Thanks for the word. I was excited that you reviewed this one. This one is my favorite of the trilogy and the tune of that pocket watch still haunts me since the first time I've seen it.
You watched these out of order - It's FIST FULL OF DOLLARS - FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE - then THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY... But at least you watched the whole MAN WITH NO NAME TRILOGY...You should check out THEY CALL ME NOBODY - it is also from SERGIO LEONE -
I always thought FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE has the best ending to any movie ever. The running theme of all Sergio Leone's movies, I feel is about freindship. One's you can trust and one's that you can't, and the fine line between them. Some of the best films ever made, and they still hold up today after more than a half century.
So you are not confused, although these films have many of the same actors these are not reoccurring characters even Clint was not necessarily originally meant to be the same character. It was only later that these films became known as the man with no name trilogy.
Correct, "The Man With No Name" was an American marketing gimmick when the films were released in the USA, starting in 1967. Having said that, even though Leone never said Clint was playing the same character (maybe he wanted to keep it a mystery), there are many indications he was.
@@thundernels you're good my dude. Near the end of Californiablend's post-movie commentary, she'd figured out that those same actors were playing different characters. The only recurring character in the trilogy was Clint's "man with no name" character. I think Wileyjdraws was mostly talking to anyone who might have been confused when they saw the same actor(s) play a similar role, and perhaps were led to believe they were reprising the same character. I'll admit when I first saw the "Dollars Trilogy," I initially thought Lee Van Cleef and Gian Maria Volonté was playing the same character. I soon realized they weren't the same characters; but nevertheless I was confused at my first viewing.
"For A Few Dollars More": Lee Van Cleef's "Col. Douglas Mortimer" international breakout role. 1:54 The right tool for the right job. 3:19 "Aces High" plays on the piano for Baby's last Poker game. 4:51 El Indio and his "worth lots of money" gang. 6:00 "Sixty Seconds To What." 7:14 Fernando the Hustler. 8:00 These characters wouldn't appear in a Hollywood Western. 10:22 My introduction to actor Klaus Kinski as The Hunchback. 12:19 "The station; go inside" sketch that leads to a "hat contest." 17:42 Eggs for breakfast, but not Sunny Side Up. 21:15 Apple Picking time. 22:28 A small gun for the Hunchback. 24:12 Yep, Indio's no idiot. 25:15 Double Cross. 27:25 You didn't fool me! 29:20 The tale of the clock chime. 30:09 Level playing field. 32:07 "Twenty two?"
Great watching you watch these classic westerns. I really really hope you watch "Once Upon A Time In The West". Sergio Leone did that right after "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" and it's really his masterpiece. No Clint, but it has Henry Fonda (as the bad guy!), Charles Bronson, and Jason Robards. Also has a great female character played by Italian actress Claudia Cardinale.
In Once Upon a Time in the West Sergio Leone finally had the freedom to do a movie he wrote, and used his platform to flip the script as he was tired of hispanics always being seen as the bag guys when the real bandits of that time were the wealthy white men.
Also in dual roles: Groggy from Indio's gang was Father Ramirez in GBU. The boy who earned money off of Clint was a son of the man killed by Angel Eyes early in GBU.
As good as the title track music for the Good The Bad and The Ugly is, I always thought that the title track For a Few Dollars More was just a little bit better. But you can't go wrong with any of Ennio Morricone's legendary western music.
Nobody should forget about Edda Dell'Orso too! And now, put your best headphones and check the "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly - The Danish National Symphony Orchestra" youtube videos, with Tuva Semmingsen and Christine Nonbo Andersen :)

This is my favorite of the trilogy, but you have got to see "Once Upon a Time in the West." It's like the "Citizen Kane" of westerns. Since I haven't seen anyone else mention it, I'm also going to recommend "My Name is Nobody" which is funny, exciting and surprisingly poignant.

I loved this movie. It was a work of art. I must say that what makes the Good, the bad, and the ugly better, is that it's got the best character of the whole trilogy. Tuco! He was one of the most fascinating characters ever, played by an absolutely amazing actor.

@@TheMusterion76 Nah. What that filmed lacked for me was that unlike all of the Clint Eastwood films here in these spaghetti Westerns, and Charles Bronson in Once upon a Time in the West is the man with no name antihero main figure. Also it did not take place in the classic 1800s but in the early 1900s with even a motorcycle in it. I agree it was a good film but it really doesn't compare to the mystique of these others.

