anyone know if Guild makes a case that will fit?
I'm using a soft shell hollow body gig bag with mine and well padded.
What does it sound like clean for a jazz tone without the tone rolled off
What’s the tuning like when using the trem??
A Starfire has been on my GASlist for years (since I saw Duke Ericsson of Garbage playin' one) but now I think it's finally the time. 650 € street price for this marvel is just the offer I can't refuse.
BTW, UA-cam, can you please ban R.J. from demoing any more guitars? ;-) That man made me spend more money on guitars than what can be considered healthy. And I cannot even play! :-D
I have one of the gold models. I thought id have to replace the pickups but after adjusting their height, they sound increible.
Its my main guitar and i have a real gibby!
Same problem here.. How do you change the heighf?
I can increase the pole pieces but only too some extent.
@@okwang90210you need to remove the single screw in the middle of the pickup
Take the cover out
There will be four screws attaching each pickup to the body of the guitar
You will need to shim them.
I have cardboard under mine.
I have them each at 1/16” from the string last fret
Thanks a lot, i will try that
Love these geetarz and let’s seee.....your freakin playin is dad gum completely off thu dad gum chain my manRJ. I need to buy your cook book😂
You can any guitar in Rj's hands and it sounds good Wich proof that the it's not the guitar that make the sound.
👍
Great guitar, but a shame you can't get the forbidden tone one this. That would be a great sound to have on this guitar.
Any albums out?
The guitar is absolutely cool! Naysayers of the headstock are stuck in a rut. To have the same old 3+3 standard headstock makes this guitar just another single cutaway semi. Lost in a crowd of cookie cutter guitars. Add the bold satin finish, this guitar is an attention getter! Only other guitar that it shares styling points with? The Epiphone Dwight Yoakum Casino.
The straight string pull because of the head stock design keeps the guitar in tone even with Bigsby usage.
How did you get one of these?
When and where can we find this beauty? Talking about the guitar.
Lol

position 7: all 3 pups? i wish
Yes, I was thinking that very same thing as I watched this video.
I just got a black one. Feels great, sounds and plays great too. The only con I have is the headstock is hideous. I keep thinking about how I could reshape it.
you know how to sell a guitar, i hope guild gave you what you deseverd , cause you deserved it! ive bough it
It's so nice yet unusual that I'm thinking I need one. Should I sell my 1966 Starfire lll to finance it?
No
Phil X meet RJ
There's a familiar face
American made ?.... and how $$$$ ?
I don't believe any of their electrics are American made right now. So, overseas....but I can't remember if they do them in China, Korea or Indonesia.....one of the three, though.
@@Tull1996 Indonesia for the "I" series Starfires

これは…セミアコらしさは皆無ですね。
Sounds great, but that headstock is hideous -- just doesn't go with an archtop.
Trombonology Erstwhile Totally agree. I love the rest of the guitar, it's wonderful and so is his skill in demoing it. But the headstock should be traditional..... What the hell were they thinking...?
Sorry, got to disagree. Nobody is usually more traditional than me when it comes to design but I like it! Guild have used it before on other models.
@PNCH NZS Amen
Yeah looks great. Gives it a rock & roll vibe.
@@GuildGuitarsUSA I love head shape and P90 pups which I never play but actually its under my focus to complete my collection as I have Gibson LP, Squire strat (1995), Musicman Armada and now I want this baby :D. Guys how easy I should bend the strings? Issue is that I cant try one before buy. I had Dangelico which had sweet tone but bending was just difficult and didnt stay in tune at all even without any tremolo. Pls be honest . thanks a lot
Please send good stocks of this guitar and not crap. Thanks
those tom toms are awful turn them off. cant hear the bloody axe
What ARE you on about???
One ugly guitar but great player
Ugly? The things got mojo! It's a beauty.
I frankly love the look of my black one - get a lot of compliments on it. I assume you are sketchy on the headstock maybe? Not sure what else looks wise would bother you. It's vintage Guild headstock design.
That is one ugly guitar. I love Guild, I own Guilds but this is a shocker 😟
I like that looks different then the others 😉.
Apparently polarizing look per the headstock. I personally love the looks of my black one and get a lot of compliments on it.
THIS DUDE THAT LOOKS MORE LIKE A SHOT CALLER, THAN THE GENIUS PLAYER HE IS, IS A MASTER. WOW!
