Another Epic Peacock Bass Fishing Adventure with Amazon Xtreme Fishing after the pandemic.
After a year of shut down, the group finally had their trip come realized.
This is a PEACOCK BASS FISHING story in the Making, and what AXF is all about!
Thursday - Jan 13th, 2022; groups arrive in the City of Manaus, capital of the State of Amazon with an estimated population of 1.2 million. After check-in its off for a day visiting local highlights, and going out to a Brazilian Churrascaria for dinner, its a must!
Friday- week starts: Group took private flights up to the town of Santa Isabel where our home for the coming weeks awaits onboard the Black Pearl of the Amazon, the Zaltan, built from the ground up for mobility and 5-start comfort. The first day is orientation, meet the guides, mingle, and get to know each other, perfect Peacock Bass topwater lures and tackles ready for a week of actions, visiting local villages, and one Note: “Believe me, someone will land the biggest trophy for the week, but don’t ask me who, only the week will tell.”
We have a group of first-time visitors which makes it an even more Epic peacock bass fishing trip. Let’s see who takes big fish trophies home 6 days from now!
Saturday to Thursday are fishing days:
The week before our arrival, the Rio Negro was higher than normal and we expected to have higher water as the week started, but as a blessing from above the river dropped 7” in one day, and then kept dropping fast, with high winds and lots of Sun gave a fast hand in the sudden changes, the week looked to be one of those perfect conditions for fishing. As with all fish and water levels, when the water starts to rise fish activity slows down a little, and when it starts to drop the fish become active and feed more, this was a fast drop that left the fish hook crazy all over the Negro basin, if you were there on the negro, you know, you had the best trip this year.
The river we planned to go into was still higher than normal, so we decided to fish the outer river, The Negro, and its northern zone. The choice was the perfect pick for the week. We knew as the week went on, the water and the fishing would only get better and better.
Sunday morning we launched in the Uneuixi River (zones 1 to 3), the boats went on to explore, fish in the river, and see how the river is behaving and by the end of the day, they returned with reports of slow dropping waters and hard fishing conditions. We turned the Zaltan around and headed back to the main river to better waters and our favorite spots the next morning.
The guys landed some nice fish, but not what was expected there, one angler came back with zero for the day... fishing is fishing, not shopping. A short fishing-talk, on lures and technics for the week, made his week a whole adventure.
As the week went on the fishing conditdsions only got better and more epic!
The week ended with 617 peacock bass, 57 fish 11-19lbs, and 2 over 20lbs.
Some of the highlights:
The first team to land big fish was Jeff and Julian, with Jeff landing a nice 20-lb trophy on his firsts day out. This made Jeff the man to beat for the week for big fish of the gate!.
This is why we call it fishing, it’s anyone’s game and just being in the right place, timing, and unexpected cast into the bush. The team of Gary and Matt fished hard, Gary landed several huge Peacock Bass with the biggest at 18lbs..
The Zaltan was built to bring the World Class Anglers closer to the mystical and beautiful spectacles of the Amazon and its wonders.
