Living in Canada I only ever met one other person (an Irish guy) who had ever heard of Brian. I have been digging his music from the first time I heard Pinball on the radio. To me his music is top notch, I love it. Had all his albums. Such a great talent that deserved much more commercial success in North America.
I'm from Sweden, I heard Pinball and Monkey on the Swdish top chart when I was 11 and loved it so I bought the white album! His voice is magic. 19k views thats strange.
I’ve admired Brian’s music ever since his Pinball days in the mid 70’s. In fact, back when I was the Music Director at a college radio station, I made sure that his music was prominently featured on our airwaves. This was in Dubuque, Iowa, in 1974. Good stuff!
Waited forever and a day for this video and finally found it. My dad raised me playing this on holidays through his walkman and mp3 player (i'm 30, of its time in mid nighties!) Great memories and very lucky to have the music bringing up I had.
Lyrics (95% certainty): I met a man with a shining face and he said, "Dear boy, I'll get you in anyplace!"/I'll show you fun (whoopie!) and the hot-cha-cha/And how to get a little more out of the cookie jar/I met a girl with a jolly grin/She said, "Please don't stand outside looking in!"/Come on and play with me/Just let it shine/I can show you yours if you can show me mine/But you got to enjoy it/Enjoy it/Don't think too much about it or you'll destroy it/He who live on meditation never ever feel elation/Round and round he run and get nowhere/Ever chasing echoes in the air/See the señorita through the window of the casa/Do you think that she's a gasser as you pass her in your motor?/So you quote her Omar Khayyam/But she says, "What you think I am?"/You can keep your moving finger/But she'd like to let it linger/You're a big man now/Shine on/Ni ta l'amour/Can't stand alone/Mucho entendí/Con très bien/Crème oh la-la/Falantasy/Mucha cara de/A statue give to me/And the boogie in the cellar when the lady wants a fella/And you're Nicky in the alley when you did your Rudy Vallée/Then forever buona sera when you yearn for terra firma/So you learn to Loewe and Lerner with her dad around the corner/He's a big man now/Shine on/ (Full disclosure: I have doubts about the line "Can't stand alone") (Edit: thank you so much to @gdav2745 for spotting the Omar Khayyam line!)
Thanks for your efforts with the lyric. I think the line you mention is: "You quote her Omar Khayyam" (as in The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam.) BTW Brian has a new album out and this track is stunning: ua-cam.com/video/o7R4DBpz5j0/v-deo.htmlsi=PtsO8Ulo6hcx_ZqV He's 79 now - amazing voice that has hardly changed over the years.
And the reference to the moving finger comes from verse LXXI . . . The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ, Moves on: nor all your Piety nor Wit Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line, Nor all your Tears wash out a Word of it.
@@gdav2745 thanks so much! Both for introducing me to Omar Khayyam and for illuminating us on what that line was saying. One of your two messages was deleted/removed, so if you get a chance please write back to let me know what I missed. Did the rest of the lines (in particular "can't stand alone," the way he says "alone" sounds odd as if it may be another non-English line) look correct? Thanks again very much for your input, my friend.
@@roachfamily2434 Thanks for your reply. Glad to have been a bit of help. I’ll need to listen hard to some of the other lines to confirm exactly what they say. I can see both my comments so am unsure which one is missing.
Yeah the youtube comments bot is particularly egregious at what it removes nowadays (with the added annoyance that you have to sign out of your account to see that the message was deleted). The comment that wasn't deleted reads, "And the reference to the moving finger comes from verse LXXI..." Using the quote in this comment I was able to figure out you were talking about Omar Khayyam, so you may not even need to repeat the other message if that was what it was about. Thanks for replying and your help again.
In 1974 I bought the single pinball and still have it in my collection now. I played the single to my friend recently, and he managed to buy it on ebay
Because unfortunately it rarely, if ever, is played nowadays on Classic Rock-'n'-roll stations as it was in the mid-1970's when it came out. Many younger people thus never have heard of it.
Anyone have the lyrics. I have been trying to "decipher " for forty years. I realize there is a smitten of French and some onmonopoetica, nevertheless...
he mixes, for what I can tell, many Spanish words with English like "city 'señorita', through the window of the 'casa'", but he also adds Italian in "then forever 'buonasera', you're a big man now, shine on"

Hi, Brian. Can't find your e-mail address!! There's a new posting of Tim Morgan singing a Galileo song gone up yesterday, if it would amuse you to view. I don't think YT would allow me to supply you with the direct link, or my channel name, but if you type in the words 'pearl - d.d' you should find it. My own mail address is on the end of the clip, if you'd care to get back in touch and send me yours. Incidentally, the Beeb were toying with the idea of placing Galileo on Radio 4, a few years back (I'd have had them keep you informed, obviously), but they wanted a couple of tweaks done in the UK and, as I run a home for abandoned dogs, here in Spain, I couldn't provide the time. My video editor keeps my music work alive, though. Hope all is well with you. Lockdown had its compensations - empty Venice canals in the video!!

You're a big man now, shine one
Need your "l'amour", can't stand alone
"Mutcho entenda", it can trey beyond
Cremo lala, falantasy
"Mutcho quiero de esta" you give to me
And the boogie in the cellar
When the lady wants a fella
And you nick in the alley
When you ditch your Rudy Valle
Then, forever "buonasera"
When you infirm the infirmer
So, you learn to low and learner
with the dad around the corner
He's a big man now, shine on
But you gotta enjoy it, enjoy it
Don't think to much about it or you'll destroy it
