    I would paint the pipes in the color of the parquet when on the ground and color of the walls when on the walls.

    You give such a realistic view of being a chateau owner. Mine was always, as I sat by a fire in a comfy chair, reaching over to a side table and ringing a little bell to tell the maid to bring me a snack and a drink. Now I know I really need a chainsaw and a backhoe! Haha! Always love your channel!

    People, the radiator pipes were a retrofit on the original building a long time ago, and there is no way to fit the pipes in the granite structural walls, or lower them under the floor. Looking at the drawing room, the pipe is painted the same color as the wall it follows. It really isn't a problem, it's a feature. It's good you are mechanical, Phil, because that has been the chipper from hell. Well done!

    Well done Phil! Super mechanic strikes again. If you can get that machine to make your own pellets you will be in heaven. Ours get delivered straight to the 6 ton silo and we have never been warmer. The installers wanted us to have it on all night but it was too hot. Instead it comes on at 6. 30 and goes off around 1030 pm So easy empty the ash once a month. Magic

    Most old stone buildings have the same problem, so if the piping and the conduits are installed neatly and painted to blend with the surfaces they pass over, they will look just fine. No one expects you to pretend it's still the eighteenth century.

    @leighnisbett9691 3 години тому +3

    Phil you could paint the pipes in the colour of the walls or floors depending on where the pipes are plumbed in , but you need to do a proper job the first time so you don't have to fix it at a later date .

  • @dianecoutu9270
    @dianecoutu9270 2 години тому +2

    For the pipes you could give it a chateau look by building a slight shelf, just over the pipes. For the thickness of the pipes, they look to be under 2 inches thick. With a little grate like front underneath the shelf that goes down to the floor. Voila you get the heat and hide the pipes. I hope this gives you some ideas. Thanks for the great work you are doing with the vlogs.

  • @beverlysivley

    You’re a man of many talents. Good call regarding the pipes, they are just a normal part of the building. If you restore the building to its original form, you would have to use the fireplaces to heat. Good call.

    Hide the pipework? Quite the contrary! Make it as visible as can be! Painted the right colour - I would paint the pipes a cast iron mat black with bronze connecting elements- it can actually be a stunning decorative feature and absolutely in keeping with the age of the building.

    Good for you, keeping things the way they are. It gives the place character. There are so many channels that are just making everything modern and minimalist for the sake of "updating", which destroys all the history. We need *some* things to just be left alone.

    As you said the pipes are not original. As such they detract from the original character.
    If money and time unlimited I’d hide the heating all under the floors.
    Routing the pipes behind the paneling or under the floor would seem to be a compromise in time and expense to going underfloor.
    Either way it’s your place and I think we’re all glad to see you taking on the monumental task of maintaining it and restoring it! Thanks for the interesting content!

    Now I know why houses of that size had so many servants...they needed someone to run around feeding fires in the fireplace! (and cleaning out the soot)
    I think, with the particular construction of your house, the amount of money you'd have to expend to change the heating system would be exorbitant. It would almost be cheaper to tear down the house and start over...obviously not going to happen. So, the wood pellet choice seems obvious. My question is, where do you store all those pellets so they stay dry and usable? Is the basement dry?

    The choice is not to hide it or not...the choice is to live with it or to replace it with another heat source. I have invested in electricity from a solar cell and let the existing one remain until a major renovation or something else has to be done.
