  • This short documentary takes a poignant look at cultural misunderstanding and its toll on a family's grief. When filmmaker Gerald Auger lost his father, the local Anglican priest refused to allow the family to bury their father in the traditional Cree way - with the drum and the smudge - because he was buried on Anglican church property. Gerald sets out to resolve his hurt and anger and his path leads him to some unexpected places.

    Dear Gerald, this story about your dad really touched me. It's just unbelievable these kind of injustices are still happening today. As you said, no one has the right to hurt another human being. And no one has the right either to judge or disrespect ways just because they're different and they don't understand. So keep spreading awareness 'cause this must come to an end! Your ancestors, father, family and relatives must be so proud of you. Even we, non-First Nations people are. Know that many of us are starting to understand the true history behind the lies and are able to see the beauty and value in the traditional ways of your people. I truly believe they must be defended, treasured and respected by all. Mitákuye Oyás'in, we're all connected. Lots of love and support from your true white sister from Belgium ❤

    Beautiful Gerald. I don't know how I got so lucky to see this this morning it just came up but I'm very pleased to see that you did exactly what you did. No one has the right to deny you what you want to do for your own family. There's been enough denial of that as it is thus far and after yesterday which I use as a reflector of device by which to respect and dignify all the tribes that had been tormented by religion and the control that has gone on and still goes on I learned the Lakota lullabye and sang that all day.
    You did the most beautiful thing here and the right thing.
    ❤❤❤

      I gave the church the benefit of the doubt in the beginning, out of resoect. When they didn't honor their word, I went ahead with the ceremony.

    Gerald, your father knew and knows the contents of your heart. No parent could be prouder of his son. He is your Na Aumakua always. You did your kuleana and sacred kahea as best you could under circumstances beyond your control. It is good to let go of anger as you have done and to walk the good red road in truth as you do with aware loving kindness . You are awakening the world. We are grateful.

    I love native americans ❤. They are spiritual people and religion is not the real Creator...i have 2 native american friends, they are very nice, easy going, kind and connected to mother nature and Spirit 😊❤ you are such a gorgeous and sweet native man and so sry how you, your dad and family have been disrespected treated so badly. It's not right and Priest's religious laws are not the way of the True Creator...i'm white and i won't go near churches and religion of man.

    A lot of Native cultural values actually have a lot of Biblical values and parrelism. (This comment is not a comment that supports that religion) In a lot of ways; the white, black, and yellow man can learn a lot more about the creator through indigenous ways and spirituality. A lot of Evangelicals pride themselves in head knowledge but lack love and the spirituality that the Cre4tor wants them to have.....

    • @therealgeraldauger
      @therealgeraldauger  2 місяці тому +1

    Lamento a perda de seu pai, na verdade nenhuma igreja representa verdadeiramente Deus, Deus é maior do que tudo o que o homem julga conhecer, maior que qualquer regra , filosofia ou regras de homens , politicas teológicas, o homem nunca é dono da verdade, a verdade é Cristo, filho do Deus vivo, tudo o resto ou seja qualquer igreja só serve para controlar os homens, é tudo uma questão de controle das massas, e note-se de como as igrejas foram formadas e o porquê. Especialmente as católicas , romanas , apostólicas, greco romanas, anglicanas, ortodoxas, e por aí diante, é só ler as historias da sua formação e saber o quanto servem os seus próprios interesses . Deus existe dentro de nós e não é nenhuma igreja que o põe lá. Somos nós mesmos acreditando num Deus que existe em nós apenas porque assim acreditamos e o aceitamos na nossa vida e é a nossa fé que nos conduz não igreja alguma. Deus existe em nós, nos animais no vento no mar na terra . Os homens deturparam as palavras dos profetas e fizeram religiões á sua imagem e não á de Deus, e desrespeitaram a Deus com as suas palavras falsas e cheias de iniquidades, fizeram as igrejas á semelhança da sua própria ganancia e gosto de poder desmesurado. As igrejas são uma corrente de aço que tenta agrilhoar os homens, subjugando-os com as suas regras e leis eclesiásticas, essas normas e leis são das igrejas não de Deus! Lamento que em pleno sec. XXI ainda existem pessoas mesquinhas que se escondam por detrás dos hábitos da igrejas , essas mesmas igrejas que mataram os seus profetas, santos e mártires!!! Sinto muito por vocês, e desejo-lhes a paz que tanto precisam, Deus vos proteja.
