Archeology brush needs to be in artist room, too! And name... Vincent Van Pilage.
Vincent Van Went.
Because he can't find it in himself to keep going anymore?
Van Gohn (gone) as in mind gone
Hum Gogh
Vincent Van Vindicator
I forgot about acheology brush! Birll! I hope Gem sees your comment
Labcoat Gem with the glasses looks soooo adorable I cannot
Gem is very scary how dare you disrespect her >:I (Joking)
@@OwlReid Adorable things can be terrifying! Moopsies from _Star Trek,_ The Snails from _Wild Life..._
fats
@@GSBarlev hah yeah!
I know! It looks so good on her avatar!
villager is so relatable. i too experience burnout when confronted with existential horrors beyond my comprehension
Imgaine not having burn out when facing existential horrors beyond comprehension
@@Squirtuozz Who DOESN'T experience burnout when confronted with existential horrors beyond their comprehension?
I experience existential horrors beyond my comprehension on a regular basis. The burnout is so real.
I love how Gem is a scientist in Minecraft, a base builder game, and a base builder in subnautica, a scientist game
coming back to hermitcraft from wild life is like watching an anime beach episode where it's so cozy and much needed 😭❤
As much as I love the Life Series it’s always nice to have some calm GeminiTay Hermitcraft❤😅
calm is… is a strong word…
compared to wild life I’d say it’s pretty calm lol
@@Tildagchicken Hermitcraft has many moments where the players are able to control if they want calm or chaos. Chaos is prevalent, but in the life series it's basically a slide into chaos, some series faster than others.
I'll take chill hermitcraft over the competitive chaos of wildlife any day!
Yes!
There is the distinct possibility thar Gem's sheep search was made more difficult by Pearl's sheep massacre. (she killed over 500 sheep during a stream)
why pearl kill sheep? :(
@kenanjones3481 she needed sheep heads for zed's show
Gem: "I love a good labcoat. Calms me down"
Zed: ::knocks over furniture:: _"Look at you!_ The sight of you enveloped in that lab coat! To the very marrow it thrills me!"
Gem: "What the heck are you going on about?"
Zed: ::takes Gem's hand:: "That coat is a pledge! A symbol that you are a friend to science!"
I can see this happening in a cartoony, sitcom-like version of HermitCraft. Where everyone’s personalities are amplified and overdramatic
@@professorp1You say that like Zedaph isn't a bit like that already :D
@@TheKazragore A bit? XD
Is this a Steins;Gate reference?
@@nameunknown5106 Yes!!!
LOL THE WAY ZED SAYS “items, they’re flying!!”
he’s so excited 😭
Name suggestion for the pillager: Archibald... Doesn't need any alliterations or description... He's simply Archibald.
I second this name
I third this name
wasnt that the name of one of her villagers in her 1.16 hardcore series
He looks like an Archibald! Or a Bert.
I fourth this name
goya might be another good inspiration for your painter, his series of "black paintings" are all pretty grim, and were originally painted on the walls of his house and he never told anyone about them, we only found them after he died
If it’s Goya, it has to be good.
+
I love it
OMG YES!!! some of the punny ones are great but this has gotta be the best idea
Goya does sort of fit with the horror theme Gem has been going for.
You should've sheared the sheep after it's encounter with the sea monster, saying that the shock was so great it made the poor animal bald. :D
To help with the shorelines, you could create little tidepools? Those would be cool to populate with little decorations using armor stands or mini blocks.
The tipped arrow in the flower pot is such a genius detail that I've never seen before and I absolutely love it!
Also I think Bart could be a good name for the mad painter as a nice little nod to Subnautica
love how the artists' lodge is beginning, and the idea that having gone crazy looking into the water, seeing visions of monsters and the like has disrupted their ability to paint anything more than a few strokes is really intriguing!! maybe the make their own paints, and after having stared in the water, have started making them differently... in a way that cannot be seen by the sane.
i feel like Claurence is a perfect name for the frenzied artist
When it comes to Zed's game, it really helps to have space behind the pressure plates from where you're looking so you can see where you're walking when stepping on the plates. By looking backwards and having that space in front instead of behind, Gem was able to react quickly, allowing her to press the plate as the items were in the air.
Zed was right, Gem is smart!
Zed: “I’m not smart”
Also Zed: “ha😏 magma. Magma *cream* to be exact 😌”
This is closer to "pedantry" than "smarts" - I'd say designing the combrewter itself definitely does count as "smarts" though, so Zed's being humble for sure!
23:00 "who maybe used to paint all of these amazing paintings and now just can't paint anything"
cool i'm canon in hermitcraft...
Always excited for a new Hermitcraft episode
I love the artist’s house interior! It’s perfectly messy, and manages a balance between cozy and near-frantic. The armor stand work is really cool, and I especially like all of the banners to simulate hanging canvas!
