A possible tip for backing the trailer/rig into a spot. My wife is typically my spotter and she will facetime me with the phone camera facing the back of the rig. This gives me a complete view of obstacles on the sides of the spot. It is also a huge help with straightening up into a spot. Its great with larger rigs when its tough to see your spotter on both sides, especially when you have to reverse 'turn' into a spot instead of having an easier back in. It's cut our back-in time more than in half, and has also just about eliminated back-in related arguments HA!
Weighing is important, and it's no joke.... but Marc's love for it? That's hilarious! Keep on being an inspiration to everyone, even when stuck in the driveway!!
I fully understand the 🐈 scales thing. My wife thinks I weigh our rig too much, but she understands why I have this "illness" ! I was diagnosed with "KYD 19 " 🤧 since we subscribed to your channel.

You guys are the quintessential perfect couple. Marc is thoughtful, logical, and practical. Tricia is enthusiastic, bubbly, and charming. Together, they're a hoot!
So glad you’re Airstreamers now. We pick ours up in less than two months. We’ve never seen you as excited about a new rig as you are with Platinum Ginger. You’re practically giddy.
Agree on anyone waving at you!!!! not saying hello they are trying to let you know something is wrong. Was towing a works trailer loaded last week (materials to a hospital) when a lorry flashed its lights at me ( he even pulled out of inside lane to do it a second time) so I watched my mirrors and noticed a strap dragging on ground, pulled in and sorted. Thanks to the truck driver.
I've always refilled at 1/4 of a tank since I started driving. I learned about lines getting clogged with what settles in the bottom of the tank from my father. He wouldn't let us drive without knowing how to change a tire, oil, air filter... Basically we all learned basic car maintenance before we started driving, and not just the boy, girls too. Now I have another reason to not let the car get too low on gas. It strains the fuel pump. I either forgot, or didn't know that one. I've forgotten a lot since the '80s. I learned things you don't need to do anymore (i.e. lube job).
Great episode! We love the idea of having a bag of fuses with us on travels... it's always good to have the resources on hand to be able to fix issues when they arise. CHEERS & THANKS!
I never, ever really understood all the numbers regarding vehicle/trailer weight ratings. That is until I starting watching the KYD UA-cams. So today, after trading in our trailer for a new one, we headed directly to the CAT scale at I-10 & 101. While I liked the the numbers we got back, I even more appreciated the hystical laugh I got out of trying to understand the garbled PA. Thanks, Marc, for the warning. We’re still laughing this evening. Safe travels!
Ahhhhhh look at Trish lookin at Marc!! I was watching her, seeing the love she can’t contain and then she grabs his cheeks and says “look at him, he is so cute”.........absolutely adorable!!!! All the work you have put into your marriage shows and you are reaping the benefits !!! Awesome as usual !!! Blessings
Last year we made plans to lease our sticks and bricks for one year while we tried full time RVing. Then this virus hit and put a hold on our traveling, but the renters were ready to move in. So now we are mooch docking in our own driveway waiting for the country to open up again. Fun times!
Thanks for another great video! Really love the new set up. I also think that you are now more relatable with most RV owners. Thanks again from Surprise AZ.
just witnessed via your dash cam, the truck pull out in front of you and the urgency of the flat deck to get over. From a former trucker (myself) i offer you a safety tip to help truckers you are around on the road; if you see them wanting to pull out and you are ok with it, flash your hi-beams so they know its ok to go. (perhaps you are already aware of this) Losing speed when you' re heavy and knowing you have to wait for a car to pass can make such a difference on your fuel economy, and effort to regain that speed again to pass. For a trucker, a quick flash with the headlights and letting them get out is very much appreciated. Another tip so many drivers seem to not know anymore is flashing your headlights when you see those handsome boys in blue (or beige, I think in the U.S.) with their swanky cameras and have customers on the side, to let those folks know where those fellas are in front of them. Love your vids, interesting choice for the new tow..
Hi Charlie... another great episode, glad to see moving into the new home away from home is well! BTW loved how Trish just happened to drive by the Cat Scales.... Enjoy your week everyone!
Wife and I just purchased our first travel trailer, and I have been binge watching your videos to learn as much as I could. Awesome Videos, I love all the happy spirits.
