Your the first person other then my uncle that uses files out of an old setup to jump start a new tank. I've done that for years. The last two tanks I've setup I've put fish in the same day in a 100% new setup. I even take a 25% water out of the old take for the new one
Thank you. This and your other videos have helped me greatly with my tang tank. Your videos are a great contribution to the hobby! Do you know, or where I can find what tangs can live together and what ones can't?
@MrToony1 A sump is a great way to filtrate an African Cichlid as more filtration is a must. Make sure the 75 id cycled before adding them. When adding them add a few at a time making sure you don't mess with the params of the water. So add 4-5 1 day then monitor the water for a days then repeat. Regarding the sump media, there's a product called filter matrix - Highly recommend it. Bio balls and small sponges will be ok also
@deano386 Even though the bag might say pre washed it's recommended to wash sand thoroughly before adding it to an aquarium. Try adding filter floss to the top tray of your external, it will pick up all the tiny particles floating about. Change the floss on a weekly basis. If you have a spare internal filter just fill that with filter floss and have it running in your tank till the water is crystal clear
Hello Bolly12345 Sorry for my bad english. Iam from the south germany, south bavaria near the bavarian mountains... Today ive seen a lot of your youtube channel. You created your fishtanks verry, verry good. At the moment, i build a furniture for a cichlidtank from the tanganjikasea. 436german liter. For the livingroom. Thank you for your good tips

