- Dean Lyons talks about the Haas School's four defining principles. (December 2009)
The University of California Berkeley Haas School of Business is one of the world's leading producers of new ideas and knowledge in all areas of business - which includes the distinction of having two of its faculty members receive the Nobel Prize in Economics over the past 15 years. The school offers six degree-granting programs. Its mission is to develop innovative business leaders - individuals who redefine how we do business by putting new ideas into action, and who do so responsibly. The school's distinctive culture is defined by four key principles - question the status quo; confidence without attitude; students always; and, beyond yourself.

I got in! Fours years later ... Unfortunately, we are failing to support these principles. Universities like UC Berkeley have this internal story they tell themselves about questioning the status quo etc. In reality, students rarely ask questions in class-- let alone question the system itself.
I love these principles and they align with my life philosophy. I admit I am surprised and delighted to hear them from a business school. I am inspired!!
I like the values of Haas a lot. The principles are literally the recipe for success, and, most important, they aren't centered around oneself. It's all about serving others...It's one of the reasons I really want to go there. I can't wait to attend (If I'm accepted of course :D)...

i am going to challenge your status quo and say that having Unrealistic expectactions is not a bad thing to have.