“No slides!” I get it! It is so awesome when you can pull over at a rest stop and sit and have some lunch! Moving day for some reason was so cumbersome for me with slides and I also had a pit in my stomach bringing them in and out. When we got our first Airstream it was such a relief! I get it!
I dump my fresh water tank all the time while driving. I drive in the mountains of Colorado and dumping that extra weight can really help. It often gets me attention from other motorists wanting to warn me though.
Re: Trailer power cable. Use a one foot or so piece of solid house wire to attach cable to hitch. Use the wire to hold the weight of your power cable up so it isn't hanging from the connector or dragging on the ground. In an emergency the wire will give way. Take the single 12 GA wire and loop it 3 times around a hole on the hitch and then wrap 2 or three tines around trailer power cable. Never a problem!
We dry camped in a "park" of 89 with a snow-covered Humphrey's Peak out our window on our way back to San Diego from Antelope Canyon in Feb, 2020. Temp just above freezing thank goodness! We have a Orion by Coachmen-Forest River that I bought 2 years ago and have put over 30,000 miles on it watching your videos for tips all the way! Thanks for all your help!
My advice, GET on Parler. I just bought a used '06 5th wheel and I've watching your vids for tip and tricks. I also love your banter, and music. Great!
Did you weigh the truck by itself after you weighed the truck and trailer? This will let you check your weight distribution and see what your pin weight actually is.
Sandra Westley from the UK wow I have watched so so many videos on UA-cam you are the first person to weigh there rig, it’s so important in the UK because our trailers have weight limits and they should be no more than 80% of the vehicle to be safe, all I ever see is people up dating there trailers replacing flooring, and couches etc with no thought to weight. Yes it’s against the Law here to overload your axles
First off, I am so so so happy that you can stand up in your trailer again. Don't get me wrong, I'm a jeep guy and I loved the jeep. That's where that ends. Second, the label maker. My cousins husband has one and when you go into his garage, unless your visually challenged you can find everything you need. Safe & healthy travels my friends.
My aunt lives in Surprise, AZ (NW Phoenix). She gets the Fox news pictures of the sunrises and sunsets they show on the news and sends them to me. They are so beautiful. AZ sunsets rival Key West, Hawaii and other parts of the world. My favorite sunset was when my wife and I went a safari and saw Mt Kilimanjaro and the Ngorbgoro basin in Africa. Someday I would like to do a truck camper and do all of Africa from Morocco to South Africa.
I had to wait 7 days for a video, please forward me to the complaint department 🧐🧐🧐safe travels home guys miss those open roads I drove those years ago in a semi!!!!
For our dog we didn't like the cone. We got him a neck pillow instead. Serves the same purpose, just less clunky. Look up the Kong cloud collar. I'm sure he's done wearing it by now, but for future reference, the pillow is much better. Great video as usual. Stay safe and healthy!
I always look forward to my Sunday and getting to watch a KYD episode! That was the same exact stop I had to stay overnight when I hit a snowstorm home from buying my 5th wheel in Texas.
Congrats, you will love your new rig. We took a year off and traveled the country in our 27FB and loved it. We just got back from two boondocking trips and it is our happy place. We have towed ours around 34k miles and use a propride hitch. Towed mainly in the mountains and one month ski trip. Tons of wind and never any sway. Tows great. Only challenge is finding a place to turn her around back 5-6 miles on forest Service roads.
Absolutely!!!! You're trailer brake controller is the first thing you grab for sway. I have the Blue Ox weight distribution anti sway hitch, and I'm not affiliated with the company at all, it was a $1000 investment, but worth every penny. I was forced once to drive home in 60 km/hr cross winds, not something I was eager to do with my family of 5 on board, but the Blue Ox hitch performed. Felt like I was on rails. Safety first.
I laugh out loud at least once per episode. This time it was Trish's comment about being annoyed with the Cat Scale. So funny! Congratulations on the new rig. Looking forward to the new S2R season. Thanks for the happiness you spread!
