Thank you for putting this together. The reliability, while real, I think is somewhat overblown. Sure, there are issues (I’ve had my own), and most are fixable under warranty. For me, the driving pleasure of these cars is unreal. I’ve been a Porsche GT fanboy/owner for years and the McLaren’s offer an incredible driving experience. Mechanically most are sound and reliable. Sure, electronic gremlins appear, and the community is readily available to help you mitigate and move on. They’re a good bunch of owners. I’ll step down off my soapbox. My point is, I think drivers are missing a diamond in the rough due to high depreciation and ‘reliability’ in the McLarens. Enjoy your ride!
I agree with you 100%. I just bought a 2016 650S and absolutely love it! Came from a Porsche 991.1 S and bo comparison. The bang for the buck is insane and in my opinion, a steal when compared to cars in its category, such as the Lamborghini Huracán and Ferrari 458.
Totally correct. These cars are reliable. The small issues I have had on my car have been caused by shit mechanics working on it. I now work on mine and check everything they do to make sure being a mechanic myself.
They’re so reliable that a friend of mine sold his dealership. The factory support was terrible and the cars were hit and missed. Their guys spent most of their time dealing with failures FROM THE FACTORY. This was the first time I’d ever had inside knowledge of how a dealership works. Your playing Russian roulette just buying one much less owning one. I’d much rather (and I did) put my money in a Porsche GT car. Much more reliable

Very well done. I would add one other bit of concern about McLaren's in general is the lack of a strong aftermarket supporting McLaren cars. There is virtually no aftermarket support for McLaren so if something does goes wrong, the factory/dealer is the only source for spares, etc. There really is no other source for spares, other than wrecked cars being parted out. Porsche, Ferrari, and many others have a healthy aftermarket supporting those brands. Maybe a look at that data in a future video???
Remember "common-folk" watching on UA-cam. The car may depreciate in price and seems affordable. Repairs, Service, Maintenance and Unexpected Repairs DONT DEPRECIATE.
Mclarens are reliable as any other supercar, owners please post as I, I am a 12c owner, no major issues at all. Love it. This guys videos are always great to see there is nothing else like them.
The cars are very hit or miss. A local guy got a 765lt at launch and sold it a few weeks later due to repeated electrical issues with the car. There is also several early 720s owners who have sold their cars due to various issues. It seems like some later 12c and 2018+ 720s are mostly reliable. 650s also seems very hit or miss depending on the year and 570s have been overall solid
I hate to bust your bubble there Mac guy, but I have a friend who owned a DEALERSHIP and the factory support was so bad he sold it. It made his dealer support for his customers suffer. As far as your 12C goes wait till your steering rack goes. You’ll have to take out another mortgage to get it fixed. I wouldn’t touch a McClaren with my neighbors money
No issues at all with my 12c spider. Just love to drive it. More exciting than my ferraris. Let see if my last acquisition, the 458 spider will have more “zing” as Jeremy Clarkson said so well😄
The reality is the common folks who can’t afford them and and any supercars will bash them. Then there’re those who can barely afford a Porsche and think they have the best ride in the world and just being sour about those who own supercars. McLaren are like any other bespoke supercars and they do tend to have problems now and then but not serious ones. Those who have owned 911s and other brands like Ferrari etc. knows McLaren makes great supercars and enjoy them. Their engines are super reliable and there are however idiots who remap or retune their engines which causes problems.
so you're telling me the cylinderhead's valve's that crack after so many thunderings are nothing I need to worry about, or the cast connecting rods and pistons that break at low oil levels and higher mileage or a engine tune forcing greater heat and stress never meant to be there are all things I need not worry about. And the myriad of failing sensors and poor quality built connectors originally built are nothing to worry about either. Well , sir, you are just an inspiration of confident self reliability regarding all things McLaren. Wow .
If you look at owners experience with McLarens now you will find that the bad reputation is way over blown. Look at the ones for sale at MP4-12C, they have over 20,000 miles on them! Way more than you’ll find on Ferraris etc.
I really appreciate the time and dedication behind these videos. I would love to see an analysis on the Huracan Performante as the prices (especially of the spyder) had a huge increase over the last years.
What do you think the rising interest rates and current status of the market will do to exotic car values in general? I cannot imagine that with the cash spigot turned off that all of these cars will maintain their increase? What do you think
Most of this is unsurprising considering that McLaren have acquired a fairly poor post sale service reputation and that servicing costs, even by supercar standards, are taking the piss
Would u do an update for 2023? Pandemic is over. Keen to know if 570s will depreciate further from here on or Will rather hold value as production stopped and new gen is hybrid so old piece being all ice may start to appreciate?
To me for the money, a Corvette or Porsche is the way to go. Strong backing as far as reliability and isn't as expensive to work on as these super high end cars
Low mileage is a misnomer that potential buyers of McLarens need to be careful of. A McLaren that has been used will have had most of its problems sorted and is a much better bet for reliable supercar. I've had my 720s for 2.5 years, it had 4500miles when I bought it, and it now has almost 15,000 miles, the longer I keep it and the more miles I drive it the less issues I appear to have. I would like a 675LT and out of preference I would most likely buy the highest mileage one I can find. One day perhaps, but I'm enjoying my 720 too much for now.
These videos are so cool and informative to watch! As a 12C and 650S fan, I'd say at the prices they're going for, they are far better deals than most of their rivals. I'd personally have either of these over a Huracan or R8 2nd gen for sure.
Current 720S for sale are very strong and holding. In some cases increasing. I was offered more for my 720s after I put 2k miles on it than I had paid for it.
if McLaren's are reliable then why are extended warranties (McLaren and independent specialist) so expensive. because they break often and when they do it's expensive lol
If McLaren made parts more available and affordable more buyers would feel safer buying their cars and being ambassadors of the brand. Instead they roll out so many variants with the same power plants, poor quality and poor reliability. They’re going bankrupt.