@@TheMusterion76 okay. But all of the points that I've made in response to your first comment to me still stand. Duck you Sucker just doesn't have the same mystique of those earlier westerns by Sergio Leone.
Lee Van Cleef made his film debut as a member of the cast of the classic Western, High Noon (1952), starring Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly. He appeared in dozens of films in a career spanning four decades. Here are the titles of many classics of the genre beyond the three Leone films -- along with some of his later films -- Dawn at Socorro (1954), Gunfight at the O.K. Corral (1957), The Tin Star (1957), Day of the Badman (1958), Ride Lonesome (1959), The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962), Death Rides a Horse (1967), Sabata (1969), The Stranger and the Gunfighter (1974), The Rip-Off (1980), and Escape from New York (1981).
I think The Good the Bad and the Ugly is the best of the three in terms of cinematography and music, but I think this movie has the best story of the three. I definitely like Indio as the villain the most among Angel Eyes and Ramon. Tuco is my favorite movie character of all time so GBU has a personal bias.
I love watching you work through the fact that the characters in this film are not the same characters in the previous films. The just used the same actors.
Just loving your reactions to this trilogy....please keep it up! :) I'll echo what other people suggested with Once Upon a Time in the West as your next reaction. No Clint or Lee in this one, but it is both Sergio Leone and Ennio Morricone at their very best! If you feel this emotional listening to the musical pocket watch, then "C'era una volta il West" will definitely get you misty eyed.
You should try the comedy versions of these old westerns as well, now that you've finished the mandatory trilogy. With "My name is Trinity" with Terrence Hill and Bud Spencer. Classic. If you want to see more serious westerns I recommend "Once upon a time in the west"

Death Rides A Horse is another great Lee van Cleef film. You gotta check out Once Upon A Time in the West, tho, it's Sergio Leone's best work in my opinion.
I love your reactions when you're so excited about something. You have a great smile and laugh. Someone else said it in another comment, but I think Sergio Leone's best movie is Once Upon a Time in the West, with Henry Fonda and Charles Bronson. Another great western worth seeing is the original Magnificent Seven (1960) with Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, and James Coburn. I don't know if you've seen it yet, but I think Tombstone is the best of the modern westerns. James Garner has done some great comedy westerns; Support Your Local Sheriff is a good one.
Have you watched 'The Quick And The Dead'? Long before Tarantino started making 'spaghetti westerns', Sam Raimi came out with his own. It's largely forgotten, but incredible.
@@mariochavez2910 I’m not sure I’d call it incredible, but I did like it. Gene Hackman is always good, and seeing Sharon Stone in cowboy wear didn’t hurt 😉 Should definitely be on the list, but I stand by my statement that I think Tombstone is the best of the modern westerns I have seen, which I consider westerns from the 80s til now
When I was a kid we went to the drive in a lot in the summer and this was one I saw. It is such a great Hollywood (even though it’s Italian) film with the setting the actors and the mood, music it’s all such a great MOVIE! Great choice.

