You give such a realistic view of being a chateau owner. Mine was always, as I sat by a fire in a comfy chair, reaching over to a side table and ringing a little bell to tell the maid to bring me a snack and a drink. Now I know I really need a chainsaw and a backhoe! Haha! Always love your channel!
Yep the pipes come with the Territory Paint hides pipes perfectly I’m with you Phill …free heating Is the best ❤❤ Boy what a relief …the chipper …it lives again … Well done 👍
People, the radiator pipes were a retrofit on the original building a long time ago, and there is no way to fit the pipes in the granite structural walls, or lower them under the floor. Looking at the drawing room, the pipe is painted the same color as the wall it follows. It really isn't a problem, it's a feature. It's good you are mechanical, Phil, because that has been the chipper from hell. Well done!
Well done Phil! Super mechanic strikes again. If you can get that machine to make your own pellets you will be in heaven. Ours get delivered straight to the 6 ton silo and we have never been warmer. The installers wanted us to have it on all night but it was too hot. Instead it comes on at 6. 30 and goes off around 1030 pm So easy empty the ash once a month. Magic
Congrats on getting the wood chipper working. Free fuel to heat your chateau is well worth the effort. Fresh paint will greatly improve the look of the pipes. 🙏🇨🇦🎄
Most old stone buildings have the same problem, so if the piping and the conduits are installed neatly and painted to blend with the surfaces they pass over, they will look just fine. No one expects you to pretend it's still the eighteenth century.
Phil you could paint the pipes in the colour of the walls or floors depending on where the pipes are plumbed in , but you need to do a proper job the first time so you don't have to fix it at a later date .
For the pipes you could give it a chateau look by building a slight shelf, just over the pipes. For the thickness of the pipes, they look to be under 2 inches thick. With a little grate like front underneath the shelf that goes down to the floor. Voila you get the heat and hide the pipes. I hope this gives you some ideas. Thanks for the great work you are doing with the vlogs.
You’re a man of many talents. Good call regarding the pipes, they are just a normal part of the building. If you restore the building to its original form, you would have to use the fireplaces to heat. Good call.
Hide the pipework? Quite the contrary! Make it as visible as can be! Painted the right colour - I would paint the pipes a cast iron mat black with bronze connecting elements- it can actually be a stunning decorative feature and absolutely in keeping with the age of the building.
If you had modern heating then yes it would be nice to have the pipe work hidden, but to see all those lovely thick pipes attached to those beautiful radiators, just looks perfect, I love them. Good job you are such a clever mechanic, it’s fab to see you mending things and making them work again, I look forward to watching the process of seeing you making your pellets. Have a great evening. K🇬🇧❤️❤️
All thoseexposed pipes would really contribute to the dry warmth of the walls. Its part of the history of the Chateau and when the power goes out you can still run heat.
Good for you, keeping things the way they are. It gives the place character. There are so many channels that are just making everything modern and minimalist for the sake of "updating", which destroys all the history. We need *some* things to just be left alone.
Move on past the heating pipes now, you can only work around basic, necessary changes over the years. Glad you were able to get that important step handled properly on the chipper. Onward and upward now. 👍🏻👍🏻
Phil, you are a very good logical thinker and you always do things the right way as well. Good On You! That wood chipper is going to be the things that seals the deal for the pellet free heat for your chateau. Bravo!! I also love how you respect the history of your home and make due with what is already there without trying to modernize it to suit what others want & expect.😊
Oh Phil, I am so happy for you that the wood chipper is working properly now. This is going to be a huge game changer for you! Congratulations! You really are a clever man! Can't wait to see you turning those fallen branches into free heating 😊
Nobody is looking at those pipes. I wouldn't. Any normal person would realize you added 20th century heating to a 18th century building. Lord thete is more important things to worry about and fix. Enjoy your Holidays Phil. Keep on being positive 😊
Sorry to hear about your wallpaper steamer breaking. I've managed to break several appliances in the last couple of weeks. Things aren't made to last like they used to.
As you said the pipes are not original. As such they detract from the original character. If money and time unlimited I’d hide the heating all under the floors. Routing the pipes behind the paneling or under the floor would seem to be a compromise in time and expense to going underfloor. Either way it’s your place and I think we’re all glad to see you taking on the monumental task of maintaining it and restoring it! Thanks for the interesting content!
Now I know why houses of that size had so many servants...they needed someone to run around feeding fires in the fireplace! (and cleaning out the soot) I think, with the particular construction of your house, the amount of money you'd have to expend to change the heating system would be exorbitant. It would almost be cheaper to tear down the house and start over...obviously not going to happen. So, the wood pellet choice seems obvious. My question is, where do you store all those pellets so they stay dry and usable? Is the basement dry?
Phil we are going to free energy soon so it won’t cost anything. All to do with Tesla free energy. So don’t do gas heating but keep as much on electric. This is close. Also GESARA you’ll get £ into your account. Cant tell you in this little message just take it onboard and wait. :))
When building was new ch, hw or running water wasn't a thing and pipes accepted as part and parcel you've pointed out the advantages your choice your hse
U are right Phil these Chateaus are very old buildings and the scale of the size of the buildings i do not think some people know the cost involved of do somethings . I just cringe when people want to try and bring them into the 21st Century . It what it is the pipes are part of the heating system once painted the look better anyhow . Pleased the Wood chipper is back on its feet too great job done . 🙂
The choice is not to hide it or not...the choice is to live with it or to replace it with another heat source. I have invested in electricity from a solar cell and let the existing one remain until a major renovation or something else has to be done.
Enough with the pipes. They disappear into the decor eventually. We all have things that we need to compromise on. Pipes is pipes and it’s okay as they are 😊
okay then . delete the extension , whack the corner from the second set of doors and install . all to maintain the "charm" , "character" , "ambiance" ... right ?
Time and money spent on those areas, it would look awful to try to paint plaster board to look like wood. please wrap in oak r at the very minimum in a fake oak beam look styrofoam/resin.
It is just criminal what has been done with those ridiculous pipes. It’s looks like a toddler did it. Zero planning and zero hiring of the correct people to do the job. There are Chateau’s that are older than yours and you see very little if any pipe work using structural bulkheads.
Yes, you are right but the grounds always need clearing anyway so the wood which is cleared is only a small amount of extra work, fuel and time to create the wood pellets
I would paint the pipes in the color of the parquet when on the ground and color of the walls when on the walls.

