Secure the Wastes is kind of nuts with that new white mana rock. Give it convoke, tap all your creatures and all your mana, and make a ton of tokens on the end step.
@@Arrok My first commander was Trostani, and I ran that in there, but it is two extra mana (functionally one). I do like the idea of having multiple spells like it though
I am just now getting back into magic, I haven't played since Beta days, and I have to say, watching you guys has been a huge help for me to understand all the new rules and tricks for present day magic, so much has changed. Thank you so much, watching you guys play together has been amazing, and helped me jump back in, and share my love for magic with my kids, passing it on to the next gen.
Pretty decent reprints, in particular Impact Tremors needs to be accessible to everyone. Seems like a fun theme, the new supporting cards look reasonable. And I think I might finally have a useful Vehicle for Kalamax in Deluxe Dragster! I've been trying to find extra ways to tap Kalamax down, and vehicles would be great for that if any of them cared about spellslinging.
I have done some playtesting and this commander is so fun. After a couple changes, I had Jeskai Ascendancy, the new Invasion of Segovia flipped, and a token generator and ended up playing pretty much my whole deck on accident on turn 4 using Kasla to keep drawing non-creature spells to convoke out with the flipped battle.
Rachel has probably been the best thing to ever happen to the Command Zone. I really love Commanders Sphere, and i was super happy when i heard she was joining yall! Treat her right!
So interesting interactions with Kykar and convoke here! Magic rules allow you to pay costs for a spell in any order! You can convoke creatures before deciding to activate mana abilities, which includes sacrificing them for mana! (This also works with sacrificing creatures to pay a cost before spending mana, which has odd interactions with mono-green Omnath lol). This means that with kykar out, you can convoke a spell, and then sacrifice spirits for mana to pay for the same spell!
Funny enough, this is the exact reason they switched from Gold to Treasure tokens. Gold tokens didn't tap to sac and add mana, so they allowed you to double-dip when casting spells with Improvise.
Thanks for this, came to the comments to see if someone had pointed this. I thought this was the case but wasn't 100% sure (it's filed away in my brain in "edge cases I think I've heard of but never seen in practice")
I don't believe you are correct. As I understand it you need to activate any mana abilities before you start paying the cost of the spell, and with a convoke spell you tap creatures instead of paying the cost. This doesn't allow you to go: pay cost > activate mana ability > pay cost. You can pay costs in different orders, but sacrificing a creature to gain a mana is NOT paying a cost, it's activating a mana ability - and you need to activate all mana abilities before you start paying costs. 601.2g If the total cost includes a mana payment, the player then has a chance to activate mana abilities (see rule 605, “Mana Abilities”). Mana abilities must be activated before costs are paid. 702.51a Convoke is a static ability that functions while the spell with convoke is on the stack. “Convoke” means “For each colored mana in this spell’s total cost, you may tap an untapped creature of that color you control rather than pay that mana. For each generic mana in this spell’s total cost, you may tap an untapped creature you control rather than pay that mana.” Example: Heartless Summoning says, in part, “Creature spells you cast cost {2} less to cast.” You control Heartless Summoning and cast Siege Wurm, a spell with convoke that costs {5}{G}{G}. The total cost to cast Siege Wurm is {3}{G}{G}. After activating mana abilities, you pay that total cost. You may tap up to two green creatures and up to three other creatures to pay that cost, and the remainder is paid with mana. The example is directly from the rules PDF.
One card that would be PERFECT to add to a convoke deck like this is one which is already basically a Convoke card- Sephara, Sky's Blade. Would add in some protection giving everything else Indestructible and even though it's a 7 CMC card, you can pay for the mana cost by tapping other creatures (Convoke)
I think we need to add some more convoke cards if we go with the face commander or ways to tutor out that mana rock which gives our spells convoke. But overall looks cool. The secondary commander might be a cool build around too.
Seems like another precon where there are two possible commanders, and the other 98 cards are kind of a middle ground between both, so depending on which you pick as your commander you can adjust the 99 to lean more in one direction or another
Wand of the worldsoul is going to be the chase card of this precon, easily fits in all white token decks and means any spell could come out of nowhere (aside from seeing the wand on board) from being nearly tapped out, which is very powerful.
The first groups of cards to look at to add to this deck that immediately came to mind are cards with Inspired and the merfolk cards from Lorwyn. Lorwyn merfolk cared about becoming tapped, and Inspired creatures care about becoming untapped but had no inherent way to tap other than attacking. God-Favored General, Aerie Worshippers, Satyr Nyx-Smith, Stonybrook Schoolmaster all make more tokens; Arbiter of the Ideal cheats things out; Scaretiller ramps; Sphinx's Disciple and Fallowsage draw; Surgespanner bounces permanents; Magda makes treasures; Grimoire Thief exile-mills; Unctus loots, Reckless Racer rummages; there's a few that scry or ping; etc. Obviously Intruder Alarm and Drumbellower are great, but a good budget option or third redundance is Reveille Squad. And while there is the downside of making your creatures enter tapped, False Floor can easily be a one-sided board wipe in this deck.

I honestly haven't bought a precon in a while, but this one looks really freaking good! I might buy it and just leave it as the precon, it just looks that well put together.
I've been playing magic long enough now that most of the high value reprints are already cards that I own. Kykar was the only one out the over 5's I don't have yet! Definitely makes the deck less attractive to me, but I liked the new cards a lot more than the last few releases. May have to pick up some of those!
Awesome reveal! Not sure if I would try out this Commander deck, but options are always a plus.