Great reaction Gabby and EXTRA PROPS for being really consistent with these films lately you cover a wide range of genres. 🙌🏻 When you want to revisit more Clint Westerns I'd recommend High Plains Drifter, Pale Rider & The Outlaw Josey Wales. Also although Clint is the King of Westerns... You have to see Dirty Harry!! Clint is a San Francisco cop and you see a different side to his bad assness in this!
you are the alex and andy of movie reactions very technical very observant very intelligent topped off with your animated narration. i love watching you!
You're obviously a huge fan of Sergio Leone, welcome to the club (it's a big club). This movie saw Leone use two small flashback scenes to explain where the watch (which as you astutely pointed out became a main character itself) originated. Leone would go on to use a strategically placed longer flashback scene (and another musical object that becomes a character) to explain his protagonist's motivation in his operatic Western masterpiece Once Upon A Time In The West, and then he would go on to use multiple flashback scenes combined with powerful music to give a backstory to co-main character "John" in his uneven, extremely violent, and once again beautifully scored film Duck You Sucker (sometimes called Fistful Of Dynamite), which dabbled in political themes for the first time. This would ultimately lead to his final film, the epic inner city gangster drama Once Upon A Time In America, where the nearly 4 hour movie and story is essentially all told as flashbacks (or an opium induced dream as some believe it to be). I look forward to watching your review for every one of those films.
This is my favorite. Clint and Van Cleef squaring off and then teaming up (in their own way lol) and then throw in Indio's disturbing character. All Angel Eyes really wanted was revenge. Such a satisfying ending. Great reaction, I love how much you get into it.
I have really enjoyed your enthusiastic reactions to these classic Italian westerns. I hope you'll be watching what I consider to be Sergio Leone's masterpiece, ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST.
This one is definitely my favorite one of the three. Another really good spaghetti western is They call me Trinity and the sequel, My name is still Trinity.
After watching the film several times, what sticks with me is how twisted the character of Indio is. You can tell something broke inside him after that woman killed herself in front of him. He still kills, robs and gets revenge, but mechanically, without any joy. And he has a death wish. He gives some of his enemies a small chance to killing him, and welcomes the main characters into his gang knowing they may be his undoing. That he keeps the watch to remind him of everything is icing on top, just as that he doesn't bother to tell the other gangmember why he keeps it.
Great reaction. If you are really enjoying these "Spaghetti Westerns" by Sergio Leone, strongly recommend the lighthearted film "My Name Is Nobody" which has been said was Sergio Leone's farewell to Spaghetti Westerns. He did not direct it but was involved with developing the storyline from my understanding. Excellent story with a great ending. Terence Hill and Henry Fonda are excellent in it! Music was composed by Ennio Morricone for this one, too.
Your ranking is the same as mine. I never thought about how effective three main characters are to Leone stories, but I think you're right. You'll see some of that in "Once Upon A Time In The West", too. Great reaction!
Clarence Leroy ( Lee) Van Cleef (1/9/1952-12/16/1989) is not playing "Angel Eyes" he's playing Col. Douglas Mortimer. His first movie was "HIGH NOON" 1952 ,he was Jack Colby he no lines. Clint doesn't smoke, only his character for these three movies.
I LOVE that you are enjoying this genre of movies! They are classics and you don't see them like these anymore. Look up the movies that Lee Van Cleef was in, he played Angel Eyes.
The G B and U was a film based in the 1863 time frame...this one occured, based on the Colt pistols being used, sometime after 1873, when the Peacemaker was introduced. I chuckled at the comment about Mortimer...
I LOVE that you watch and react to Spaghetti Westerns. They cemented the careers of some huge and incredibly talented actors. It’s just nice to see them get some praise from modern audiences! Keep doing what you do! I loved your reaction to Oredator so is there any chance you could react to Prey? It’s aesthetic is incredible!
I think you'll like "Once upon a time in the west", it isn't part of the Dollars series, Clint turned down the part, if he hadn't then it surely would have been. One of my top Eastwood "western" is "The outlaw Josey Wales", maybe not quite as grand as these but one very memorable movie, great characters.
You should check out The Outlaw Josie Wales and Pale Rider. As far as Sergio Leone westerns you MUST watch "Once Upon a Time in the West", it's a MASTERPIECE.
Not sure how clear it was in first viewing, but Indio always won his duels because he'd listened to that tune so many times that he knew exactly when it would end and he could shoot. The two watches weren't exactly the same, so in the final showdown the advantage went to Mortimer, because he had also listened to his own watch so many times.
The 50 cents the kid earned was not two quarters. It was a 50 cent piece. You will notice it was just one coin. I am 83 years old and when I was a kid this was in use all the time. It was also called a half dollar or 4bits.
I think Douglas knew who Indio was. And when he saw that wanted poser, he recognized him as the man who killed his sister. That's why he wanted to track him down and kill him and used Clint's character to help him do that. So, at the end just before the shootout, when Indio pulled out the pocket watch, Douglas already knew he had it. It was no surprise to him. He was only surprised when he heard his own pocket watch start to play and saw that Clint had stolen it from him and showed up with it. Which actually worked to his benefit because otherwise, Indio would have killed Douglas since his rifle was on the ground. Clint's character showed up and evened the odds by interjecting giving Douglas a holster and pistol.