Whoop whoop!!! Got that chipper going! What a mission! Well done!!
I live in a very old thatched cottage and like you all my pipe work is above. I like it as makes the room warmer 😊 the pipes get warm too everyone!
I never noticed the pipes in the drawing room before. They are painted to match and just blend in. Do that in all the rooms and be done.
Im so glad you can heat the chateau for lots cheaper. I think you can fix anything.
Your persistence has paid off and finally the woodchipper is working. Congratulations 🙂
One cannot expect perfection in renovating an old house, even a chateau. It would be nice aesthetically but at what cost?
Listen to chipper purr. Great job
Wood chipper running and tub removed are big wins for the week
Yeah Phil, you did it!! You can make the wood pellets now and warm the chateau!! Yippee
Way to go with the wood chipper-pellet production. Excellent video.
Can't wait to see how you make your own pellets! 👍
It sounds great the chipper, you aced that one
I think that the pipe work adds to the beauty of your amazing Chateau. Love your vlogs ❤. Hello Lightning, he's such a sweet dog🐶
Well done Phil! Super mechanic strikes again. If you can get that machine to make your own pellets you will be in heaven. Ours get delivered straight to the 6 ton silo and we have never been warmer. Congrats on getting the wood chipper working. Free fuel to heat your chateau is well worth the effort. Fresh paint will greatly improve the look of the pipes. 🙏🇨🇦🎄
Much better for the pipes to be in the open as you can deal with leaks so much easier! Once the rooms are decorated, you will never notice the pipes.
I agree pipework doesn't bother me either
Yay!!! One step closer to being heat independent ❤. I don’t mind the pipes, you can barely notice them in completed rooms
Thanks for updating us on the wood pellet adventure. Hopefully you will be getting free heat soon.
Yay you fixed it Phil that will be good and cheap heating ideal
Speaks volumes for dogged determination. Bravo Phil!🎉
Sensible approach ❤

Step by step your home is being brought back with such grace. Blessings forward

Great job getting the wood chipper running, Phil!
You are quite right about the pipe-work
Glad you’ve got it working 😁
WTG on the wood chipper Phil!!!
Good job 👏 👍 Phil!
PHIL HAPPY DANCE … YEAY! Good job! Excited to see you get this going… free heat! Sounds great!
well done on the chipper

So happy for you getting to energy independence.
Embrace the pipe work! It's part of the ambiance. You can paint it to blend in, but it is quaint....and effective for heat!
I agree 100%- it is what it is...And as we used to say in Hollywood... First make it work. Then make it pretty.
All thoseexposed pipes would really contribute to the dry warmth of the walls. Its part of the history of the Chateau and when the power goes out you can still run heat.