"This is an extremely messy artist studio."
Looks clean to me. Haha.
Artist names sugestions:
- Arthur the Artist (kinda generic i know, maybe no one in the village knows his real name so they just made up a generic artsiy name for him)
- Vincent (in honor of Vincent Van Gogh, a famouse artist known for his mental instability)
- Pablo Pickle-Saw (in honor of both the pickles Gem is forced to sell, and Pablo Picasso, a famouse artist who's style really reminds me of the early minecraft paintings, and also lived roughly in the time period Drege is set at)
Archibald. Check the other comment
22:45
Gem: What can I use as a paint brush?
Brush that was added back in 1.20: Does she not know of my existence?
*@GeminiTay*
22:55 The pilager is using his "own" (persons) color, to put on the canvas, this work has over the years, drained his own color & now there is no color left for the canvas, there is only colors in his imagination, but the canvas remains white, regardless of how much he tries to paint to express his imagination... Now there is only white.
(You mean something like that?), (you could make banners with increasingly light gray "colors", on a white background, to symbolize this transformation over time) :)
It would be really cool if you could make a custom painting of the sea monster looking scary so that it kind of gives the effect that after the painter looked at the sea monster, he became paranoid and lost the ability to paint because all he can see is the monster
Oh I love the artist studio!!!! I am imagining he prepped his canvas, stretching it and then gessoing it then leaving it out to dry, but then when it came time to paint on it, he was stuck, and so he made another and then another!!!!!
Except it's priming, not gesso, as gesso would crack. Maybe he gessoed a wall to paint a mural. And then went crazy priming all the canvasses.
@Dreymasmith looked up the difference between gessoing and priming! (Thought they were the same thing) thanks for the rabbit hole plunge! :)
@@sergeantsarcasm7 you're welcome. It's a difference in materials. Gesso has chalk in it so is brittle, priming is a layer of rabbit glue and then an inert and flexible white paint, traditionally lead white. If you are painting on board, gesso also the go to. Enjoy the rabbit hole, it's fun down here!
@@Dreymasmith that's so cool! I've mainly used acrylic based primers to prep canvas for oil painting, but i haven't looked much into it before! The more you know 🌈
How about naming the pillager "Vincent", cuz the lore being a sad painter kinda is reminding me of "Vincent Van Gogh", and his sadistic, emotional art style... Its just a thought...
yes Vincent would be a nice homage
He could also be called Vincent because he doesnt have ears
Ye especially bc he only signed his work Vincent after arguing with his dad. The pillager is similar by how he’s sort of an outsider to the rest of society. They both have their troubles with other people
🌻
How is his style sadistic?
I love the name Vincent. After Vincent Van Gogh. His lore could be that his parents or whatever were artist and named him after Vincent but because of the monster and the strange stuff happening in the village he went nuts and became a pillager.
I'M FINALLY CAUGHT UP! New fan of under a month, finally watched all your Hermitcraft seasons so I wouldn't feel new anymore! Now I get to experience it as it comes out!
I've been watching since like halfway through season 9, have not watched seasons 1-8, and am a month behind in season 10. I literally have watched an episode every day for the past year.
@kze24 holy cow
i loved the "if you give a mouse a cookie" vibes of 14:37
Thank you Gemini. I’ve been having a few tough days recently and this silly little video about seamingly mundane chores, but still peaceful and calming and funny has helped me.
Thinking about the pillager painter house… and the fact that all the canvasses are empty… it really just tells the story all of us creatives face whenever we get burnt out/deal with art block/face some other issue hindering us from creating.
The build isn’t supposed to be that deep, but I really felt it. The idea that it’s messy, that you are trying to create, but nothing is coming to you.
16:53 literally me when I have to talk to anyone
I was having some serious Gem Hermitcraft silliness withdrawals… my day has certainly improved with this wonderful new addition :D
I would discribe the way zed and gem interact as very gentle and caring😅
Something like Simon or Garfunkle would be a good name for the pillager! Loved the segment with Zed, that game looks very fun!
the canvas and easel is so adorable!!
Geeeeemmm, you could add a tube wave with people surfing on it and getting picked up by the Monster’s tentacles around the wider area of the river (like a bit behind the fortress) !!
Omg I love it!
How about Mary for the mad artist? Reference to the term “Mary Sue” a term used for a character (often in fan-fics) which means a character known for being perfect, but the reader finds no evidence to that. The artist used to have a lot of personality, but over time as they saw the horrors in the village and started losing hope of life ever getting better, their personality drained away with their emotions.