I have lived in Mexico for the last 16 years. My plan was to go to Texas over Easter break (spring break for us here in Mexico is the week before and the week after Easter Sunday) and find our new RV. It's just me and my 14 yr old daughter, who has never seen snow or the changing of the leaves. Ready to go full time, but this Covid 19 has screwed everything up. The sale of my house fell through on April 7 due to the falling peso. I'm so frustrated, but when I listen to you guys, I can believe anything is possible!! Thank you and hope to see you some day out there on the road.
I love the "Platinum Ginger" name. It's perfect! Loving the shirts as well. PG is looking great and can't wait for the official walk through. You are getting it organized well Trisha. Love the hat holder, I need to do that in my home for my hats. lol Don't you just love having your vacuum charging the whole time?!! I have the same vacuum that I used in my home, it is awesome and will be so perfect in PG. Stay healthy and safe guys! Hugs, Brenda
Hi Marc and Trish - Nice new rig with the F250 and Airstream. Congratulations from Houston. One comment on the fuse and module, #27 and #37 respectively, these two items are no longer used on the 2017+ F-series with integrated brake controller as I understand. Power to the #12 pin on the 7-way is made available by the truck's computer after the trailer is connected to the truck and after applying the brakes to the trailer one time (either via foot brake or the slider on the brake controller device). This then allows current to flow through the 7-way to charge the battery on the trailer. My apologies if this is redundant information. Happy and Safe travels!
I like to reweigh for just $2 more each time. Weigh the rig with, then without the WDH bars, and the truck by itself. Easy to calculate tongue weight AND how much weight is distrIbuted where by the WDH.
"OVERLOADED?" I can see how a lot of rigs get overload you have a empty back seat that can sit 3 adults. Bring some family and friends along with some gear in the back of the truck and that 680 LBS will be used up. That is why it is so important to look closely at your payload capacity and not your tow capacity. I like how you use the CAT scales and everybody needs to do the same thing weight their rigs and know their capacity. I see a lot of overload rigs on the road that I am sharing the road with.
Agreed more people should learn to use a CAT scale. Especially if they tow a larger TT with a lighter 1/2 ton truck SUV etc. Near Mfgr limits the difference between two finger drive-able & white knuckle towing is in set up and thats at the same CVW. As far as safety & stability are concerned focus on adjusting your WDH and truck & trailer loading so that you replace your unloaded steer weight and can calculate your tongue weight percentage to be in range from your scale slip. In doing so you will have set up your truck & trailer up for maximum stability. CVW, GVW, max receiver & axle weights all valuable to know for safety and are on your scale slips. They are not used in setting up your rig for stability but for checking to stay within Mfgr spec. I transport Airstreams from the plant to the dealerships which is what made me take notice to this video.
We considered ordering a 3/4 ton for our 30' Arctic Fox travel trailer but, it would have been a little close to the payload limit. Not much room for loading up the pickup bed with generators, water, and gear. It was maybe a little over a thousand dollars more to order and F350 instead of an F250. We did. Problem solved.
We cannot say enough good things about the cordless dyson. We bought one for our rig and mounted it in a compartment behind the TV the bedroom. It worked so well that we got rid of the big vacuum from our house and put a cordless dyson for home also. (We Some Time RV). When asked we tell everyone to get one and they will thank us later.
It’s about time! I’ve been waiting all week here! Do you have any idea how long a week is? It’s 604,800 seconds long, just in case you were wondering. Anyway, glad to see another video. Have a great day you guys! Oh, and FIRST!
@@KeepYourDaydream How about you turn off your truck while sitting at the CAT scale? I used to work at a fast food joint and I hated it when loud muscle cars and 'deleted' diesel trucks came through the Drive-thru. Couldn't hear a dam they said most of the time. Lol
Favorite moment of the video...the peel!!! So satisfying...thank you for your positivity in a negative world right now, it's a nice distraction from the stress we are all feeling.
Love your channel, we are just starting our adventures. I rate your channel 10/10 for production quality, edits, music, flow, humor. You both nailed it, very entertaining. We have decided to binge watch your seasons during CV19, cast to our family room screen and grow our dreams. Thank you both!!
Pretty sure that was a normal shovel but regardless, cringey. Rubbing your hand on a dusty panel will quickly scratch the clear coat. Let alone dragging anything with weight across the hood.
