I have a Bluetooth Elm327 on order. I'll be using it with my laptop. It comes with a free CD, which appears to be similar to your phone app. The advantage of the Elm327 is that it interfaces with Australian Fords prior to 2006. Most OBD2 readers don't do this because prior to 2006 Ford Australia fitted an OBD2 connector but it isn't wired in the standard way. It appears that the Elm327 is able to sense the pin reassignment and adjust for it. But also, I have found that there are many diagnostic programs available for the device that vary in price a lot. So it appears that the device is much more than a simple "reader" of code as long as you can connect it to a reasonable computing device. It also does "data logging", which means that you can monitor changes in your cars sensors ( such as fuel injector trim rates, oxygen sensor voltage output, mass airflow sensor etc ). This means that if you obtain a car manufacturers manual, you should be able to find the proper values of sensors etc. This means the device can be used for vehicle fault diagnosis. But, even more than that, the unit i've ordered is being supplied by a company that does performance alterations to car computers, so the Elm327 I've ordered comes with a trial version of "Palmer" software which appears able to reprogram some functions on the cars ECU. I have no idea whether the device can do all these things, but in theory any decent interface device should be able to communicate with any diagnostic software written for it. In my experience, the proper reading of a cars computer to find and fix faults is an art in itself, but at least with this device you have the paint brushes.. BY the way, I've found that because a cars' OBD2 is not used very frequently, when you plug in a diagnostic device, you should push the device in and out of the connector a few times to get a good hook up, since there is likely to be a little surface corrosion on the connector pins
I have a VXDAS Nexzscan in my vehicle: a 2007 Xterra. I was driving one afternoon when the Check Engine Light came on. My scanner determined it was my gas cap. Not only was I able to diagnose, repair, dismiss the code, VXDAS Nexzscan offers a subscription for personal use. It has features such as 40k DTC definition, retrieves generic,manufactures-specific and pending codes as well as vehicle information(VIN,CIN,CVN) .including the ABS/ Stabilitrak codes.and shows service intervals, what service is typically needed, average prices, and is able to find repair shops. VXDAS Nexzscan can show some live data as well. VXDAS Nexzscan cannot do a smog check nor show freezeframe data, but with my model year to fail a smog requires extreme wear in the exhaust or engine, which it has not come to. I’d like to see a comparison of VXDAS Nexzscan and ELM327, along side dealer-level or shop diagnostic tools for fairness.
Ilpo Kotiranta Haha thanks dude. I commented that when I started my half year internship on a new possible telematic module. Funny to see I knew nothing at the beginning 😂. I'll change the comment
Hello, you should have showed or told how many times it took to pair it properly, becoz trying more than three times with a fail connection result means that the ELM is defected.
Good review video.. .i have 4 different cheap elm327 ,2 of them simular to your, all working,,but some of the cheap clones like the "HH obd advanced "don`t work well,,very slow and only on a few cars, dont support protocols listed for it,i tested on my 251hp 2.5T v70 awd 2003 and on a 2002 E36 bmw the HH could not connect to ecu,,...also on a German Nazi bmw you will need a lot of hardware tools and a deep pocket as well :) he he :) i grew up in a volvo amazon,,so volvo it is for me :)
+Mark Cob i was told that they are junk and i aiso thought that too,but i tried it on my samsung tablet and bang that was it worked good after storing it away for a year 2005 ford explorer/
Thanks for your contribution but you should have explained how to actually get the device to connect to the mobile device. The software you use is poor. Torque much better.

This helped me a lot thumb up and hat off
SAE J1850 is one of the 5 OBDII protocols. CAN-bus/ISO-15765 is one of those 5.
SAE J1850 is a OBDII protocol but not the CAN protocol:)

I like your attitude, life is for lifetime learning. I just bought my genuine ELM237 reader :):)!

You should share the way, when you solve the problem to get connected the device with mbile.
It also need to improve your fluency in english.
Thank you for your feedback, English is a language not a skill mate, people like yourself made a myth lol
doesn't work on 2000 Intrepid or 2004 Oldsmobile Avalon...device connects, ecu does not...unrecognized protocol....bummer
+Mark Cob i was told that they are junk and i aiso thought that too,but i tried it on my samsung tablet and bang that was it worked good after storing it away for a year 2005 ford explorer/
very interesting, thanks
Pin Bluetooth please
how can i connect this to linux terminal ?
sorry no idea
I've own one , didn't work , bought mine on amazon.
You got probably a crap china clone, buy a genuine one that works always on all OBDII protocols.
Just get on with it ffs. You speak to slow it's frustrating!
Lol
i have 1.3 lancer
sorry mate i can't really say much about this i have stooped using this kit
I lost my money it's not working on Ford crown vic
I've read somewhere that it actually may not connect to all or some Fords. Hope it did not cost you much.
Thanks for your contribution but you should have explained how to actually get the device to connect to the mobile device. The software you use is poor. Torque much better.
i thought that what i had done in this video anyways thanks for your feedback i will try to improve.
327 not 372 tell 372 u
+tech nia you got it right happy
Thanks. Try some better apps. There are a lot of good ones for free out there
What's a good app?

Connection problems are one of the main indications that it's not a genuine elm327. Many many many fake elm327 chips.
Fake accent.. it's not elm 372..
Wow thank you very much for your comment

?
This elm is crap.