Lore for the paranoid artist. They were gifted an cursed nautilus shell sending them into a mad frenzy
Gustavo sounds like a good name for that sort of artist :)
I always want to build in Minecraft after seeing a hermit craft video in my feed
YEAH GEM VID
congrats First Place for a tie
You would name the pillager smthn like dob ross. The alter ego of bob ross since bob was known for his positivity while making art
"God they're so weird" I love how you can basically say that about any hermit and no context needed, everyone would agree!
14:44 would have been ABSOLUTELY hilarious if the beach was filled with player heads! Love the video Gem!! :D
Gem, when adding the banners hanging on the beam, you could add carpet on top to make it seem like its actually hanging
If you want more inspiration for a messy painter's loft, Scar made one in the caboose with the baloons and such. Might help if you're unsatisfied!
Everyone together now:
GEEEEEEMMM!!!
An artist who went a little mad after breathing in too much paint fumes? Vincent. Name him Vincent
when gem uploads it is always a good day
REAL
This has been an amazing episode. I love the creative vibe and the use of banners as painters canvases.
If you have barrels or anything with items it'll be neat to have sticks in there to show the artist used to make his own painting frames.
It’s always a great day when Gem posts!
I like the idea of the paintings in his atelier all being blank, it gives the impression that after he went mad he could never paint again because he's seeking to create some sort of magnum opus but nothing he paints comes close to it.
As for a name, I think you should call him Moretti. It feels like an appropriate name for a mad painter.
NEW GEM VIDEO!! got here by coincidence
Maybe call the painter Basil after the painter in The Picture of Dorian Grey or Pickman after the painter in Pickman's Model by H.P. Lovecraft since the base is Lovecraft themed.
I've started playing dredge recently because of you, and I'm loving it! It's so cool seeing the inspirations behind your builds!! :D
This series and the builds have helped me spark inspiration for builds and helped me start playing other games such as the game Dredge.
I really like how Gem says sorry for some reason
I love seeing your perspective to the shenanigans in the server. I agree with the comments naming the artist as Vincent since we've also got the ninja turtles under the cybercity
Gem! you could do a SUPER cool thing with Skizzy with the artist thing... hear me out.
First of all, Skizz has talked extensively on how his previous job was sucking the creativity out of him and making him unhappy etc. Now that he is full time, he can live out the dream (AND his Live/Create tattoo) and gets to create amazing things and content and do what he loves. I feel like he would be a great inspiration for what it would have looked like to be a 'tortured artist'. He'd also make a good bit out of it.
THEN, Skizz also has the Banner's Permit.. so you *could* be his first ever banner commission and get him to create some designs to go up in the 'tortured artist's' house!
Just my thoughts :)
that artist left painting to pursue a even harder feat, to create a new white paint with a hue no one has ever created before.
I love the artist's house interior! For the pillager's name, I really like all the suggestions inspired by Van Goh and have another one to offer: Van Dye
So fun to see you and Zed in science mode at the same time! :D I'm so hyped for his game show! Happy (belated) Bonfire Night! LOL I love that the Reapers are exactly that kind of villain who apologises for inconveniencing someone not actually on their list!! Life series inspiration for endangering sheep, and the first example is a tree growing on them, just like how Cleo almost died in the very first week of 3rd Life!!! And a grand finale with the sea monster!!! :D I love the interior!! The banners are great, and the armour stand easel is so cool! I love all the little details, the arrows as paintbrushes are genius!! I love that the pillager's pale face is part of the story of the artist!
1:14
Awh ‘so sorey’ I love it
12:24
Heh life series recording will definitely help with that
12:40
Most normal hermitcraft interaction tbh
Love your videos so much. Feel free to ignore this random thought, for the trident arena what if you made one wall glass looking out into the ocean with tentacles ominously creeping towards the view, or the view of a giant eye looking at the glass, or random sea creatures stationary swimming like your lighthouse fish along with seaweed and seagrass (maybe faking the depth by not actually connecting it fully to the open water but more having a gradient of blues receding away from the window to look like we are looking at deep under the sea water). Also what if the monster at the bottom of the cave had the stalagmites for teeth to give the pointy vibe. Love everything you are doing so far. So fun!
22:40
Any other artists here that heard "exteremely messy" and thought... this makes my spot look so dang dirty-
though its minecraft- so- like. hard to make it look messier- :3
sheep (to the sea monster): you must be who gem mentioned. a monster here to block my way. i'd like to hurry up and end this, so if you don't have much to say...
THEN OOOOH BRING IT ON! I'M NOT DYING HERE, I'M STILL FIGHTING HERE!
You should name your artist Salvador after Salvador Dali. A lot of his work utilizes the Paranoiac-Critical Method, which he developed. It involves tapping into the unconscious mind to create works of art (in particular, optical illusions). It is a way of exploring the irrational and subconscious aspects of the human psyche. While his method is problematic as it perpetuates harmful stereotypes, its concept is intriguing. I think it fits your overall theme, especially with the way the stripes on the breeze pattern mimic some optical illusion, which Salvador Dali was also famous for.
