Please speak to SDS/Universal/Dreamworks Animation to release their traditionally animated movies in 4k. They did a good job with Prince of Egypt. Same love needed for Spirit: Stallion of Cimmaron and others. Thanks

Any reason you heard of as to why you still cannot pre order True Lies, The Abyss or Aliens 4k on Amazon US store? Also does Aliens and Abyss 4k come with the extended editions? I pre ordered on B&N but if Amazon has it cheaper I'd love to go through them.

I wish they could release a physical version of a movie first before releasing the digital version. Like the old days. I wonder how that would affect the business model. Maybe it would help boost sales before putting it on a streaming service. They’re not making money on streaming anyway. Might as well try the old model again.

I will agree cheaper is always better, it’s just that for them to release a cheap 4k blue ray player, it wouldn’t be able to support most of todays blue ray formats, with Dolby vision, and Dolby Atmos, or HDR 10 and DTS:X on the disc…

I think 200 on a player is not bad. But that’s me.
Plus both game consoles are capable.

DVD was huge cause streaming didn’t exist.

Physical media came in clutch yesterday when my internet service was out for almost 24 hours which basically turned my smart tv into a dumb tv and my cable box into a brick. Cell reception was also rarely at 2 bars even though I pay for premium 5G+ service. It’s safe to say for rural areas physical media is still an option that shouldn’t go away anytime soon. Thanks for keeping us informed Jeff.

I illegally downloaded movies back in 2011 and was obsessed. I have a terabyte hard drive with probably 1000 movies that I bring out occasionally in those no internet situations. They aren’t all the best quality but at least I have them when needed.

Best Buy getting out of the physical media game is really unfortunate. They always had good prices and I would much rather go to Best Buy than go to Walmart. Now that they are dropping Blu-Rays, I have no reason to go to Best Buy anymore. Aside from a few very rare exceptions, movie purchases are the only reason that I've gone to Best Buy for the last 10 years.

@@mataiguana5 It's quite sad, really. I really remember going to Best Buy in the late 2000s and the movie section was huge. But over time it has been slowly whittled down until, apparently, now it will be completely nonexistent. I hate seeing something I love just die off like that.

After purchasing a brand new Sony 4K Blu-ray player, I decided to purchase 4K discs at Best Buy and Target. I was shocked how small the DVD/Blu-ray section was, almost to non-existent. Now, I have to purchase online…very sad to discover this. I really hope physical media will have a comeback, because watching 4K discs is so much more richer and satisfying to view than streaming.

My biggest problem with Walmart is that my Walmart has very little blu-ray and 4k titles, instead opting for a wide variety of DVD's. The only option I have for instant gratification is to drive one hour into the nearest large city to purchase there. It's very frustrating.

Here in The Netherlands, they decreased a lot of physical media for movies and series. In Media Markt stores they sold a lot of movies and series on blu ray, 4K and DVD, but since 2021 I believe they scaled it down! Now their is only a small department for physical media😢😢. For the last 10 years, a lot of stores have disappeared that sold physical Media. Media Markt is at least the only store nowadays here that sell physical media.
What do I miss the old glory days of the blu ray films and series since the coming of the PS3.

Not anymore - one small shelf of DVDs, not even blu rays and certainly not 4K. In terms of physical shops to browse in for physical media in the UK, it’s all about HMV now.

*I wouldn’t count on Walmart.* My local Walmarts have _significantly_ reduced their physical movie selection. The $5 bins are completely gone & the movie aisle, which was both sides, has been consolidated down to a single side of that aisle. Target had a small section that’s been reduced to an end cap. Online & used stores might be the only places going forward.

I think with Walmart it just totally depends on each location. I do Uber so I'm around my city a ton and stop at a lot of them to check out the movies and some have an insane amount of isles packed and with multiple $5 bins, and some have basically none.

I can't imagine buying my physical media from Walmart. The occasional find, sure, but for them to be the major source of physical media is disheartening. Have you seen how their physical media is treated and mulled over by customers? Not well. It's manhandled so much that corners are dented, scratches are often on the slip cases, and you can hear the discs bouncing around the inside of the case. Good luck finding acceptable copies of media there.

I mean the switching to release every fortnight I think is the move to give stuff more time for titles to clear shelves and for people to get it in time with their paycheck’s. I don’t know outside of the US, but here people typically get paid every two weeks.

