Considering that that guy's name was Alan and that chapter had a lot to do with light versus dark and there was a lighthouse and all that I'm pretty sure the whole chapter was a reference to Alan Wake which is pretty cool

Lucas was a radioman during the war, responsible for sending and retrieving signals. But afterward, when he would try to reach out... his signals would go unanswered.
Rosemary, the Angel in Waves. A light left now only in the collective unconscious, solely by those exposed to the drug she inadvertently helped create. Her bright radio wave wings guide those lost in The Rainbow.
Desmond spent his life trying not to fight, but to help. A psychiatrist, he was never meant to pick up any weapon, but against the machinations of his own mind, what else is there left to do as he tumbles further down the rabbit hole?