Wow Gem! The interior is so good!
Oh perfect, a Gem video to eat my breakfast to! Excellent timing, Gem!
I totally forgot the skull had an interior- nice to see that!
I loved this little chore catch-up and love the interior of the artist's house!!!
I absolutely love these little bits and bobs episodes
Ah, just the cozy bits n’ bobs sort of episode I needed!
Yes! Pacified Pillagers are criminally underused! Always nice to see one being put to use. I don't know why, but "Dab" sounds like a depressed artist's name.
If you put that painting of a villager in as like a self portrait it helps the story of their skin being drained of color and shows what the Pillager used to look like
GEM VID YIPPEE THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE QUEEN
Having all of the banners in the artists loft be variations of the same pattern would be a cool way to show them going insane
I hope that at 16:42 the "that will do" is a reference to Babe the sheep hearding pig. I feel like that's a deep cut though.
i feel like Squidward would work perfectly for the name.. the art, the nose, the ocean vibes and the grumpy Noises of the pillager.. it all lines up
if you need to paint a bunch of the canvas, you can always look up patterns online of course, but one of my favorite mini-community events I've done in minecraft, was just gathering with all patterns available, a wide arrange of dye, and just letting everyone combine weird patterns and colors to create a bunch of art. We ended with everything from "abstract sunset" and "mountains" to a splatter mess of colors, and it was a lotta fun, and meant the base decor had a fun story tied in, so maybe hermit art challenge?
didnt realize how much i missed hermitcraft till this video came out
The Pillager should have a name inspired by Vincent Van Gogh, Van Gogh is one of histories most tortured artists (he is famous for giving a girl he liked his own severed ear which he cut off himself) but he managed to turn that pain into beautiful artwork. I saw someone suggest Vincent Van Pillage, but I have some more suggestions;
Vincent
Vinny
Van Gogh
Ravager Gogh
Gogh
One-Ear
You could also use a texture pack to make some of the paintings based off of Vincent Van Gogh’s own paintings but with Minecraft Pillager elements
A cool thing is that when you go to prep a canvas, you put what is essentially white paint (it's not actually. It's more of an adhesive. I just don't remember the name) and you have to let it dry. That could be what the banners are.
Not all paintings require this, just some paint types.
It's called primer i think
It's a bunch of different stuff. Primer is one option, but it can also be acrylic gesso. Primer is more common on plastic though rather than canvases. I decided to go ahead and check my notes for it.
New gem video means it's a great day! Thank you gem :D
Please name him Squidward!! With your ocean theme plus squidward being an aspiring artist and musician, plus the sounds he makes.. hehe just a thought!
love the artist house interior, its so cute and cluttered in such a perfect way!
maybe some archeology brushes for paintbrushes too?
you could also maybe see about borrowing some of scars custom paintings he made or the grian mending book painting?
suggestion for the painter's room: if you want it to look like the artist has gone a bit crazy, having more instances of red in the banners + on the floor (redstone dust) might do well. the deeper hues and splatter effects of redstone give a more menacing vibe, and would imply that he quite literally put blood, sweat and tears into it
Thanks dude you made me and our province proud
the blank banners hanging around the house can be the primer drying out, that does take time so it would make sense if they where to just hang somewhere else while the artist works on another canvas!
zed does the craziest things ever, and gem is just too op to be phased 😂
Gem: i want this to be sandy
Gem: *puts down basalt*
Me: that isnt sand gem you silly!
Also yay im so glad you are deciding to add subnautica vibes to your base. Im excited to see it
The artist could be name named Pillanardo Da Vinci as a little pun
Pillager name idea, Salvador (Salvador Dali). If you go with this an Ocelot would be a great companion in the house!! And you could task Scar with procuring said Ocelot!
Candles also help a lot when making builds messy. More banner art would look awesome as well
A classic Vincent Van Gore is always fun as a reference to Luigi's Mansion
I love the reviews at the beginning of the episodes
Gem is great!
You make it look so easy to be so good
You know what would be really cool is if instead of just making blocks bigger and smaller we could more aggressively transform them. Imagine a block of wool in the shape and size of a banner or being able to make longer planks for a reclaimed-barnwood style.
Lore Idea:
his childhood friend was killed by a monster attack. One of the destroyed houses could be the home of the childhood friend. Stricken with grief, he isolated himself in his house vowing to paint one last tribute to his friend, but everything he made failed to be a proper tribute to his friend. He began to stay up night after night trying to get it just right, this led to him being sleep deprived, and seeing hallucinations from time to time. Years of isolation, trauma, grief, hallucinations, and constant failure drove him insane from trying to paint this one final tribute, but never being able too.
What do you think? It may need some changes but I think it could work for some lore
