Hanyu performed this at a charity show after the 2011 tsunami that killed nearly 20,000 people in his hometown and surrounding areas. He said that it was when he saw the audience all on their feet cheering for him, some in tears, that he finally found his purpose in continuing figure skating. To me his expression at the beginning of the program shows the pain, sadness and uncertainty that he said he felt when he looked up the sky on that darkest night; when so many stars were shining brightly because there was no city light. I am so thankful that he looked up and kept pursuing his dream. Please be safe, healthy and peaceful, Yuzuru Hanyu.
yeah, that feeling is horrible. in my country we're in a bad situation economically, and the pandemic didn't help, so I think I can relate to that thing of watching at the sky and feeling sadness, pain and scariness, but reading this brings me hope about a new shining sky in the future!

We are not like Japan which has an early warning system, so at that time we lost more than 200,000 people. Yes, I know the feeling. In the dark of night, we still have stars in the sky. But I really admire Yuzu. He works hard and never gives up, being an inspiration to others. Always committed to contributing to the reconstruction of Sendai (his hometown)
I really love your interpretation. I saw beautiful, fragile creatures struggling to survive and live though in extremely tough situations in this program. It is so touching. And I really wanna cry. Though he was only19 that time, his performance was already so touching. And I just love the sit twizzles at the end of this program. It is just like the beautiful swan, feeling tired and taking a rest on the lake after all there sufferings.
If you are able to feel and express the music like this at 17, you are born to be on that ice. That is why 8 years later he is still the greatest of all time. Unmatched.
Yuzuru has the clarity that figure skating is not just jumps, but elegance, sequence of steps, costume and choice of music. What is FIGURE SKATING? Figure skating is everything Yuzuru Hanyu includes in his performances. As a commentator once said: Yuzuru is poetry in skating, while other skaters are just strength in jumping and nothing else. The ISU has a lot to learn.
In his autobiography, he also mentioned skating is a means to deliver message. ie to conduct a direct communication with audiences all over the world. By so doing, a connection is just made. Thus his many routines, be it for competition or exhibition gala, touch our hearts and souls so deeply and profoundly.

"Time disappears"--yes, that's exactly it! I will be watching one of his videos and the next thing I know, an hour has passed because I have stopped it so many times and replayed parts several times so I can take the exact still shots that speak to me. Some may be blurry, but my heart feels them all!
I am so glad that I am the one to realize him since he was 15. Almost everyone could understand that he was just different and better. Others are on the line from the past of this competition while he is new. And he just does not care about it.
