Manners for Missionaries 4: "Visual Poise for Sisters" (1994)

- This video is aimed at teaching etiquette to everyone but is aimed primarily at full-time LDS missionaries. While not an official production of either Brigham Young University or the LDS Church, the creators were faculty and instructors for both BYU and the Provo MTC, and the film has been shown at many missions through the world over the past two decades.
This segment covers how women should pick things up, enter and exit vehicles, and present themselves as sister missionaries.
I’ll never understand why they went to this much effort to teach us not to expose our legs, but wouldn’t let us wear pants, which cover the entire leg. 🤦♀️
It’s pretty contradictory, huh? We don’t want you to be too feminine to tempt the men, but we also need you to be slightly feminine, just enough to please the men. 🤦🏻♀️
Right?! It’s totally counterintuitive
My mission did not also sisters to ride bikes. :( yet we had to walk in the wind with blowing skirts!
Is there a "Visual Poise for Elders" video??? Any videos about how elders should sit and behave so they look more refined and pretty???
The Elders will come off quite differently if they look refined and pretty. 😆
Came here to say the same thing. There’s no equal counterpart video like this for the men.
Oh my God thank you that was the best 4 minutes of my life
...when farting always remember to lift up one leg.
With such long skirts, how can sitting immodestly be an issue?
It's all in the mind of the mission President looking down from the pulpit.
The missionary position... for sister missionary's....
Buahaha, I know this was 8 months ago but that is so funny XD
6 years have gone...it is no more funny
Really? REALLY?! WE NEED A "HOW TO SIT" VIDEO?!?!
you would need a detailed cheat sheet for the whole chair sitting thing
Stepford wives trainer. You too can conform.
These things used to be taught in finishing schools. I’m guessing you’re working class because you can’t appreciate women being trained to carry themselves femininely.
Two good reasons, your front and your back. - Word
Jefferson Montoya giggity
@@cruisergear9601 I'll see your giggity and raise you another giggity.
This was common practice for all women prior to the 60's.
Hang on, is this the 1950's or the 90's? Im confused...

This is stage 1 of a broad plan to modernize the missionary program. Unbeknownst to them, the sisters are being trained in preparation for when they will be replaced with robots. Once the sisters emotional and physical conditioning is complete and they are no longer discernible from their robot replacements, the seamless transition can go forward undetected.
Did you say, a BROAD plan?
And I wonder why Im a medicated wreck now...
Hey, are you okay?
Oh no, the Church made me sit nicely and read the Bible, my life is ruined🙄
If a video like this ruined you, you are one weak individual.
@@ViaticalTree jesus loves you
Hivemind conditioning.
This literally used to be the standard for all European women lol
"One mission president had to make the front row of meetings off limits for sisters because they couldn't sit modestly. Don't let that be said of you." I'm like how about the mission president keeps his eyes to himself instead of looking at the sisters in the front row? And who is saying what to who? Who the fuck cares haha.
I'm guessing the church at that time wanted their female missionaries to have the image of a high class lady.
It still does. Most any organization welcomes such a thing.
I just can't right now. So glad I am not in the church any more! They have rules for EVERYTHING!
Aerodil It's definitely not like this video is antiquated and counts as doctrine.
@@dvnbrennan1Seems more like some people will complain about anything, includint 40-year-old videos.
This video is a wonderful reminder of what a horrible world we live in.
Kek.
If this is what keeps you up at night, I hate to imagine what 2020 and 2021 did to you
😂
OMG, they should just be allowed pants. I didn't know any of this when I joined. I was used to pants. (I was a convert in 1997). I did leave the church.
You'll always be welcome back🙂
Glad I escaped this cult
If you believe we are a cult clearly you never made an effort to understood the Gospel of Jesus Christ- therefore I'm glad you did too!
Great video.
My mother calls this deportment!
Even in the 1980s, she said some teaches at school would teach these things👍👏
She said it has served her well especially while serving, and also for job interviews 😉👍
❤
This entire missionary series is already full of thousands of menial, arbitrary rules, on top of this segment which has hundreds of “rules” that sister missionaries are to follow while physically moving, at all times, in order to not inadvertently flash a little extra leg. All that constant effort these women are expected to put forth to prevent the corruption of men who might see above their ankles and commit a thought sin.
“Knees together, or you are a TART “…
i was born into a cult.
Cole, get out of it when you can. Once you are older you can leave.
Blast from the culty past.
😯
Let women wear pants. Problem solved. Jesus Christ, you poor ladies.
Sister missionaries can wear pants now.
Sisters can only wear pants in those areas of the world afflicted with Zika virus or other dangerous mosquito-spread diseases, only during the rainy seasons, and cannot wear them at Church, at the Temple, or indoors.
But yes, if the whole "Sisters _must_ wear skirts" thing went away for everyone it would benefit everyone as well. The whole suit thing for the Elders is also starting to become seen less as professional attire and more as anachronistic. Letting the young people wear calm, business casual clothing would go a long way towards helping everyone.
Missionaries wearing suits in tropical countries = rashes, body odor, and perhaps skin diseases including eczema. White shirt and coat over 'sarong' in Pacific Islands = anachronistic. It is the LDS church imposing its culture over others.
freeurmind2 I am one of the few ladies who wear pants to church in my ward. I do get some dirty looks but I don't care.
wut -_-
That girls was hot.
hahaha this was top lvl cringe.
Control the womenfolk.
This makes me want to vomit!
WHAT THE HELL DID I JUST WATCH!!! hahahahahaha this is total bullshit. Poor women!
Who came up with this shit?
This is disgusting. Reminds me of the Handmaid's Tale.
What a terrible video! I finished my mission in 1993, thankfully was not subjected to this..what a sad waste of church resources. I don't think most people.can back into a 2 door car the.way the video shows. And shame on that mission pres for banning sisters from the front row. Teach true safety, body mechanics, not things designed due to sexual perversion which is what this is < ie the part on how to bend> . Those studying the vhirch will benefit from kind Christlike people..not people who have been given anxiety about how they sit or place their hands..Please do better church! Remember, Christ looks at the inner person, not the way outlined here. Sisters are there TO SERVE, they are not in a weird beauty pagent.
what a joke
*SNIFFF* *Gag* Ah- the smell of sexism.