@@badgerpa9 That's a regular plastic "scraper" shovel or sometimes called a pusher shovel not meant to clean snow from a vehicle but from walkways, driveways and such. I'll hold my comments related to shovel education.
@@zachchasteen1164 Anyone driving in the snowbelt has their own version of "Arizona pin striping" but it's on horizontal surfaces instead of the sides. You can't wash the road salt/ dust off in winter because the door seals and locks freeze up so you have to sweep the snow off and end up scratching the paint.
I think you have upped your editing with this season ... great video! Love the addition of the song artist on the videos. Man those AZ sunsets are awesome!
We are supposed to be camping now, was canceled by the governor. So yes we have been driveway camping. Cleaning the roof and doing roof inspections. The camper with be tip top when we can finally get out. You guys have the perfect home base. Have a great week.
You guys do some of the finest videos in UA-cam. Thanks for your videos. We have been watching you guys since you started and really enjoy watching them every week.
We had so many plans before COVID-19! My partner retired last march, we sold one of our rental properties last September, we ordered a Airstream Caravel 20FB in December, bought a 2020 Tundra Limited in January, picked up the Airstream February 27th and our Condo went on the market March 7th! Our plan was for me to retire as soon as we had a viable contract on the condo and we had reservations for June in Wyoming to start our year+ adventure in our Airstream! Reality.....6 showings and everything stopped with the sale of the condo....our state is on lockdown until June 10th. We are trying to stay positive but it is really hard! We were to be in Alberta for most of July and then Alaska for August. We are working really hard to “keep our daydream”! Thanks for your positive spin and showing that we are all in this together! Colleen
My wife and I listened to your most recent podcast over cups of coffee this morning. We enjoy your insight and perspective on parenting. We also have three children about the same age. We particularly like the “invite and revel” approach to hiking. If they choose not to come, be sure to revel in the experience when you return. Keep the podcasts coming. Stay safe.
Sorry for so many comments ... new subscriber and really enjoying a relaxing evening after work exploring your content. Our daughter went to NAU and we have many fond memories of visiting Flagstaff and the surrounding area. Arizona is a beautiful state!
I love watching your videos. It does a person good to see how other people live and dream. Its fun to see your kids grow up but sad in the same breath. You always want to keep the kids young and innocent, but you also know they will grow, hopefully into the people you hoped they would become. You have done a great job with your kids and I miss seeing them altogether as a family. I truly look forward to more of your vids and hope we all come out of this lockdown with our hair and sanity intact. God Bless and Happy Trails.
Hi guys! We are thrilled to see you in an Airstream! Welcome to the silver community!! We are in our fourth AS now and loving every minute we get in it. Like you said, the fun starts when I put the key in my truck ignition, and it’s all about realizing how important every second is that God gives us with our spouse. Looking forward to escaping Coronapalooza, and following your adventures too! All the best! Ger n Rox
I know I shouldn’t laugh, but I giggled at your ziploc baggie storage for your fuses 😃, at least you know where it is. Trish I totally don’t blame you for passing the cat scales...🥱🥱🤣. I don’t usually do podcasts, but love y’all, so I’ll give it a try. Laughed at the end so much...nice posing Marc. 😂
What a coincidence how you were talking about liquid surge causing sway (that's the trucking term for slosh in the tanks) then that rig was draining its tank just for that reason. To get that 7 way to fit tight you can put a few wraps of electrical tape around the body of the connector to increase the diameter a bit and make it more snug.
Thanks guys for introducing me to Beta Radio, their soothing sound is just what my soul needs in these troubling times! Can't wait to play it softly from my trailer's speakers on a calm night in better times. And Marc, a push broom works great for snow removal on surfaces you don't want to mar or damage.
Mark, Watching your CAT Scale weighing process, Should you have disconnected the trailer on the scale, then position the truck between the split scale for the front and back axel weighing process? You would have a separate weight of the trailer and a separate weight of both axles of the truck. When using the equalizing bars, you are effectively transferring the tongue weight between the front and rear axles of the truck. I would think this process is actually skewing the weights I would think. Thanks
Thank you!! I'm driveway docking at my childhood home and so grateful to not feel alone in this situation. (For the first time since hitting the road a year ago I was clock watching waiting for your episode...LOL) Appreciating the KYD community more than ever. Stay well. Stay Safe.
