So obscure, I love it. 😄 I feel like this is one of those features that only exists because Salesforce had it and MS had to check a box to say they had it too; I can see where the functionality would be useful but it is so inelegantly implemented lol.
This was a feature since CRM v1.0... and it is much less horrible to setup then it once was. It was almost unusable, and constantly failed. I was because Outlook really wasn't meant as a platform for extensions.
Thank you for this usefull video. I'm trying to install the Dynamics 365 App for Outlook in a Dataverse environment but i'm getting error. Should I have Dynamics 365 Apps on this environment?
Thank you for this synthetic tutorial. Do you have any idea of dataverse volume consumption increasing it might result in? Or it’s just that dataverse hosts the links from outlook?
Not so much for the integration components themselves, but for data, I have seen where if an organization tracks a lot of email communication, it will consume Dataverse resources. This used to be worse when it consumed database capacity but I believe a lot has been offloaded (automatically) to other storage types in Dataverse, so less of an impact (but still a consideration).
Hello Nick, thank you for your video, but I have a dout about this scenario, because for me in order to used the Dynamics 365 for Outlook App is necessary have a dynamics 365 license, being not permited to used with power apps license, may you have to confirm this scenario?
Echoing the sentiments about how great it is that you visited this type of feature integration. Many thanks. If possible, can you delve into aadusers and teams and security for this type of example. For example, restricting the Fundraiser records visible that are only for that user / team. As a manager, they may get communications that they need to add to one of their team’s fundraiser records.
Hi, I have tried by replying through Outlook email chain but it's not reflecting in App. But when i reply through apps then it captured in outlook email chain.. Why it's happening?
Great video. I have followed all the steps successfully up until the last. When I open the Dynamics 365 app in Outlook, I get the error "We're sorry. You are not part of this organization. Please contact your administrator." I am perplexed because I'm a sys admin, have the correct security roles, have been able to send and receive emails etc. I added the app to a Sandbox environment. Could that be the reason why?
Hi, great information! How would we set this up for starting directly within our model-driven App. For example: Ticket is logged via Pages and record is assigned to consultant, then in timeline the consultant can start mailing the logger of the ticket
Without using Outlook, you can configure Dataverse to link with Exchange online so creating email records will be sent out. learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/connect-exchange-online
I followed the video but when I click on dynamics app in outlook. I can't set the regarding field and see this error message. Track and Set Regarding are currently disabled, but you can continue to view and edit Dynamics 365 data. Please contact your admin to enable all features.
Hmm... in Outlook, click on the Dynamics 365 app, then select the three dots (...) there is an option called "Outlook Checker" that might help point you in the right direction. learn.microsoft.com/dynamics365/outlook-app/diagnostic-checker
I tried to connect my mail box, but it is still showing Not run. I don't have dynamics 365. I also noticed that Office Apps Deployment is Notinstalled. Do i need to install something else, if so What and how? thanks
Yes, sorry, I was referring to ALM processes of doing configuration, etc. on a developer environment (like adding your custom tables to the Dynamics 365 for Outlook app) and then sending those customizations as a managed solution to your test and production environments. There is a whole section on MS Learn about ALM in the Power Platform. I hope that helps! learn.microsoft.com/power-platform/alm/
@@powerplatformboost Also thanks for the link, its very useful! Working on a Contract Management App for my team and this feature will be really helpful for them in tracking their emails and such.
Are you sure (link to docs maybe?) that you don't need a (Dynamics) license to use this? I knew it could be done, but that does not mean you are allowed to...
100% sure. This has been confirmed with MS. You do need Power Apps licenses (premium) and this counts as “an app” for Power Apps “per app” learn.microsoft.com/dynamics365/outlook-app/overview. See the line “and model-driven Power Apps that run on Microsoft Dataverse.”
This is GOLD 🥇. Thank you
thank you! 👌 This is a master class, precise and valuable.

This is fantastic - thank you Nick so much for this invaluable video.
Thank you very much just what I needed.

If you are not using Dynamics 365, you'll need Power Apps license. You don't need a Dynamics 365 license for this feature.

Super helpful. I have a question though. I would like to be able to deactivate a Contact directly from the D365 App for Outlook. Is that possible?

I have tried by replying through Outlook email chain but it's not reflecting in App.

Would subsequent emails (i.e. replies to the tracked email) get tracked automatically?
Yes, if email tracking is configured. learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/settings-email-tracking

The process takes a loooooong time, unfortunately. I have seen it take an hour or more.
You mention "You know the drill" at 9:46ish. Can you elaborate what you're talking about? I'm still learning, so it would be helpful to know

All emails are copied to Activity table? If yes that mean there is need to create a provision for all this emails.
Yes, content of emails is stored in the Email Activity table in Dataverse, and capacity is taken from file allocation, not database allocation.
Fantastic! Thank you!
Thanks Nick - Thats a great explanation of an often overlooked and extremely useful feature.

Does this work for custom tables? Or does it have to be one of the Ms built-ins?
this works for custom tables as well, but they need to be added to the Outlook MDA