Glad Walmart wants to do more and are gonna get the exclusive stuff.
As for the releases for this year, fingers crossed we get a 25th anniversary edition of Pokemon: The First Movie with all the bells and whistles. I know we have the three pack of the movies, but they don’t have a lot of special features. What I’m hoping for is Pokemon: The First Movie to get a 25th anniversary special edition with trailers, commercials, behind-the-scenes stuff, retrospective stuff, etc.
There’s also the big one I’m hoping we get this year and that is the original A Nightmare On Elm Street on 4K. This movie is SORELY needed and wanted by the fans and hopefully it gets all the bells and whistles as well and kicks the door down to get the entire series on 4K and an official release on blu ray for Freddy’s Nightmares.
Ty again for what you do. I love seeing movies getting released and keep the great stuff coming please!
Oh and I agree that collecting physical media is a good thing. With the Pokemon TV app shutting down in March, that proves collecting physical media is a fantastic idea. I have a feeling the channel for Pokemon on here will put up all the free episodes Pokemon TV has, but still, not a bad idea to collect physical media.

Streaming is removing stuff, and people are realizing they don't actually own anything. It disappears..and people start to want to own something. There is also the quality issue. I buy lots of foreign films and anime and it either doesn't exist on streaming or I can't read the Subtitles because of poor bandwidth.

They both haven’t produced any new players in the past 4 to 5 years. It makes me wonder if they plan to jettison the player production. If they do that then I would have to hope my player never stops working since there won’t be any replacements for sale and it would be harder to get repairs done. I don’t want to be left holding hundreds of dollars in disks with no way to play them

I know they must sale a lot of disc to had a return investment but a good price for a 2 disc box its 15 or 20. And another problem it too much content kill the collector. One of the main reasons why I am not having 1000's of discs with me right now is the money factor. I am from India , Everything here is imported so the cost is goddamn high. If a new movie is 30$ in the US here it is 50$. There are zero collections too, these amazon local sellers buy random stuffs. If I need to buy a specific movie even with 50$ it wont be there.

I dont get Best Buy ending Physical media. They reduced the size of the BD section, for what? To put a couple of treamills there? The foot traffic is abysmal at Best Buy, worse than the End of Days for Circuit City.
Everytime I go there, there are at least 3x as many employees as customers.

I wish someone would make a video on the future of physical media. You see, we didn’t think of this ten years ago, but if someone would’ve thought of it, we might all have thousands on our shelves. By this I mean, all physical stuff, from trading cards to statues and dvds will be gone by 2030, so that stuff will be in huge demand in 15-20yrs. If you have a vhs of Top Gun from the 80’s right now, it will probably sell for thousands in 2030. Look how companies are handling digital, they’re converting everything to it or there’s at least a digital version… for now.

Best Buy pushes high end home theater, but doesn’t support 4k Blu-ray. Boggles my mind.
Target will probably stay in since they are also absorbing Best Buy customers. I’ve already bought four from them. Going from never buying from them. Lol
Side note. I have Aliens, The Abyss, and True Lies preordered at three different stores. lol Not taking a risk one bit of not getting them without slip covers.

Thats because dvds sell the best.its the technology with the biggest installation base. More ppl have a dvd player than a bluray or 4k... also, its the cheapest format to produce, and sell at the lowest price.

@@NYC_Goody 95% of everything will never get released in that format. You bought into a gimmick just like ppl did with laser disc's it's just like when ppl said 'I can't find atari jaguar, or 3do or dream cast stuff anywhere'..... well of course you can't, because so few ppl have one. Why would a discount retailer carry media for such a niche product? The only reason they sell vinyl is because many many ppl still have turntables from 50 yrs ago.

    • @NYC_Goody
      @NYC_Goody 8 місяців тому +1

@@kurtshastany1945 it's certainly not a gimmick when I'm watching a picture quality that clearly looks better than DVD and a wide majority of blu rays on my OLED. A good transfer can't be understated. There's a reason why electronic stores like Best buy sell high end electronics like oleds. It's for enthusiasts. Just like physical media in general is for enthusiasts. Because PQ will look better than streams. And the highest quality format is also for enthusiasts. It's not a gimmick.

Creator, why are you not addressing discs coming pre-scratched from manufacturer? Why are you not addressing that they need to put some kind of piece of foam in between both hubs so the disks don’t hop off the hub and scratch themselves as well these are two really big problems on top of the release chemical that’s all over the inside of the cases and that gets on the discs, how come you’re not addressing this with the production teams
