They ran from New Orleans and their father burned down majority of the city to find them. they believed Marcel had died, when really he survived and rebuilt everything. so until the Mikaelsons returned to New Orleans, they had still believed Marcel was dead. The witches threatened to hurt Hayley and her baby if Klaus didn’t take back his city since the witches had no control over anything under Marcel’s control. so Elijah convinced him to take everything away from Marcel. klaus wasn’t always bad. his father Mikael treated him like he was worthless and his mother made him weak so klaus couldn’t ever trigger his werewolf curse so that he wouldn’t ever have to deal with the pain of transforming into a werewolf and so no one would find out she had cheated on her husband. He sacrificed his life with his daughter to take the power she had inside of her. Klaus was a great dad, He couldn’t be near hope (his daughter) because it was dangerous for her. He took marcel in because of his own toxic relationship with his father. The only man klaus ever feared was his father. (Marcel also became able to kill an original with his bite later on in the series but only killed his older brother)
