It's not just AEW that has trouble booking the chase and botching the follow up. The WWE has proven this multiple times (Rollins 2018, Becky 2019, McIntyre 2020 come to mind).

I remember in 2020 when JD called Rollins a little bitch for not wanting to work with Matt Riddle over a disparaging post Riddle's wife made aimed at Becky that JD tried to downplay as not being directly about her. Riddle himself didn't condone the post & sincerely apologized to Rollins at Survivor Series that year, something not revealed until 2021. To see JD in the years afterwards turn around & call Rollins an MVP is a beautiful thing.
Can you blame Rollins for not wanting to work with him? The rock didn't want to work with Shawn Michaels because of what Michaels said about the anoa'i family back in the day. You should never disrespect other people's family.

I'm a bit surprised they're really putting Cody on SmackDown. Why? The Fox deal is over, they're not getting renewed, why put the top champion on the B show? SmackDown can go about a year without a world champ because RAW did.
He's the champion of smackdown? Raw has its own champion? When raw went without a champ, there wasn't two champs.
Smackdown is moving to USA network this fall and they want Cody on that show. They loved having him on Raw.

I’d rather a heel Cody post Summerslam win over The Rock. Roman asking Cody for help against “The Final Boss” and his Bloodline. And Cody turns on him, saying something like, “I finished my story when I pinned you at Mania, you don’t get to have another chapter in my story”.
Or he says "I told you I would take everything from you" and he's revealed as the new tribal chief. Turning the bloodline into a sort of Bullet Club type of faction.

Everything just feels completely insignificant until Summerslam. Rhea going out made things even worse. Now we have a Becky title reign no one wanted, and none of these guys like AJ Styles for one second seem like anything more than a box check opponent to fill a PPV. Bayley, while certainly deserving, was only interesting in trying to overcome her former stable mates. As a face champion, she is like watching paint dry.
CM Punk needs a corporate Heel run, a heel/tweener faction, and a longtime storyline of a three way feud between Punk, McIntyre, and Cody.

Let us be real, the only plan Cody could have is against Randy Orton. But how soon do you want to push that story? So between now and then I do believe it is hard to give Cody plans. Cody was mainly over because of his story. Without that story Cody needs to figure out who he is as a champion.
If they're 'taking a breather' w/Cody, then get a good story/direction pretty quickly... cool.
Now if w/Rock, Roman, etc., going away post-WM... If Cody, as champ, gets blamed for a dip after they were white-hot... That's F'd up.

Usually WWE doesn’t have plans for wrestlers who won their first WWE champion. It's always been that way. They did it to guys Kofi, Big E, Drew McIntyre, Lashley, AJ Styles, HBK, Rollins, Undertaker, and Miz. Mostly it happened to the ones whom the fans advocated for to win the title.
I agree with everything you said about Seth Rollins and i wish more people would realize just how great he is in the ring, as a performer, as a storyteller and how much of a sacrifice he made this WM season. He not only put his health aside, wrestled two nights with a torn meniscus *how he survived that pain i have no idea*, put on a great show and was the most important part of Cody finishing the story on Night2.
I'm not surprised Rollins re signed, maybe I'm reaching a bit far but he should be out the rest of the year and heal up, return at the royal rumble and win. He can fued with either Drew McIntyre again or Gunther or get the match with punk we couldn't get this year

If these wrestling companies don’t have any storylines in between the big PLEs, then they should just close up shop for these months and have shows only leading up to the big 4 PLEs. We have seen quality dips drastically after Wrestlemania.

Just don’t buy the idea that HHH doesn’t have any direction for Cody. You have AJ styles currently. I think you have him go against Logan Paul eventually whenever Logan drops the US title, plus the inevitable Randy Orton story. And the rock at summer slam which seems likely as of right now. So that’s four right there that Cody can do great stuff with.
But there is zero angle involved with AJ. It feels like a filler feud.

That's the problem when u try to have long title reign, this is why wwe needs to slowly transition into 4-6 months title reign rather than year long title run unless there's those ocassional totle reigns that works long term. But it was with roman too that only big 4 ppvs matches where it felt like big deal and the rest were fillers where u were just expecting a good match. With Roman they bad an interesting character and compelling bloodlone storyline so i uope they find something compelling that can run long term so the filler feuds has something in them too

Between 3 months to 1 year should be a title reign, but most importantly is the AMOUNT OF title defenses. Let‘s say Raw WHC we have 4/5 raw shows in 1 month plus a PLE the champion should defend it 3 out 5 times in a month at best. That‘s why Seth Rollins championship run was great without being too stale.