The magnetic ezconnector is 100 percent waterproof and secure. Before that trailer wire connector would corrode and trailer disconnected light came on often. Check it out. I also converted our car hauler to this setup as well
One of the best parts of the vid was the Cat Scale sequence 11:40. We have a somewhat heavy rig and getting a weight on a Cat Scale is on my list. Honestly I have been a bit intimidated because I wasn't sure how the process works ... now I won't feel like a complete idiot! Thanks 👍
Your video on Payload vs Towing capability made a big difference in the Tow vehicle I purchased. I was thinking 1/2 ton, but after your video, it was clear to me 3/4 ton was correct choice for my situation. Thanks for the great insight. Keep up the great videos.
I look forward to watching you guys every Sunday. We bought our first rig last year I have been following you guys for about 2 years now you inspire us to go out and have the experiences with our family. We even bought a dog, the kids always wanted one but we went on too many vacations to have one. Now it does not matter! THANK YOU FOR INSPIRING US👨👩👧👦🐕
“ Holy Hotness” I truly thought I was the only one who said that! Every video I watch the more and more I get excited to go out! We have a Hybrid camper! Love how light it is! You guys are awesome! You use Love n Logic for our kids, long story there, but definitely making a difference! Listened to your podcast yesterday! Bless you guys!
Great video. Coming from a retired Navy salvor - if a tank is not "pressed up" the water shifting back-and-forth is known as a "free surface effect". But I also think keeping the water weight in the fresh water tank helps in towability...and I have a ProPride hitch. But good stuff and appreciate your videos!
I am new to your channel. I have been a subscriber for about three weeks. My wife and I bought a new trailer and we can’t wait to start camping. I want to thank you for all the great information you pass along. I grew up camping, but I never payed attention to to the setup information the way I should have. You guys are awesome!
I’m a truck driver and you will definitely love the CAT scale app. It’s so easy and you don’t have to go inside to pay or get the scale ticket. I have the app and wouldn’t want to be without it.
So fun to see you backyard/driveway camping. Thats what we are doing here in California with our new trailer. Looking forward to taking her out for her maiden voyage when things get better ;)
270k subscribed, you are obviously doing something right.! Another great fun to watch video. Your editing skills are spot on. And the interactions between you two are lovable.
Command strip tip, to almost double a Command Strip's weight limit, attach the strip to the hook/fastener, heat the exposed strip (wall side) for one minute using a hair dryer on high then immediately mount it on the wall. The heat causes the material to expand and when applied to a cooler surface contracts and "grips" the surface much tighter.
It's so much fun setting up a new rig and I like Trish's organizing must-haves (wine goes well with organizing)! My kids were very concerned for Charlie in his cone! 😆 😂
Yep Ive done that a lot . I cook outside also. It's actually fun . My twin 5 yr old grandsons love it when I do this. Plus I don't have to attempt backing it up lol

I use a bungee cord. It gives the cable support and is flexible.

That KYD hoodie 😍!!!!!
1st Love the new design, 2nd you guys always make me laugh and 3rd Can't wait for the truck upgrades video !!
The truck upgrades are insane. The week after next.
Thank you for the video. It provided a much needed distraction from the tragic events of April 18&19 here in Nova Scotia, Canada.
Tows great. Only challenge is finding a place to turn her around back 5-6 miles on forest Service roads.
as a reminder, rechock your trailer tires after they have cooled down.
Trish: "Anyways, we're just rinsing off some Veggies"--- Pulls out Grapes
Me:🤔😜
Love Y'all Lots... Another great vlog... Very informative and Funny.
I laugh out loud at least once per episode. This time it was Trish's comment about being annoyed with the Cat Scale. So funny! Congratulations on the new rig. Looking forward to the new S2R season. Thanks for the happiness you spread!
Okay Trish, time to dish, where did you find that gorgeous blanket on the bed?
Amarie V I need to know this!!
I came here for this answer! I must know!
yes i want to know too!
Lol that's what I'm trying to find out too! Urban outfitters? West elm? Pottery Barn??
