I have seen many women do the ta'olunga. This woman is a natural! Her face says it all! She like all other Polynesian dances tell the story not with just the hands, but with the face! I can watch her dance all day!

The movement of the feet is the proper way of doing the tau'olunga. I finally see a tau'olunga here on youtube with the feet moving side to side, which is the right way. There is a palooveape fkTonga 'oku pehee "Hangee ha fu'u niu afaangiaa." Ko e lau eni 'a e kau maatu'a Tongaa when the tau'olunga lady is not moving her feet side-to-side.

wow i haven't seen tau'olunga like this in a long time. to those that think the "foot movement" thing isn't tongan.... it is.. the tau'olunga is changing and unfortunately some do not know what the tau'olunga use to look like :(

@ro2ma thats the traditional way of doing the tau'olunga in Tonga,...tau'olunga is changing the way they use to be back in the days..

@ro2ma I guess shes just dancing to the story that the song is telling (as a Tau'olunga should) hence the feet slapping to "pasi va'e pea ke vilo takai" which means to slap (or clap) the feet then turn around. The Samoan influence to this dance is also directly related to the story of the song which to my knowledge is called Sau'ilunga which is of samoan origin, and also features another samoan word "fa'ataupati" which means to constantly slap.

Yes the feet movement is tongan. My mum said back in the days they had to move their feet like that when they tauolunga. It's only nowadays that the tauolunga is changing sadly.

This is how you dance the real tongan dance. It's not samoan as others think.
And the girl dancing is the daughter of Faifekau Etuate Moimoi.
I know of these things because I have danced all my life in tongan and Etuate is my uncle.
    P.S.-Mal'ie mu'a!CHEEEHOOOO!SEUKE!

Theres a huge difference. When Tongans move their feet in a tau'olunga it looks something like what she's doing. Samoans move their feet way different from what she's doing. Those feet movements she's doing is the only way you can move your feet in a Tongan tau'olunga. Of course other than walking, or slapping it.
