- Steam powered Lumber Mill dating to 1924 -- and reborn in its original working order. both museum and working mill, Sturgeon's Mill is a spellbinding piece of history (especially for that little boy in all of us, that loves big, powerful, and smooth machinery... and for the little girls that love manly men in suspenders tossing redwood trees.
Interesting well done video. Thanks.
Shame on me for getting so much enjoyment from your video. The crew (volunteers?) are in a festive mood, the log is straight, The audience needs some theater seats to stick their chewing gum to. Only detail to be noted is no one is attired in "BIBBS" In the twenties and thirties I would expect to see more "BIBBS" Forgive the arnery in me ,, I really liked this video and envy the crew. I would love to partake in the activities. a big T H A N K sss
Just curious because my father in law just had a steam engine stolen from his property not too long ago. so I was goggling all the steam engines and ran across this on you Tube. Thanks for sharing very interesting
hi, wondering if your father in law is related to Larry Dixon?
Oh grow up ichudov, that's what GOD put them on Earth for. They can be successfully harvested and replanted to maintain a healthy Forest. Excellent video, hope to make it up there to see your Sawmill.
Great Video, I wish the blacksmith speaking in this one would make an instructional one just on blacksmithing
This sawmill reminds me of the mill near Cranbrook BC Canada in the 1950's. My Dad hauled lumber from this mill and he was able to take me along as a rider in the truck cab, I was age 12 or so. Sometimes we would get to the mill before a load was quite ready so I could go upstairs and watch the headsaw and the carriage thru the doorway of the adjacent filing room. The sawyer rode the carriage, sitting in a seat, the headsaw was equipped with a topsaw, like the one on this mill, to saw large logs.
That's a very intersting sawmill there !
I've never seen one with a set of dogs like that before.
I kind of like the log roller set up on it too.
Very Cool Indeed !
I guess your house isn't made from any wood?
Why did the guy turn on the saw coming from overhead? I'm sure it can't be used in the same cut as the saw on the carriage unless it's staggered behind it.
jbm banter Because Saw bled is one side not double side
+jbm banter , just ahead actually. It increases the size of log the mill can work. Basically it increases the depth of cut.
Mike
its there if there is a big Log that the Saw blade can't cut all the way through and that is what it is used for
GRE 2057, thank you.
Mike Lamothe your welcome
Shame on you for destroying trees of California!