Thanks for the videos :) I have 1 (Orange) male pseudotropheus lombardoi. It was kinda left to me. It was in a 6 gallon tank. I have now moved him into a 52 gallon tank. Apart from getting more rocks for him what other cichlids would be OK for him to share the tank with? I know he killed all the other fish that used to be with him. I want an all male tank. What do you recon? Cheers again. Oh and nice tat! I have one much like it!
hi im just getting a tank started and im glad i watched this cause i have 1 big pile of rocks in sttead of lots oof piles i was thinking of just going with lobomis with peacocks aswell would flameback get along with them to? and what are the jets you have set up my tank is 5x1x1 ft what would give me the best looking tank in your opinion
@pistolpeck You need to really over filtrate an African Cichlid Tank. The internal filters supplied with those tanks imo don't make the grade. You can either remove the internal filter (giving you more space in the tank) and 1 large lph external or 2 lower lph external filters
I teach sixth grade and we have a 30 gallon African Cichlid tank with six cichlids in it. They are very small and around the same size. I a whisper 60 and whisper 30 hang on filter, two power heads with an undergravel filter, and a wave maker in the tank. I have one fish that is very dominant and has control of 2/3 of the tank. We have been researching as a class on how to stop this behavior and find your videos helpful. My question is, with my set up, can we add more cichlid to the tank?
I'm really struggling with my pH at the moment, I took a samples of my aquarium and it came out 5.0! I've done 3, 50% water changes but the pH keeps dropping back down. I now, adding 8.3 buffer until I get a pH reading of around eight. I don't have anything in my aquarium such as driftwood that could be dropping the pH. I do have Dorset pea gravel but I'm hoping to replace this coral sand, do you think I'm doing the right steps? Thanks
alright man, first time iv used sand, the guy in the pet shop says i did not need to wash it but iv filled the tank(same as yours but the 180ltr) with a plate at the bottom not to push the sand around, any way, theres sand and crap floating and its been like that for 2 days so i did a 50% change but its still the same, what would you do? some one said leave it with the pump off for a few days?? or should i empy the lot and wash the sand? will this wreck my eheim pump? big thank you!
hello im just about to set up my first cichlid tank and I just want your advice on about how many medium sized fish I could keep in a 55 gallon tank? Also do they tend to jump out of the water because the tank doesn't have a hood ?
Hey. I just found a yellow lab that was stuck in between some rocks. She got alot of wounds on her head and body, and i have tried to put her in a quarantine tank. I dont quite know if shes gonna survive, she cant swim and is staying at the bottom, breathing rapidly. Anything you think can help her?
Can you plz do a video on placing the rocks in correct ways i have river rocks and one of my fish like to pick up the substrate and throw it somewhere else that worries because i dont want the rocks to break the glass because of one fish that pick on the gravel/sand
hey, great tank setup, what was the name of the site you got the 3d background from ? i need something like what u have to match my red/black sand setup lol
hi there, what specific recipe do you suggest for a 25g tank? i know its too small, but the economy these days, yeah, but im sure there must be some dwarfs? if there is, what combination, there is no helpful info on the web...
I also I seem to be having trouble keeping my ph up a local fish breeder had told me he uses baking soda. Is that safe to use? What dosage is safe if you can use baking soda?
@solid78121 Not my strong point but it might be down to adding just one fish to established tank with dominant fish, the other fish feel like their territory is under threat. Even if you add compatible fish this can still happen regarding aggression. It might be a case of returning the Acara if it's getting really stressed as it might die. You could try adding rocks etc to create hiding places.
i have given up on ph i cant break the buffer in my city's water.i read about how harmful it can be for your fish if you break the buffer and the ph jumps.water is stuck at about 7.4. stil i read that your better off not messing with a buffer. most fish will tolerate one number up or down from their ideal ph. will a dead coral safely raise the buffer? is there something better i can use?
@JamieT96 Hiya, you'll have no problems with 50 adults with the Fx5. Great filters (best out their IMO) I'm really glad you've been liking the videos buddy. Any how to guide recommendation? Just let me know.
great video!! i have a 72gal bowfront im setting up for cichlids.I want the most colorfull cichlids I can get.and breed some of them to sell at local pet store to help offset the cost of tank maintenance.thanx .
is it ok to mix different african Cichlid's from different lakes? Also I have gravel in my tank, my fish don't seem to mind , they do dig around in it but should I switch to sand (hope not) thank's- Greg
Personally I wouldn't mix them all together as they require a different diet and water params. That's only my advice, what you do with it it totally up to you. :)
Hey man, i have a small as tank it's a jebo r338c, would i be able to set it up to hold 2-3 smaller cichlids? if so what are the most important things that i need to do to make this possible. thanks
Hi, Thanx for all the informative videos. How many fish do you lose due to death from sickness or murder? and how many malawi cichlids may i have in 120litre (30 gallon) tank.
@mouseboy1000 Hi, what you need to do is work out your tanks water capacity then choosing your filter will be easier. For example an African Cichlid tank water capacity needs to be turned over at least 5 times per hour --- so if a tank holds 250ltrs the filter/filters must be able to do at least 2250lph. It's a must to over filtrate an AC tank as they AC's do better in large numbers so you over filtrate to be able to handle the biological load. Hope that explanation helped.
Hello dose and one know if a hailea hf 150, filter 900l/h is and good I'm putting it on a 95l tank will I over filter to much or will it be okay for my cichlids!
Hi, I found your video very helpful, thank you. I have a 280ltr tank with only about 15 mbuna in at the moment, just re-setting it up after a house move. I know I need to re-stock on my fish as I know I don't have enough in there. Can I put some peacocks in with them? Tia x
hey, i have a question can african chichlids stay with red texas chichlids and blood red parrot chichlids? im setting up my 125 gallon for chichlids only
hey man can you suggest me how to increase the pH level in my african cichlids tank. recently i had added some coral crush sand is it ok ..... to increase the pH level
Hey mate, this is going to be part fish part other. I was watching a video, and you mentioned a baby your wife was having. Hows he/she going. going to get them into fish like you? And I love your videos mate, keep making them, Could you possibly make a video about those tile rocks, like sandstone and how to make a rock formations. And stuff about peacocks? cheers man
Hi i have 5 peacocks for a year now no colour change could they all be female?or maybe their not big enough yet they were very young when i got them any idea's thx
as long as there is water movement on the water toplevel, you don't need an airpump, but you can in this case... In case of a planted tank (not a rock afraican cichlid tank), then you don't use airpump, because air makes CO2 diffuse out of water, and you need that... but in case of african rock cichlid tank, you can use airpump... energy consumption of airpump is lower (power of airpump is bigger)
Just sat here staring at the screen then my tank... Fucking deja vu. Then you said juwel rio 240 i was like.. whaaaaa haha. This guide will serve me well ahha.
I have 75 gallon with a large oscar large jag small ghost knife pleco and large jack dempsey and 2 african cichlids i have small gravel with alot of larger river bed stones and some lucky bamboo and live grass.. mine seem fine.. i have noticed that my cic have gotten aggresive they will attack minow feeder fish and try to eat them lol..
@SkullSayWhat11 Hi buddy, a 4ft tank is too small for Venustus I'm afraid 5ft upwards. Remember it's all about the tanks foot print. They will get on with Mbuna.

