Actually not to sound like a total nerd and you probably know this, that's not her name but it means pretty much "gross old woman" or "old hag" I think it might also be a type of witch I'm not sure though
4:17 - Now about Snatcher. He is a fantastic villain, all in design, personality, arc and that deliciously wicked voice performance by Kingsley, and he is from my PERSONAL FAVOURITE film from Laika. I actually think it is a lovely and stellar film to me. I even got its novelisation and it did got more in depth with both Winnie and Eggs. I even made an audiobook about it on my channel.
Not to mention he is absolutely hilarious! Every time he’s on screen, he steals the scene but he’s still an immediate threat to our heroes and never seen as a bumbling buffoon.
Other Mother probably left an even bigger impact on 14 year old me than if I had seen Coraline after its theatrical run because I saw the film in 3D and was not really experienced with horror at the time, that entire climax left me scared of the door to my house's attic for years.

@@leebulger7112exactly Snatcher wanted to fit in because he was in the lower class and that’s why the films message is so great because it teaches how far people will go to hurt themselves to fit in
I am so happy to see you finally did a Laika villain ranking list! Though in my opinion I would have put Snatcher in first place, he’s honestly such an amazing villain to me with how entertaining yet threatening he can be, plus his henchmen are a ton of fun as well!
Honestly, I see a similarity between Aggie and Alessa from the Silent Hill movie. Both were just little girls who had no control of the very thing that made everyone but their mother hate them.
My friend who used to work for a movie theater, told me once that the twin sisters in Kubo used to make kids cry in the theater whenever they showed up.
What a great ranking! I didn’t think you would do Laika at all! They finally have a new movie coming out next year called wildwood! I absolutely can’t wait!
He’s a great villain and I get why they had him die like that because the movie’s message teaches its best to be who you are because people like Snatcher go far enough to hurt themselves to fit in. However his death was bloody disturbing especially for a kids movie, surely they could’ve gone with a different fate
Laika is such a treasure trove for villains. Archibald Snatcher is my favorite, but the Other Mother is probably the best realized. I'm not sure if I would have ranked the Moon King so high, despite his cruelty and a great performance by Ralph Fiennes. I look forward to whatever Laika has in store next.
5:50 The reveal that Agatha Prenderghast was a little girl at the time of her death is so harrowing. Up until that point of the movie, you only ever see or hear about her in the context of the curse and of the town's tacky commodification of her murder. She was only ever just "the witch that was executed here one" to the modern townspeople. She appears as a giant cloud version of a classic witch and Norman assumes that the book he was supposed to read her was incorrect because it was a children's book. But then the reveal automatically turns everything around and the tone of the movie get significantly darker. She transforms from a faceless force of evil to a horribly tragic character who desperately needs someone to see for for what she truly is: a scared little girl. Norman realizing that they are two sides of the same coin and talking to her on her level was the only thing that could have ever stopped the curse for good. The scene in front of her burial tree never fails to bring a tear to my eye.
My top three favorite villians are 1. Kubos Aunts, 2. The other mom and Agatha. Those three make Laika films scary to the point of crossing into Horror, plus thier costumes are cool.
Jambareeqi, I completely agree about what you said with Other Mother and the Coraline movie, I had nightmares of it when I first watched it as a kid and I still don't plan to watch it now as an adult.
Honestly this video makes me want to see those movies of Paranorman, Frankenweenie, Coraline, and Kubo again as it has been years since I've seen them.
I think it would be cool to see villain lists featuring villains created by Butch Hartman, villains created by Genndy Tartakovsky, villains created by Craig McCracken, and villains created by Jorge R. Gutierrez.
The Beldam surely has a disturbing agenda. Plus, as a 15 going on 16 year old at the time seeing Coraline in the cinema for the first time, seeing Wybie with a forced stitched smile was disturbing and makes me shudder. Not to mention that Archibald Snatcher’s face covered in Leeches in CG was creepy to watch. But less disturbing things aside, I know former USW student, Sean Gregory, who also worked at Aardman, got to animate Kubo crying over the death of his parents. I mean holy cow, he executed the emotion well.