One of the funniest- humor wise - I’ve seen in a long time. CAT scales & being in the truck stop can be ‘scary’. 😎. Thanks for sharing
Where did yall get those mirrors? They look nice & lightweight!
Jamie M I was wondering the same thing 😂
Where would I find the circle grill at was seeing if it was on your amazon page?
The circle grill Trish is cooking the flank steaks on is so kool. Were can we buy one? We love your videos, we find them very informative. Thank you.
I like to reweigh for just $2 more each time. Weigh the rig with, then without the WDH bars, and the truck by itself. Easy to calculate tongue weight AND how much weight is distrIbuted where by the WDH.
Smart process 👍
"OVERLOADED?" I can see how a lot of rigs get overload you have a empty back seat that can sit 3 adults. Bring some family and friends along with some gear in the back of the truck and that 680 LBS will be used up. That is why it is so important to look closely at your payload capacity and not your tow capacity. I like how you use the CAT scales and everybody needs to do the same thing weight their rigs and know their capacity. I see a lot of overload rigs on the road that I am sharing the road with.
They have 3 adult kids to ride with them at times. Well Caleb may not grow up but that is OK.
How did you write all that and still end up first?? Double trophy 🏆🏆
Keep Your Daydream ever hear of Speedy Gonzalez?
He’s slow.
Love you guys. You are inspiring and bring light to a world that needs more light and love...
Marc should find a job at a Cat Scale then you should quit Rving and let him live his dream.
That's possible!?!?
joseph pattison .....I figured his dream was to weigh in on every cat scale across the country 😂😂😂🤷♀️
With his sense of humor he would be out putting his foot on the scale every time someone was weighing in.
LOL
@@KeepYourDaydream
How about you turn off your truck while sitting at the CAT scale? I used to work at a fast food joint and I hated it when loud muscle cars and 'deleted' diesel trucks came through the Drive-thru. Couldn't hear a dam they said most of the time. Lol
Favorite moment of the video...the peel!!! So satisfying...thank you for your positivity in a negative world right now, it's a nice distraction from the stress we are all feeling.
What kind of grill is that? I've never seen one like that.
It's a skottle. Looks like a Tembo Tusk.
The fellow on "Primal Outdoors - Camping and Photography" films useing his a lot. It's called a Skottle. Not sure if that's the exact spelling.
Love your channel, we are just starting our adventures. I rate your channel 10/10 for production quality, edits, music, flow, humor. You both nailed it, very entertaining. We have decided to binge watch your seasons during CV19, cast to our family room screen and grow our dreams. Thank you both!!
Never use a shovel to remove the snow on your truck please😉 that made me cringe buy a Chevy if your gonna do that🤣🤣
If that's what I think it was it's actually made of soft silicone and is made to drag across the hood of your truck to pull snow off of.
Show your level of education as that is designed to remove snow from a vehicle.
To be honest I just love the look of Airstream. Obviously it’s a classic look but they just look divine! ❤️
I think you have upped your editing with this season ... great video! Love the addition of the song artist on the videos. Man those AZ sunsets are awesome!
LOL, your conversation with the Cat Scale is like my every experience at a drive thru!
Wife and I love your videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us all!
Colleen
My wife Linda used the Brother P touch to label the dashboard with all kinds of instructions. Praise the Lord!
Stay safe.
Thanks Dave!
We’ve been in our 26 Airstream for two years. You’ll love yours. Just changed trucks to a 19 superduty.
We are new to your channel and just subscribed today. My husband and I enjoy watching your channel and learning so much. Thank you.
I don't even camp but I have enjoyed watching y'all for a couple of years. Keep up the good work!
This video made me a subscriber. Thank you! My wife and I are looking forward to your content.
This setup is much better than the toy hauler setup.
Love watching you guys on you tube.Your just like family. You two are so cool.
Thank you for the shots of Amtrak through the desert! It's also a great way to see the sights.
Yep Ive done that a lot . I cook outside also. It's actually fun . My twin 5 yr old grandsons love it when I do this. Plus I don't have to attempt backing it up lol
KYD always brightens my day during these dim times. Thank you!
Love when you put videos of trains in your travels :)!!