I'm always surprised at your diligence Phil. Good man!
Move on past the heating pipes now, you can only work around basic, necessary changes over the years.
Glad you were able to get that important step handled properly on the chipper. Onward and upward now. 👍🏻👍🏻
A super video Phil. Thank you!
Happy day for you, Phil!!!!
The drawing room is beautiful.

Best wishes to you
Leave the pipes alone. They shouldn't bother anyone, especially if they're doing the job. All adds to the charm. I Love your house, pipes and all.
Nobody is looking at those pipes. I wouldn't. Any normal person would realize you added 20th century heating to a 18th century building. Lord thete is more important things to worry about and fix.
Enjoy your Holidays Phil. Keep on being positive 😊
Well done you 🥳🍻
I dont mind the pipes
I don't blame you for not buying new when you are Mr. Fix-it. I think I have watched you fix everything around your home and your friends!
Box in the pipes with baseboard and 1” x 3” on top. Paint the vertical ones.
Well done
Sorry to hear about your wallpaper steamer breaking. I've managed to break several appliances in the last couple of weeks. Things aren't made to last like they used to.
Could you make it a folding door instead of re-piping everything?
As you said the pipes are not original. As such they detract from the original character.
If money and time unlimited I’d hide the heating all under the floors.

Either way it’s your place and I think we’re all glad to see you taking on the monumental task of maintaining it and restoring it! Thanks for the interesting content!
I think the pipe and radiators should be a feature in a room! Paint them silver make them look a little regal.
Can you box any pipes in? The door to what is going to be a sitting room off the bedroom, you could take off?
Granite isn't forgiving so leave pipes alone, just repaint so they look better.
I know you are concerned about cost, maybe you need to consider a new chipper as you will be using it for years. You do have lots of wood to cut.
Now I know why houses of that size had so many servants...they needed someone to run around feeding fires in the fireplace! (and cleaning out the soot)
I think, with the particular construction of your house, the amount of money you'd have to expend to change the heating system would be exorbitant. It would almost be cheaper to tear down the house and start over...obviously not going to happen. So, the wood pellet choice seems obvious. Technically no basement

Nothing has to be perfect.
Well then, you have to cut a hole in the door if you take out the extension. Glad the wood chipper is running again. Free heating sounds great. 🥵
When building was new ch, hw or running water wasn't a thing and pipes accepted as part and parcel you've pointed out the advantages your choice your hse
Si le chauffage est ancien, il est peut-être nécessaire de faire un "désembouage" des radiateurs.🤩
U are right Phil these Chateaus are very old buildings and the scale of the size of the buildings i do not think some people know the cost involved of do somethings . Painted to match the wall colours the pipes almost disappear!
can you make a boxed in baseboard to cover the pipes
👍💪🥳🥳
The pipes are galvanized?
Just paint the pipes to match what is behind.
I would just paint the pipes the same color as the walls. They are part of the history. End of issue.
To hide the pipes , why not build wood casing around the ones on the floor, and drywall on the ones going up the walls, then paint
Why hide the pipe work, it’s part of the charm of a building that age!
Can you not box the pipework in? To hide it?😊
Enough with the pipes. They disappear into the decor eventually. We all have things that we need to compromise on. Pipes is pipes and it’s okay as they are 😊
Let’s face it unless you’re going to put in under floor heating radiator pipes in the building of that age are just unavoidable
okay then . delete the extension , whack the corner from the second set of doors and install . all to maintain the "charm" , "character" , "ambiance" ... right ?
Morre do- less talk and that bath tub and rubbish might make it out the door and to the tip. Counting the episodes till this happens 😂😂
I’m counting the episodes until my back heals enough to carry anything of weight to be able to do that
@ okay fair point but you really should get or accept help. You’ll benefit in many ways by sharing your knowledge and experience.
Why can't you box them in with decorative boxes?
Because he’d lose the heat coming from them
Where is the dog.
Just paint it…
Time and money spent on those areas, it would look awful to try to paint plaster board to look like wood. please wrap in oak r at the very minimum in a fake oak beam look styrofoam/resin.

You don’t need to explain. The chateau was not built yesterday. It comes with all the charm. Get back to stripping, Phil. You’re not as feisty.
Not quite free heating.. you time is worth the effort!❤. Petrol to run chipper and cuber..😊
Yes, you are right but the grounds always need clearing anyway so the wood which is cleared is only a small amount of extra work, fuel and time to create the wood pellets
@ChateauLife I have 44 acres .. I have trees I clean up too. Wish I had a bigger burner..I have a small Edison for emergencies
