Hi Jamie. Thanks for this video. I've been watching an American channel on The Joy of Vinyl Records and I was aware that vinyl sales had increased significantly during the past two years, but never realised that it was 213%; Impressive. I've been collecting vinyl since I was a teenager... Sixty-odd years ago. I found a Record Shop in Chichester. It's a tiny shop, stuck behind an Antiques shop, but it's full of Records and CD's and I've picked up some amazing bargains there; some of them are LPs I couldn't afford when I was younger, but have hankered after for many years. I never abandoned Vinyl - nor Musicassettes - when most of my friends dropped them in favour of CD. I never fell for the Phillips/Sony "Perfect Sound Forever" hype, back in the 1980s. It always sounded harsh and Sterile to my ears. People forget - if they ever understood it - that the World is Analogue, not Digital. It's what our Ears are tuned to. I've taken the Analogue theme to the extremes, with a Full Valve Hi-Fi System. You don't need 100 Watts of Power, to enjoy music. My Valve Amp kicks out a mere 21 Watts and can pin you against the wall. I have Two Demo tracks I play people, when they want to hear what it can do. The 'Stones "Paint It Black" and John Williams - Sky 3 - version of Bach's 'Toccata'. My musical tastes are wide ranging, from Early and Mediaeval, through Baroque; Folk; Jazz and Rock'n'Roll. I'v just Subscribed, so hope to see more from you in future. Cheers. Russ. Havant, Hants.
@@russbetts1467 thank you! I love hearing about how passionate people are for the vinyl format especially for so long. The 213% stat is anecdotal from our interviewee but depending on what you’re measuring should check out! Two of my co-creators are from Chichester!
Streaming? What's that? I have NEVER streamed any music. I started buying CDs in 1986, SACDs in 1999 and Blu Ray audio discs in 2013. They are my biggest pleasure. Most people do not know what a SACD mastered from the original máster tapes can sound like in a proper hifi system in a carefully treated listening room.
Right on (lovely editing: well done!) However the price of a record relative to a number of streams isn’t compelling. Let’s see what happens. One thing is that most everybody I know will allow recorded music into their life in one form or another.
I'm glad you enjoyed! Streaming does make music more accessible than and thats really cool. We all wish new records weren't as expensive as they are, but second hand CDs, and even just local MP3 files build a better relationship with your music collection then streaming in my opinion. If vinyl prices itself out of the market, people who got onboard will still find new ways to enjoy music and hopefully wont default to streaming entirely.
When you give up the option of being able to purchase music in physical form, you give up the option to choose what you want to hear, eventually. And that’s something that the industry, as well as those in the larger power picture, would give anything to have over you.
You're showing your age, Sonny. ;-) I bet you've never heard a Properly Mastered Vinyl Record played on a decent Hi-Fi system. You wouldn't think CD was King, if you had.
CDs are amazing of course, but the industry need to show them some proper love. Decent packaging and more available new and fun hardware to play them back on. CD players have become some of the most boring objects with the modern Denon and Cambridge systems. Vinyl records from some artists/ labels get the better treatment in presentation, I just wish they could invest in some better quality control at pressing plants for the prices they charge!
Things go out of style become valueless then have a renaissance then have a crazy price then everyone but collectors get over it and move on. Really for anything at all.
With a lot of trends I do agree, however records have persisted for 100 years and there’s still an interesting consideration in the idea of physical media. Currently there’s an element of fad/ craze around vinyl but I don’t see a major drop happening because of the level of investment. Hi-Fi collectors will always exist and currently the format artists are showing the most love is vinyl
"Invested in my own record player" ???? A piece of crap, thats what it is, why are you promoting this? For the money of this piece of shit you get a lot better players on the used market. Bad information, thumbs down.
I assume you are talking of the young lady student who has bought a record player to play Vinyl on, in the comfort of her - Probably Shared - Student Accommodation. Like most of the people of my age - Baby Boomer - I started off with a Dansette Record Player and it served me well for about 15 years. Unlike the Dansette, the young lady's player also includes a Radio and probably also Bluetooth and USB socket. It's 'Horses for Courses' and clearly suits her needs, so you are hardly in a position to be so Judgemental about her choice. The problem of buying stuff off of the Internet, is you can never be sure what you're going to get for your money; a fact I know from personal experience. I've lost count of the stuff I've had to return; just during 2024.
As a sometime industry veteran, I hereby certify that this film hits the right note!

Yes. Even when I’m able to stream something for free, I’d much prefer a physical copy of something I really like.
Streaming isn’t free

Yeah, streaming-only scares me too. Local mp3 had (and has) a small barrier to entry for us old-timers: love 'em now!
Vinyl music fossicking in a store is one of those 'BeachCombing' experiences we get so few of these days.
Great video! I love the editing, the pace, and the message.

The younger generations do not know on how music can sound like.
Wrong, heard of Spotify?
Vinyl is KING 👑,AMEN ❤
CD is KING 👑 AMEN ❤️

People just want to feel and mostly SEE the music, so vinyl records and tapes are back, that all. 😊
The PRICES vs QUALITY are going to KILL this industry AGAIN .....noone wants to pay 30 dollars plus for crap sound...hail CD at half the price !!

All music whatever your choices to play on is fine , I have all and they’re all ok

you are just sad you got rid of your music collection
