Things in Marpha are better than how it used to be before China "liberated" Tibet. But obviously, things in Tibet are now better than they are in Marpha. I've been to both, so I can say Marpha is as poor as a nomad without her animals and Tibet in China is as rich as the smartest stockbroker, though I've made but some forgivably insignificant exaggerations.