Hi, Cichlid salts can raise the pH level and add trace elements to your water. Seachem have great products for this
@MrToony1 A sump is a great way to filtrate an African Cichlid as more filtration is a must. Make sure the 75 id cycled before adding them. When adding them add a few at a time making sure you don't mess with the params of the water. So add 4-5 1 day then monitor the water for a days then repeat.

@279howard I would add 1 x 2000lph powerhead, you might not need to add 1 if your tanks flow is ok from the filters output
Hello Bolly12345

Hi there, it's best not to use the really fine sand as small particles will be forever floating around the tank and clog up the filters
@JamieT96 Hi Jamie, the 450 can hold around 50 adult Mbuna depending on your filtration.
What filters you running?
Thanks for the videos :) I have 1 (Orange) male pseudotropheus lombardoi. It was kinda left to me. It was in a 6 gallon tank. I have now moved him into a 52 gallon tank. @rexlinkfish You don't need to take the sand out to rescape. Just push the rocks deep down in to the sand bed. Syphon the sand out with a hose :)
@ewilddog You're better using a power head or a wave maker

is it true that if u over crowd the african cichlid tank then it can solve the aggretion issue?thanks
@stonemonkeyz80 Hi, I've always used a scrubbing brush with hot water and good old fashion elbow grease. Jet washing is any option.
alright man, first time iv used sand, the guy in the pet shop says i did not need to wash it but iv filled the tank(same as yours but the 180ltr) with a plate at the bottom not to push the sand around, any way, theres sand and crap floating and its been like that for 2 days so i did a 50% change but its still the same, what would you do? some one said leave it with the pump off for a few days?? or should i empy the lot and wash the sand? will this wreck my eheim pump? big thank you!

@unitedben14 I would use Kiln dry sand or sand from your local pet store. You can use Tetra safe start to start the process of bacterial growth

Do you use crushed coral for a natural buffer
hey man can you suggest me how to increase the pH level in my african cichlids fish tank.......please suggest me what i can get for the market

@deano386 How did it work out deano?
hi my tank is 2.5 foot long and 1.5 deep what African cichlid could i use hope to hear back thanks
@ewilddog That's true but you must over filtrate
@opdizzle559 You can put what ever substrate you want in, but I wad just advising that gravel is not the best choice as they like to sift and dig.
Hi i have 5 peacocks for a year now no colour change could they all be female?or maybe their not big enough yet they were very young when i got them any idea's thx
I've got the juwel Rio 180 what number if Mbuna would be OK? I have the juwel filter and a fluval 306
Did you make the background?
What was the website you got your background
What store sells sand stone
or how do i get some sand stone
i really like your background looks so natural
I hate being stuck on the damn imperial system! I gotta go online and convert liters to gallons every time!

Hi, i have a beta and i was wondering what is a cichlid???
im also wondering about filters for my tank
how many demasoni and yellows could you keep in a 200l tank?
how many fish do you have in the 240?
@azzapoodc You should be fine - it's always best to over filtrate. Just watch out if the flow from the outlet is to high.
@killa2000dec Who are you directing that comment towards?
very informative video mate !
My personal answer would be no as they have differing behaviour/ differing water conditions and differing dietary requirements :)

@aRamdondFish1 Hi There, I don't recommend keeping Dwarf Mbuna but you'll be fine with the likes of Tangyanikan Shell Dwellers.
@SkullSayWhat11 Hi buddy, a 4ft tank is too small for Venustus I'm afraid 5ft upwards. Remember it's all about the tanks foot print. They will get on with Mbuna.
Hi Mark, i just want to ask you how to count filtration system until i can say "okay i over-filtrated my tank"? my tank is gonna be around 700L , how high the filter's power should get? Thank you, your videos helped me a lot for my new project tank :)