Ok,....now ONCE UPON A TIME IN The WEST, it's not Clint Eastwood, but , Charles Bronson, Henry Fonda and Jason Roberts, ,but it's the same director and the same type of movie
You would love "Play Misty For Me", it's a different side of Clint Eastwood.
You know takin me back to enjoy these classics again...i truly appreciate enjoying again with you.
Death Rides A Horse is another great Lee van Cleef film. You gotta check out Once Upon A Time in the West, tho, it's Sergio Leone's best work in my opinion.
ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST is Leone'e masterpiece. A must see.
Love your reaction, I agree with you, this one was slightly better than the Good ,Bad and the ugly, I just love the plot about colonel Douglas motivation to go after Indio, magnificent movie!
Really great analysis. This film was my personal favourite of the Dollars trilogy. Subbed 😊
Immaculate is perfect description of Leone's direction.
Great reaction Gabby and EXTRA PROPS for being really consistent with these films lately you cover a wide range of genres. 🙌🏻
When you want to revisit more Clint Westerns I'd recommend
High Plains Drifter, Pale Rider & The Outlaw Josey Wales.
Also although Clint is the King of Westerns... You have to see Dirty Harry!!
Clint is a San Francisco cop and you see a different side to his bad assness in this!
Thanks for coming along the journey!
you are the alex and andy of movie reactions very technical very observant very intelligent topped off with your animated narration. i love watching you!
Waits for Hang 'em high. I see you're going by year. '68 is when it came out.
"ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST", now ! 😃
Time Trilogy >>>>>> Dollars Trilogy
The best scene of the movie is when Boy shows up with Colonel Mortimer’s watch playing the same music.
Masterpiece ever. Greatness
This is my favorite. Clint and Van Cleef squaring off and then teaming up (in their own way lol) and then throw in Indio's disturbing character. All Angel Eyes really wanted was revenge. Such a satisfying ending. Great reaction, I love how much you get into it.
Great review! Loved watching this movie with you. And yes, the pocket watch was pivotal.
I have really enjoyed your enthusiastic reactions to these classic Italian westerns. I hope you'll be watching what I consider to be Sergio Leone's masterpiece, ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST.
Here’s another vote for “The Outlaw Josey Wales.”
Another great reaction, I hope you carry on with the Clint Eastwood reactions 😊
"Every Which Way but Loose" (1978) is a unique Eastwood starring movie.
Next to watch - "Once Upon in the West" and "Fistful of Dynamite" :)
You might also want to check out Appaloosa, Open Range or the two True Grit versions.
This one is definitely my favorite one of the three. Another really good spaghetti western is They call me Trinity and the sequel, My name is still Trinity.
Another good Lee Van Cleef western is "Sabata" from 1969.
Object as a character is often called a MacGuffin widely attributed to the great Director Alfred Hitchcock😉
Please watch the great silence. One of the best westerns. My 3rd fav just behind the good the bad and the ugly and once upon a time in the West
"24:13" had full volume on my headphones. You made my ears exploding 🎧😅. Still had a great time with your reaction🙂
This western was the 2nd of the Sergioni Trilogy with Eastwood.
1. A fistful of Dollars
2. For a few dollars more
3. The Good, The Bad & The Ugly.
My older sisters took me with them to watch "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly," at a drive-in. They loved Clint Eastwood.
Dont skip "Once Upon A Time In The West" and "My Name Is Nobody"
After watching the film several times, what sticks with me is how twisted the character of Indio is. You can tell something broke inside him after that woman killed herself in front of him. He still kills, robs and gets revenge, but mechanically, without any joy. And he has a death wish. He gives some of his enemies a small chance to killing him, and welcomes the main characters into his gang knowing they may be his undoing. That he keeps the watch to remind him of everything is icing on top, just as that he doesn't bother to tell the other gangmember why he keeps it.
"They Call Me Trinity" and "Trinity is Still My Name".....a couple of funny westerns.
Totally awesome. Thanks for doing this. Another great of this era....!
Absolutely wonderful explanation at the end. Thank you!
Thought I was having trouble with my adding...... Its alright now🤣
Your ranking is the same as mine.
ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST is a great Leone Western.
For a Few is my favorite out of the trilogy!
One of my top Eastwood "western" is "The outlaw Josey Wales", maybe not quite as grand as these but one very memorable movie, great characters.
great reaction to one of my favs, been watching these since I was a kid, love all
Clint's work
You should check out The Outlaw Josie Wales and Pale Rider. As far as Sergio Leone westerns you MUST watch "Once Upon a Time in the West", it's a MASTERPIECE.
I just came back to this again.... yet again, a superb explanation at the end how it affected you. Keep up the great work.
Thank you!
Hello California Blend, the object in " Nevada Smith " was a tobacco pouch.
California Blend you have awesome movie reactions and so shout-out to ya from southern New Mexico 🤠🤠
Oh snap! This is going to be very cool 🤗
The 50 cents the kid earned was not two quarters. It was a 50 cent piece. You will notice it was just one coin. I am 83 years old and when I was a kid this was in use all the time. It was also called a half dollar or 4bits.
Love your fresh takes on the Classics 😊👍✌️🇺🇸
"The Outlaw Josey Wales" is my personal favorite Clint Eastwood movie.
I'm surprised more people don't suggest it or react to it.
